WINNER One-year-old Clara is a therapy dog who goes everywhere with her owner, Rena.

Well-traveled, the pair have been to San Francisco, Cleveland, Boston, Cape Cod, New York City, and Los Angeles – traveling by boat, train, plane, car, and even a wagon! Rena said, “I had a tough time growing up, in addition to a rare autoimmune disease, so waking up to a fuzzy, warm, golden love ball everyday helps me push through the minutiae.”

Her name is unique too! She was named after Clara Schumann, one of the few documented women classical composers.

WINNER Winnie is a blue French bulldog who was born in Missouri and originally named Kaylee O My Heart. She was adopted in Connecticut where her family instantly fell in love with her mellow personality.

She was renamed Winnie because she was adopted during the winter and loves to frolic in the snow! Winnie recently celebrated her first birthday, enjoys playing fetch, giving kisses, long walks, treats, chasing leaves, and making new friends. Winnie’s favorite thing to do though, is taking a nap while being wrapped up in a warm blanket.

“Mary and George were adopted two years ago after both had been turned into the shelter at five months old. For 26 years, we’d always had at least one dog, usually two and three for about a year at one point.

Our dog Harry, who was an only dog (his choice), died unexpectedly a day after surgery. The week after was so sad for us, having to come home to an empty house with no dogs. We knew we’d always get another dog (or two), and a week later saw Mary and George on a shelter website from the N.C. mountains, so we went to meet them and brought them home. They didn’t know each beforehand but are now the best of friends. They were named after the characters in “It’s a Wonderful Life” since it was around Christmas when we got them. Little did we know how much they would end up saving us too - my parents died within nine days of each other a little over a month after getting Mary and George.

They made it easier coming home and being able to take our minds off the major stresses that were happening around us.

Currently Mary wears the Garden Rabbit dog collar and George sports the colorful Rainbones collar. Adopting them has been wonderful!”

Mason “I adopted my first rescue dog, Maddie, in 2009. She had a tough time in her early years and was terrified of people and dogs. But she always loved puppies!

When my husband finally gave in and agreed to adopt a second, we knew it had to be a puppy even though we prefer older dogs. We went out on a Saturday and visited two shelters but none of the puppies had personalities that we thought would mesh with Maddie. A big storm rolled in, so we went home.

But I just couldn’t sit still. I left by myself and went to the last shelter on our list and met THE ONE, but he was already spoken for.đ&#x;˜˘

The staff member asked if I wanted to place an additional hold, just in case the family didn’t come back. I thought that was crazy and said no. There was no way the family wasn’t coming back for this guy! Then on Sunday, I panicked because I should have placed the hold! They were closed, so I sent a message on Facebook and begged! I didn’t hear back. On Tuesday night my phone started ringing and it was a number I didn’t recognize. My whole body filled with excitement because I knew! On Wednesday morning, we drove to the shelter for my husband to meet Mason and to bring that sweet boy home!

Our Small Breed Collection is specially designed for puppies and small breeds that are 10 pounds and under.

Matching Small Breed collars, leads and harnesses are 1/2 inch wide and made with a strong yet lightweight webbing, so small dogs won’t be weighed down.

Up Country’s Martingale style collars are a gentle way to have control over your dog. Perfect for dogs that pull or easily slip out of their collars.

Will not pinch or hurt your dog. Available in all ribbon designs in four sizes (S-XL).

Please note: Martingale collars should never be left on dogs without supervision. They should be fitted so that the collar fits the dog's neck when the small loop is closed.

U P C OUNTRY CARES INITIATIVES

At Up Country we are committed to giving back to the community, both in our backyard and far afield. As a small company with a Made in the USA mantra, it’s natural for us to have a grassroots approach to giving. In addition to Dogs on Deployment, we help fund and raise awareness for various other causes.

With our ongoing partnership with the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, we donate a portion of the website sales from our popular Leader of the Pach and Elephants collars and leashes. This wonderful organization is the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation program in the world.

For over 13 years our Give a Dog a Collar program has given a collar and leash to every dog adopted from the RISPCA. That’s over 1,000 adoptees starting their new lives in style! We feature these heart warming stories on Instagram and Facebook @adoptiontails to shine a light on adoption.
