Rockstar is a cannon event at Glendale and is enjoyed by its contestants and audience. To the audience, the show looks put together and exciting, but what the audience isn’t aware of is that this event can be stressful. Mrs. Tracy, the co-sponsor of Flockapella and leader of choir says, “The event can be very stressful because of all of the moving pieces. We do everything from getting the competitors ready and taking care of all of our attendees.”
The student winner for Rockstar this year was Eleanor Gillett (12). “Rockstar was exciting and fun but a little stressful,” Gillet said. “This year especially was nerve-wracking because I am a senior, so it was my last chance to win, but it was still very fun all around.” The reason Gillett chose the songs she did was because “The first song I did for Rockstar my freshman year was a Billy Joel song, and he’s the best artist for my skill set.”
The winner for the teachers was Mrs. Money. “From a teacher’s point of view, I get up in front of a crowd every day and teach, so I didn’t really think too much of it.” Money said. “When I had to go in front of that many people though, I got so anxious. I was shaking before going out on stage because of how nervous I was.” Next year will lose a lot of senior performers, who will be missed, but that only leaves room for new contestants who are eager to compete and win.
