Sunshine Grammar School

The largest integrated steel-making plant in Bangladesh with a 1.4 MTPA capacity amazed the Teachers & Students of Sunshine Grammar School. Padding of the red-hot billets, each 12m long, in motion along with the movement of the Sunshiners was mind-blowing. Despite walking at a moderate and safe distance from the billet, everybody felt the tremendous heat radiated by the industrial process. Experiencing a walk just above the red hot billets was exciting for all of us.

The wonderful story of creating steel rods on an automated machine was simply incredible. In the quality control lab, a demonstration was shown of how the tension of a steel rod was tested to check if it was meeting the highest quality standards. Elastic limit and famous Hooke’s law attracted their attention towards Physics.

Many thanks to Mr. Abu Syed Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of Abul Khair Group, for inviting the Sunshiners to a day long trip and unending hospitality. Thank You.

An imperative point to note was their hospitality. From their engineers to their blue-collar staff, all of them received us with a warm welcome. We were served snacks, a hearty lunch, and again provided with a tiffin alongside a gift pack at the time of departure. After lunch, we restarted the study tour, and the organizers took us to show us their Oxygen Plant. At the site, I came to know from AKS officials that this is particular project was set up by internationally renowned German experts, and the free oxygen provided by them to hospitals saved innumerable lives during the turbulent phase of Covid-19.

From there, we went to visit their water reservoir which has been constructed by closing one side of the hilly area thereby creating a fantastic landscape that included a point on a hilltop from where the faraway sea could be seen. To conclude the study tour, we were taken to a beautiful garden of the AKS steel factory where students and teachers took photographs in the picturesque environment.

Sunshiners were well-disciplined throughout the trip, and their keen interest alongside the excellent organization by AKS management made it a memorable event for all.
