GFAB started with a dream and boat loads of passion in 2008. What followed was years of perfecting designs and building a team of legends. Over the years we have listened to what it is our customers really want from their trailers and we’ve incorporated their feedback in order to keep improving with every new trailer made.
With such a passion for trailers, it’s no wonder
GFAB have become New Zealand’s number one premium alloy boat trailer manufacturer, and a growing force in New Zealand’s commercial trailer industry.
GFAB have now opened their Australian factory in Queensland, bringing everything they’ve learned in New Zealand, ready to supply Australia with trailers that are unrivaled by anything else on the market.
At GFAB we believe you deserve more than a standard trailer, you deserve a reliable aluminium towing solution built fit-for-purpose, whether it’s carrying a Boat, Jet Ski, Vehicle, Building Supplies or everything you need for your Summer Holiday.
GFAB believe that getting to your destination should be an easy and enjoyable experience.
We build trailers that look great and tow like nothing you’ve ever towed before.
Boats, Jet skis, Non-marine and Commercial use, GFAB make trailers that are lighter, safer and longer lasting than anyone else.
When your boat deserves nothing but the best, it deserves a GFAB
A GFAB alloy trailer offers three main advantages
1. Rust Proof
A trailer chassis that is built to last, even with regular exposure to salt water
2. Light
A GFAB trailer generally weighs in at 10-30% lighter than it’s steel equivalent. This weight saving converts to fuel savings and helps keep you road legal
3. Strong Years of research and development have led to GFAB’s trailers being built tough with a reputation to match
In Australia, trailers with a gross trailer mass over 750kg require some form of braking. GFAB has options from indirect braking on a single axle, through to direct braking systems on all axles, depending on the weight and size of the trailer.
The GFAB team know exactly what braking system is going to provide the most safety to you and your passengers, as well as other road users.
All of our braked boat trailers come with a fully stainless steel braking system to reduce the amount of time needed to maintain your trailer.
This includes:
• Braided stainless steel brake lines,
• Stainless brake discs,
• Stainless calipers, and
• Stainless backed brake pads
Our braked non-marine trailers run with non stainless electric drum brakes.
The system of braking used to keep your boat safe on our trailers rated up to 2000kg is a hydraulic override system.
When the tow vehicle slows, the trailer’s momentum pushes it forward into a brake cylinder which then delivers braking back to the trailer.
On our large boat trailers, with a weight limit above 2000kg, we offer an optional Wireless Braking System. These systems don’t require you to make additional modifications to your tow vehicle, can be switched between suitable vehicles and works with both 12v and 24v power supplies. These systems are a fantastic option when you’re towing your boat with a vehicle that doesn’t have hard-wired in cab brake control.
GFAB Chassis are designed and built tough, while remaining light. This is achieved by using high tensile, marine grade aluminium precisely cut and folded to form ‘C section’ frames.
These C section frames are welded together for maximum strength, and a combination of engineered plates and gussets are then welded on, to provide further strength and support to the frame.
Next, the frame is welded together with cross members which have been designed to allow the boat to sit as low as possible on the trailer. Sitting low allows you the easiest launching and retrieving experience as it requires less water, and makes it a dream to tow.
Finally, the chassis is lowered onto it’s suspension and axle(s) before all the electrics and final touches are added.
We’ve all heard the horror stories of what happens when wheel bearings fail. They’ll remain other people’s horror stories with your boat on a GFAB.
Regardless of size, all GFAB trailers come fitted with Unihub axles.
Unihubs are an innovative axle that’ve been engineered and designed in New Zealand to handle long journeys and regular exposure to salt water. This gives your trailer a bearing that is stronger, more reliable and safer than a standard tapered bearing.
You’ll spend less time under your boat and more time in it, as the Unihub’s sealed bearing system keeps the grease in, and the water out! Greasing and replacing your wheel bearings regularly will become a thing of the past.
The careful engineering of the Unihub means they are now stronger than a standard hub and are capable of withstanding the different forces placed upon them, especially the shearing forces placed on them in tandem or triple axle trailers.
Launching and retrieving your boat by yourself changes from a dream to a reality when you have a Boatcatch fitted.
These quality stainless steel catches allow you to launch and retrieve your boat on your own!
Available in two different sizes, to suit boats longer and shorter than 6m.
Don’t worry about getting your feet wet with GFAB’s walk boards. Fabricated from alloy tread plate, they provide you an extra level of safety and comfort when launching and retrieving your boat.
Available in full and half lengths.
These are standard on our range of trailers above 3500kg but can be fitted to your trailer on request.
If you have a stern drive boat or you’re often traveling on rough roads, you’ll need a little extra clearance. To be sure your boat and outboard are clear, upgrading your wheels to 14 Inches is a great way to do it.
All GFAB Trailers come with keel rollers and plastic bunks as standard, however these can be upgraded to roller bunks if requested. (Standard on fiberglass boats to protect the gelcoat.)
We use the best quality, high tensile, marine grade aluminium and have spent a lot of time engineering our trailers to ensure this doesn’t happen.
It depends on the trailer, but GFAB Trailers are generally 10-30% lighter than their galvanised steel equivalents.
GFAB Trailers vary in length and width to be the perfect size for your boat, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach taken. Get in touch for specific measurements.
The team at GFAB pride themselves on being able to offer a 4-6 week lead time for manufacture. Once built, there is generally a 6-10 week shipping time line.
The chassis is 100% marine grade aluminium. The suspension and coupling are the only components that use galvanised steel.
GFAB work closely with all of New Zealand’s leading boat manufacturers to ensure we have the right trailer available for the latest models of boat as well as an extensive archive of existing boat models that we have built for.
At this stage GFAB aren’t catering for boats over 4500kg GTM in Australia.
GFAB manufacture a wide range of alloy trailers for both marine and commercial uses. Not all of our trailers are currently available in Australia but we are continuing to add to the product range so let us know if you’re interested in anything specific.
