Hey, North Dakota fans — enjoy the regional Leading up to today’s NCAA West Regional in Fargo, any mention of the UND hockey team’s games being played at Scheels Arena seemed to trigger the same response with local fans. That’s a shame, they say. It’s a travesty this game isn’t being played at Ralph Engelstad Arena, they continue. My message to UND fans is this: Stop complaining and enjoy it. I get it. Scheels Arena isn’t

Sports writer the Ralph. It’s 5,000 seats and not 12,000. It’s not leather and granite and bars in the
end zones. But this is the scam the NCAA has forced UND to play, and good for UND for playing along and rewarding its fans. When the NCAA decided to “move” regionals to “neutral” sites, the regional selection became a sham. It was a sham because a regional in St. Paul wasn’t considered a home game for Minnesota and a regional in Worcester, Mass., wasn’t considered a home game for
Boston College. So if UND was going to earn a No. 1 seed and get hosed by playing in a lower seed’s backyard, UND officials had to join the scam. That’s where we are today. UND bid on the regional in Fargo because, well, it’s not on campus. This isn’t a bad thing, though. Scheels Arena is going to be a memorable environment. Unique and quirky, and it will most certainly be a

memorable atmosphere. That’s what it’s all about, right? That’s why everyone wants to get away from playing regionals in Grand Rapids, Green Bay and Toledo. You could hear players, coaches and referees trading words in Grand Rapids all the way up in the press box. That hardly screams postseason atmosphere to me. The kids deserve better than that. They’ll get better than that in Fargo. Speaking of noise, Scheels
Arena is going to be loud. Really loud. And what could possibly make a UND hockey fanbase louder? Try paying an insane amount of money for the limited availability of tickets. My bet is on those fans getting their money’s worth vocally. It won’t be a perfect experience. The parking will be brutal and the press box non-existent, but it’s safe to say we’re going to have a lasting memory of the Fargo regional.

Pregame party
UND’s official pregame party will be held at Fargo Billiards and Gastropub, 3234 43rd St. S., Fargo, beginning three hours before any UND game. There will be a shuttle to and from that location to Scheels Arena.

Leaving the arena
There is NO re-entry. If you try to leave between games, you will not be able to get back in.
The UND-Quinnipiac game and the regional championship game will be televised on ESPNU. That’s Channel 320 in Grand Forks, DirecTV 208 and Dish Network 141. Clay Matvik will call the games.

Parking is a problem at Scheels Arena. On-site parking is extremely limited. The best bet is to park elsewhere and take a free shuttle to the game. Fans can park at Fargo Billiards and Gastropub, Anderson Softball Complex or Bulldog Tap and take a free shuttle to and from Scheels Arena. Arrive early.

The regional is sold out. There are few tickets available on secondary markets like StubHub, and the prices are sky high. There are not expected to be many, if any, scalpers on site.
