These codes are printed on the outside of the cases. This is not to be confused with the GTIN (see below). If you type a value into the Case UPC field under Case Specifications, you must submit a picture of the Case UPC.

GTIN Please supply a GTIN image so that your product can be identified and tracked.

Example:

Requirements: • Should be siloed (isolated/cut out) on a white back ground without any shadows • File size should be 10 x 10 inches • 300 dpi for resolution • Save as a .jpg • Jpeg images should be saved with the maximum (12) quality setting • File name can not include any special characters (ex: #%$) GTIN Information: The GTIN, or Global Trade Item Number, is a 14-digit number that is used by companies to uniquely identify all of their trade items. These codes are printed on the outside of the cases either in a standalone barcode or as part of GS1 Label following the (01) identifier. The GTIN is part of a globally recognized standard utilized by companies across the supply chain to track and identify items.

GS1 Label Please supply a GS1 label. This label encodes multiple pieces of information into a single barcode.

Example: GS1 Information: The GS1-128 label is expanded, single line DataBar that allows users to encode multiple pieces of information into a single barcode. The labels need to be placed on the outside of the cases. In the barcode, each piece of information is identified by the 2-digit code in parentheses directly before the information, i.e. (15). At GFI, we require 3 pieces of information, with allowances for different product types: 1. GTIN – As explained above, the 14-digit GTIN uniquely identifies your item. It is preceded by the identifier (01). 2. Date – If the product is dated, you musT include the date in the barcode in YYMMDD format. Depending on the type of date, this information can be preceded by the following identifiers:

Requirements: • Should be siloed (isolated/cut out) on a white back ground without any shadows • File size should be 10 x 10 inches • 300 dpi for resolution • Save as a .jpg • Jpeg images should be saved with the maximum (12) quality setting • File name can not include any special characters (ex: #%$)

a. (11) – Production Date b. (13) – Packaging Date c. (15) – Best Before Date d. (17) – Expiration Date

3. Weight – If the product has a displayed weight or is a random weight item, the net weight must be coded into the DataBar. This information can be preceded by the following identifiers:

a. (3102) – Net Weight Kilograms – 2 decimal places – 5.00 kg -> 000500

b. (3202) – Net Weight Pounds – 2 decimal places – 4.50 lb -> 000450

i. The last digit indicates how many decimal places to move over.

4. Batch/Lot Number – The batch/lot number is optional to include, but if coded into the barcode, it must be placed last. For further information, please review GFI’s GS1 Policy. In Mantis, if you say you are GS1 Compliant under Case Specifications, you must submit a picture of the GS1 under Digital Assets.

EXAMPLES OF INCORRECT IMAGES Below are examples of images that are not in compliance and how to fix them. Incorrect:

Correct:

Reason: Image was taken on a white background but is not pure white.

Fix: Image requires photo editing to remove the product from the background and delete out the background. This can be done in a photo editing program. This is called siloing/cutting out.

Reason: Image has been siloed/cut out but the resolution is too low. It needs to be at least 300 ppi.

Fix: Take a look at your original photo files. They should be your highest quality images and silo/cut out from that file. Look at your image size settings in your program and make sure it matches the specs above.
