Cascia Hall exists to build minds and hearts. We combine the raw materials of student potential and enthusiasm, parent love and dedication, and educator knowledge and support to build up young men and women to be leaders… today and in the future. We do this in keeping with the framework of our centuries-old Augustinian tradition of education, which is to develop the student: mind, body, and spirit.

To meet the needs of the new generation of learners, we understand that the school, too, must be built up. With this in mind, the initiative for a new facility at Cascia Hall targeting STEM Education, Athletics & Student Life was conceived.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we put our plans aside, but it’s now time for us to consider again the proposition to broaden and deepen the foundations that will prepare our young people to be productive and engaged members of society. In these pages, you will find details of the project. I hope that what you find here will stir your imagination with the tremendous possibilities this venture will provide for our students and school. Even as education has changed significantly, our mission endures.

As we steadily approach our centennial, we are proud to say that at Cascia Hall our students are at the center of our mission and endeavors.

This is as true now as it was at the founding of the school in 1926.

We are renewing our commitment to pursue academic excellence with a comprehensive campaign to enhance our proven liberal arts education by providing a foundation that will empower our students to thrive in an increasingly complex world.

The opportunities this endeavor creates will continue to empower our students to thrive – mind, body, and spirit.

MIND The new STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) building includes two classrooms, two advanced labs, a state-of-the-art biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) science research lab, a robotics shop and playing field, and space for collaborative learning. These provide the opportunity for our young people to achieve academic success now and in the future.

BODY Renovating the dining hall, expanding and updating the kitchen and its equipment, and enlarging the health and wellness center will allow our students to embrace healthier nutrition practices, learn the social importance of sharing meals, and adopt physical activity as an essential and established routine in their daily lives.

SPIRIT

Creating new common areas, renovating existing ones, and placing the campus ministry suite at the center of student life in the new facility will afford the Cascia community the opportunity to enhance our time spent together as well as our relationship with Almighty God.

THE NEED Cascia Hall is blessed to have talented and highly motivated students, an excellent faculty, and supportive parents. However, we are critically in need of additional space for learning and building community.

The science classrooms our students currently use were built over 40 years ago. These facilities are too antiquated to meet the challenges of presenting and teaching material in the rapidly advancing technological environment that exists today. Our robotics program currently shares space with the dining hall and Upper School biology and chemistry classrooms, necessitating the constant shifting of tables, desks, and chairs to create space for their own activities. Our science research team relies on a converted closet to prepare presentations for competition.

Our current health and wellness areas need expansion to fully serve all our students. Whether a student is male or female, involved in organized sports or not, we need to upgrade our facilities to make physical activity a constructive part of daily life for everyone at Cascia Hall.

Students have improvised their own gathering spaces for building community with one another. They visit in the corridors and meet with counselors and campus ministers in basement offices. As a Catholic Augustinian school, our campus ministers should be at the very heart of student activity.

Dedicating space toward the intellectual, physical, and spiritual development of our students is of critical importance in the life of Cascia Hall.

OUR RESPONSE FIRST FLOOR & BASEMENT HIGHLIGHTS

Campus Ministry Suite Relocating these offices from the basement of the Upper School academic building to the center of student life will provide enhanced visibility of and access to this ministry for our students.

Renovated Upper School Gym Lobby Students will have a welcoming student commons area outside the Upper School gymnasium to foster community and strengthen our core value of Unity.

Renovated Dining Hall, Servery, and Kitchen Students will have a choice of more varied meal options and easier access to meals with more stations offering a wider array of menus.

Robotics Shop and Playing Field Students will have a dedicated place to build, store, test, and host robotics competitions.

Think Tanks Students will have the space to gather, deliberate, collaborate, and compose solutions on a broad array of projects and academic challenges.

Renovated Locker Rooms Students participating in outdoor sports will have direct access to locker rooms by virtue of new exterior entry points. The project greatly increases the space and amenities currently available to the girls’ athletic program.

OUR RESPONSE SECOND FLOOR HIGHLIGHTS

Pedagogy has undergone significant changes since our current science classrooms were built in 1981. The classrooms on the second floor of our new STEM structure will offer students experiential, real-life, collaborative learning spaces.

The BSL-2 (biosafety science level 2) lab will allow our faculty to introduce current and cutting-edge biology subject matter by working with cells, DNA, and enzyme function. As such, our students will receive real-world, current issue-based laboratory experiences.

This lab is designed to anticipate the next generation of curriculum and science education advances and will make Cascia Hall one of first Upper Schools in the state with a BSL-2 lab.

THE COST | $26.8 million

The budget for this project is $26.8 million, which includes a maintenance endowment, construction contingency and cost escalation, material testing, FFE (furniture, fixtures, and equipment), design, engineering and consulting, and campaign costs.

HOW YOU CAN GIVE Direct Charitable Distribution from a Retirement Account Benefactors can make charitable gifts using funds from tax-deferred individual retirement accounts (IRAs).

Donors may use this strategy to satisfy part, or all, of their required minimum distribution (up to $100,000 maximum allowable amount per year) and lower overall tax liability to benefit Cascia Hall.

Planned Gifts Planned gifts provide opportunities to make a meaningful commitment to the campaign now as part of your financial and estate planning. Such gifts can allow donors to accomplish charitable giving goals and take advantage of tax laws.
