CHROMEBOOK 101 Purchasing Your Chromebook Cascia Hall is a college preparatory, liberal arts school and will not deviate from traditional learning but will “always make progress,” to quote St. Augustine, in best practices for our students. Students are required to purchase a Chromebook to use on a daily basis in class. We also strongly suggest purchasing a protection plan warranty (especially Middle School students). Purchase your warranty at https://www.squaretrade.com/laptop-warranty.

Although we don’t require a specific Chromebook, we do recommend these three Chromebooks. If you choose to select a different model, we encourage you to check reviews and features before purchasing.

Cascia Hall is a “Google School.” Our students maintain their school files on Google Drive, which is accessible from any internet-connected device. Students do not need to keep up with flash drives or have to log on to an on-campus computer to get what they need. Drive also makes document sharing very easy!

Also, Cascia email is driven by Gmail, which is very easy to use from Chromebooks as well as smartphones, tablets, and other devices.

Attend Chromebook Boot Camp Students that are new to Cascia Hall are required to attend one session of Chromebook Boot Camp. Students will understand myCascia and Google Drive, learn how to manage Google folders, and practice creating Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Students will also set up their student Google Calendar.

DRESS CODE 101 Cascia Hall Dress Code Students begin the school year in relaxed dress and will begin wearing blazers (Full Dress) in late September or early October. Please see below for detailed information regarding dress! *Please note that you will need a blazer for school pictures on August 20,2021. If you have not purchased your blazer at that time, you can borrow one from the school. You can purchase a patch for your blazer in the Commando Bookstore.

Where to Buy Uniforms Dress shirts, slacks, ties, sweaters, and blazers can be purchased anywhere as long as the items meet the dress code requirements. Skirts and polo shirts must be purchased from the following vendors as noted below:

Command Bookstore The Commando Bookstore sells many Cascia-branded items. In store only.

Relaxed Dress In relaxed dress, blazers and ties are not required; however, students are expected to abide by the same parameters for shoes, socks, and slacks/skirts as required during Regular Dress. During Relaxed Dress, instead of blazers and ties, students are permitted to wear any Cascia-branded golf-style shirt (available from Land’s End or the Commando Store). Cascia branded outerwear may be worn, so long as it is worn over a uniform shirt as detailed above. Outerwear must not extend past the bottom of the skirt.

Outerwear that does not meet the parameters of full dress and/or is not Cascia-affiliated is prohibited.

Spirit Dress Days Occasionally, spirit dress days will be announced. In spirit dress, students must meet the following guidelines or wear the regular/relaxed dress code requirements that would otherwise be in effect that day. The shirt, pants/shorts, or outerwear must be school-issued clothing with “Cascia,” “CH,” “Commandos,” or an official school logo printed on it. This includes team and club attire.

The school-branded clothing must be visible. Nice jeans, capri-length pants, sweatpants, or shorts that extend to at least the middle of the thigh are required. Leggings and other tight-fitting pants are allowed only if the shirt is untucked and falls to the top of the thigh. No tank tops or tight-fitting shirts.

No hats or visors. No torn clothing or clothing with holes in it. No hats or headwear otherwise disallowed in the FULL DRESS portion of the handbook.

Full Dress, Women Skirt, Choice of Two: Cascia plaid or khaki. Skirts must be of an appropriate and modest length for all situations, including standing, sitting, and using the stairs. The school will make the final determination of whether a skirt is “appropriate and modest.” For tailoring and alteration purposes, the bottom of the skirt must extend no more than four inches from the floor when kneeling. However, because some students choose to roll or pull up their skirts after they have been tailored appropriately, the school will use the “appropriate and modest” criteria for enforcement. Students may not roll up their skirts. Please plan to lengthen skirts as necessary as students grow over the years. Repeated non-compliance with these rules may result in a “skirt ban” for the remainder of the semester. Female faculty/staff will enforce the above skirt policy.

Slacks: Any light tan or khaki wrinkle-free cotton dress slacks that conform to Cascia Hall’s cut and style with flat pockets only (no sewn-on pockets). No twill, denim, or corduroy material. No rivets. A solid color leather belt no more than 1 1/2 inches wide must be worn. Slacks must be sized to fit (no sagging) and hemmed to an appropriate length. No capri-length or cropped pants.

Shirt: Any solid-colored or narrow pinstripe white or pastel woven or oxford cloth dress shirt that conforms to Cascia Hall’s cut and style, either long- or short-sleeved. No wide-striped, checkered, or plaid shirts, and no cap length or 3/4 length sleeves. If the collar has buttons, they must be buttoned.

Shirts must be tucked in at all times during the school day and buttoned appropriately. A tee shirt worn under the shirt must be short-sleeved only and solid white in color with no printing. No turtleneck shirts. Blazer Traditional cut and style (not tapered or tailored), navy blue with school patch (sold in the Commando Store) sewn on the left breast pocket.

Socks: Any appropriate, professional color or pattern of matching ankle, crew, or knee-high socks.

Socks must cover the ankles. Appropriate solid-color tights may be worn, but no leggings.

Blazers must be worn in chapel and during passing periods.

Shoes: Final determination as to whether a shoe is “acceptable” is the responsibility of the Dean of Students; however, the following parameters provide guidelines for what will be considered acceptable: Low-heeled, “traditional” leather or canvas dress shoes in an appropriate/traditional color. Accent colors (including soles, laces, etc.) must also be traditional (e.g., no neon accents). Shoes must have a back and must be worn properly. Clean, neat cowboy boots may be worn only with slacks. Shoes not allowed include mules, slides, moccasins, sandals, slippers, house shoes, work boots, and bowling style, athletic, open-toed.

Outerwear, Optional: Must be worn over the shirt, under the blazer. Must not hang below the bottom of the blazer. Two options: Crew neck, V-neck, or button-up cardigan sweater or sweater vest in one solid, traditional color. A Cascia logo is allowed but not required. No turtlenecks or hooded sweaters.

Other outerwear with a Cascia logo sold in the Commando Store or from Lands’ End. No hooded items.

Hair: No outlandish styles, including unnatural and two-toned coloring, feathers, and unkempt or uncombed hair. Hair may not extend to the eyes. Head/hair scarves must not extend below the collar of any shirt. Cultural hairstyles are acceptable; dreadlocks, twists and braids without covering eyes or below collar. Final approval of hairstyle is at the discretion of the Dean of Students. Young men must

be clean-shaven with sideburns no wider than one inch and not extending below the bottom of the ear.

Jewelry may be worn in moderation. No chandelier or other large earrings. No visible piercings other than earrings are allowed.

Makeup: Young women may use makeup sparingly, keeping in mind that its use is to accentuate that which nature has intended, not to change it. The administration has the right to deem the appropriate use of makeup.

SWIPE CARDS 101 Swipe Accounts Student swipe accounts are a wonderful way to pay for anything your student needs!

The best part is you don’t have to worry about keeping money on their card plus you can view all their charges at the touch of a button on the Resource Board! Parents will receive a bill at the end of each month.

The Fine Print Students will be issued their student ID/swipe card within the first few weeks of school.

Lost swipe cards may be replaced at the Bookstore for $10.00. An additional charge of $0.50 is applied each time a student uses the account WITHOUT the card.

You navigate to the Resource Board by logging into your myCascia account then clicking on the Resources button at the top of the page. The Resource Board is full of information for parents and students so read through it and familiarize yourself with all things Cascia!

CASCIA LINK CREW 101 Cascia Link Crew (CLC) We are excited to announce our Cascia Link Crew! Cascia Hall counselors went to extensive efforts to create a helpful and welcoming environment for our newest students by creating our Cascia Link Crew.

All incoming freshmen will be assigned to a CLC group! Each CLC group is led by two upperclassmen that are responsible for welcoming your student to our school community.

CLC leaders will be given student cell numbers which are requested on their enrollment form and will contact your student towards the end of the summer. CLC leaders will organize events throughout the school year to make sure they are connected with the school and their classmates as well as answer any questions. CLC leaders will be your student's contact for all things related to Cascia Hall.

CPFA 101 What is the CPFA? Cascia Parent Faculty Association is the connection between the parents and the school. It is a great way to get involved and meet other Cascia parents and help with various student activities throughout the school year. All Cascia families are members.

While we see the girls wear both, many of the girls opt for the plaid or khaki skirt. We tend to see more plaid skirts but it is your personal preference.

Who goes to the dances? What do they wear?

HOCO Dance is for the Upper School students and THEY ALL GO! It is a super fun time and everyone wants to be there. The girls usually wear a cocktail-style dress while the boys wear jackets and slacks (a great way to see what the students wore last year is to look on social media)!

Junior/Senior Prom is for juniors and seniors and all the juniors and seniors attend. Dress for prom is typically a longer dress for girls and a suit or jacket/slacks for boys.

Do you have to buy all the t-shirts that are offered for sale?

Throughout the year we will have t-shirts designed for special occasions. Most of the students purchase the special t-shirts if it applies to them but not all the students buy them.

It completely depends on if your students like the shirt and if they will wear it later!

Where do the kids park?

Seniors park in an assigned numbered space in the Senior Lot which is on the Utica side near the Upper School gym entrance.

All other drivers park around the baseball field and west of the Senior Lot. There are plenty of parking spaces for all drivers. Students can start driving to school as soon as they have their licence.

What is Minimester?

Minimester is a unique experience that takes place throughout the month of January and is a chance for students to experience their potential future. Juniors and seniors explore month-long intense internships while freshmen and sophomores explore the Minimester Catalog filled with a variety of experiences. Minimester is for ALL Upper School students and is an exciting experience where a grade is earned and a life is changed.

What is Caritas?

In keeping with the Augustinian core values of Truth, Unity, and Love, members of the Cascia Hall community respond to the call to service. Christian Service is a concrete way to put faith into practice. In addition to classroom work, service hours are a graduation requirement and all students participate in Caritas Connection. Your student will receive this information after school starts.

What are typical school hours, mass schedule and late ar rival?

Regular Schedule Hours: M, W, Th, F: 8:00 am - 2:55 pm; these days include break.

Late Arrival Hours / Tuesdays: 8:50 am - 3:05 pm; Classes are shorter by 5 minutes and there is no break on Tuesdays.

Mass Schedule: Same hours as regular schedule hours but the day will include All-School mass.

The building opens at 7:00 am everyday (even on Late Arrival Days).

Students can stay on campus in the Library everyday until 5:00 pm.

Welcome Walk As you can probably tell by now we can’t wait to have our newest Commandos on campus and we wouldn’t miss an opportunity to celebrate them! The Cascia Hall Welcome Walk does just that!

Students will walk onto campus with their entire grade and be welcomed by Cascia students and faculty as they take their first walk on campus! Be prepared for music, balloons, and lots of noise! Watch for more details about the Welcome Walk in your weekly bulletin!
