CASCIA CHRONICLE

A Cascia Hall Preparatory School Publication for the Cascia Community SUMMER 2023 EDITION

DEAR CASCIA HALL

I recently read an article by Professor Arthur Brooks of Harvard Business School who was sharing some of his reflections on how to build a good, successful life, based upon his research as a social scientist. He identified two key ingredients toward this goal:

1) earned success - doing something valuable and meaningful and 2) work that serves others beyond simply ourselves or our families. These two ingredients align seamlessly with our mission here at Cascia Hall and are easily evident among the members of the Class of 2023.

In these pages, we celebrate the achievements of this graduating class. We see their successes, earned through hard work and dedication. We see some of the gifts they bring in service to our community and to our world. We honor those alumni who have gone before us and their lives of service and commitment. We remember transitions in the wider Cascia family, and we anticipate with hope and confidence the future God gives us.

Our lives are a priceless gift. May we spend them striving to better our world. May God bless the Class of 2023, and as we sing in our Alma Mater, we send them off with a prayer for Cascia Hall and a sweet Amen.

St. Rita of Cascia, pray for us.

THE LEGACY CONTINUES

Eleven graduates from the Class of 2023 and their families were recognized at Commencement for being a part of the Augustinian Tradition of Education for generations. These students have parents, grandfathers, and/or great grandfathers who attended Cascia Hall. Many have aunts, uncles and siblings who are also alumni.

CLASS OF 1973 REUNION

The Class of 1973 celebrated their 50th year reunion in May. The group enjoyed dinner at Polo Grill on Thursday evening as well as a reception held in their honor in the monastery on Friday prior to Commencement. Each member received a 50 year medal and was later recognized during Commencement. The reunion ended on Saturday with a brunch in the upper school foyer followed by a tour of the school. It is wonderful to see the strong bond these men have with each other that began when they were students at Cascia. They traveled from all over the country to gather again on our beautiful campus, to reminisce, and to enjoy each other’s company.

ADVANCING CASCIA

I am thrilled to be serving as Cascia Hall’s Director of School Advancement. I hit the ground running in January and haven’t stopped since. Working with our alumni, parent volunteers, faculty and staff, and board members on events like CHAA Trivia Night and CPFA Celebrate Cascia provided opportunities to meet many in the Cascia Hall community while raising funds for our amazing students. Together with our ongoing annual fund, Fund a Need, and Rex E. Walker Alumni Scholarship giving opportunities, these efforts helped reach our net goal of $435,000 for the fiscal year. Thank you!

Our admissions team has welcomed near-record numbers of potential students for tours and shadow days, and enrollment numbers for the 2023-24 school year are above the budgeted number of students. This is thanks in large part to the outstanding job our faculty does each day in educating Cascia Hall middle and upper schoolers in body, mind, and spirit. Thanks go to our current and alumni families as well, because most of our incoming families hear about us from you!

Summer is in full swing with several mixer events for rising 6th and 9th grade students as well as new families. We are making plans for next year’s Fund a Need as well as the Fr. Perez Tennis Tournament, Christmas Tree Lot, and even Celebrate Cascia. And, perhaps most excitingly, we are working with the Steier Group to revitalize our capital campaign. Stay tuned for more information coming soon.

We truly appreciate the generosity of our Cascia Hall community. Whether large or small, your gift makes a real difference in the lives of our students. If you have any questions or would like to discuss giving opportunities, please reach out to me at ewalton@casciahall.com or 918.746.2614.
