Drawing a house is easy—until you meet Ines and her endless imagination! When she hires an architect to build her dream home, the blueprint expands with every question: Cabin or castle? Where do guests sleep? And where does Uncle Arthur’s guitar band go? The House of My Dreams is a humorous, visually detailed picture book created by two architects. It celebrates spatial design, boundless creativity, and the joy of imagining the perfect place to live.
An architect has an easy task: to just draw a house when somebody asks! And here is Inez, who shares this belief, wanting me to sketch up her brief.
An architect-led picture book about spatial planning, creative thinking, and dream homes.
• A witty introduction to spatial design, planning, and architectural logic • Rich, chaotic architectural spreads packed with imaginative details to discover • Inspires children to sketch, build, and explore their own dream living spaces GUNTA ŠNIPKE is a poet and an architect whose professional career is closely linked to the seaside city of Liepāja and its historic architecture. Using her clever and precise observations of the world around her, she finds equally clever and precise imagery in her writing while teaching her readers to look, feel, discover, and understand. ANNA VAIVARE is a professional architect and holds a master’s degree in printmaking. With her mesmerising choice of colours and impressionistic painting style, her art will draw anyone into the world of her picture books.

HOW ANIMAL FAMILIES TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER
THE GREAT ANIMAL MIGRATIONS LARGE AND SMALL
We Are All Made From Stars invites children into the wonder of life’s cycle, where atoms and energy transform into something new. With poetic words by Benedikt Lehnert and sweeping illustrations by Marc Majewski, it connects life and death without religion, showing gently that endings are also beginnings.
What does a family gathering in the wild look like? Do animals babysit their young? Meet the amazing family units of the animal world—orca females leading four generations, devoted clownfish fathers, and Greater Rheas adopting orphaned chicks. This book shows how caring, collective, and resourceful animals can be.
From humpback whales traveling thousands of kilometers to dragonflies crossing the Indian Ocean without rest, Keep on Moving explores the marvels of animal migration. Blending science, conservation, and real observations, it introduces food chains, habitats, and life cycles through extraordinary migrating species.

Wise Female Leaders
African elephant herds are led by the matriarch, the oldest female elephant. The matriarch is the most knowledgeable member of the herd—she knows the best migration routes, where to find watering holes, and potential dangers.
The animal kingdom is home to many creatures that survive and thrive thanks to female leaders. These leaders are called matriarchs. A matriarch is often the oldest female in a family or group. She guides and protects her family using her vast knowledge and experience. Many matriarchs form lifelong bonds with family members and they are vital to the survival of the entire group.
A great gathering
OLIVE RIDLEY TURTLES, EAST COAST OF INDIA
Olive ridley turtles, one of the smallest species of sea turtles, come together once a year for one of the most spectacular phenomena of the natural world—an arribada. This is when as many as hundreds of thousands come ashore at the same time to lay eggs on the beach. Olive ridleys dig shallow nests, which can put their eggs at risk from predators, so it is thought that they lay them together to give them a better chance of survival.
For millions of years, sea turtles have traveled thousands of miles across the world’s oceans between their foraging and nesting grounds. Adult turtles will migrate back to the same area where they were born to mate and lay their own eggs. Scientists think that turtles can sense magnetic fields in the Earth and use these to help them navigate.
Allies give strength Lifelong commitment Spotted hyenas live together in groups called clans. Each clan is led by a female, as female hyenas are bigger, stronger, and more dominant than males. While a male cub might eventually leave the clan, females stay with their birth clan and form lifelong bonds.
Bonobos, close cousins of the chimpanzee, live in peaceful groups led by females. They form strong friendships that help keep things in order. Bonobos have been observed sharing food not just with friends, but with bonobos they don’t know—a behavior that is very unusual among wild animals.
A helping hand
MIGRATION: across the tropical waters of the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic oceans, but scientists are still investigating their exact routes. HOW FAR: an olive ridley turtle has been recorded swimming 5,980 miles (9,626 kilometers) over 279 days. 6

Gasp for air Like all turtles, olive ridleys are marine reptiles and must come to the surface to breathe. They are mostly carnivorous, feeding on jellyfish, snails, crabs, and shrimp, but will occasionally eat algae and seaweed.
Charities like the Olive Ridley Project are working to discover more about turtle migration. During the monsoon season it was noted that large numbers of olive ridley turtles were washing into the waters around the Maldives entangled in nets. The project’s team of scientists and volunteers rescue and rehabilitate as many as they can, and when they are released back into the ocean some are tagged with satellite trackers so that we can learn more about their migration routes and foraging areas and try to protect them in the future.

Southern Resident Orcas In the chilly waters off the rugged coastline of the Northwest Pacific Ocean, a pod of orcas is hunting. One orca leads the way. At 46 years of age, Sachi, is the oldest member of the pod—the grandmother. Sachi is also the pod’s most knowledgeable hunter. With her family close behind, she teaches them how to hunt the Southern Resident orcas’ prey of choice— the Chinook salmon.
Eba, a scent-detection dog, helps scientists study the Southern Resident population. She does this by sniffing for whale poo floating on the surface of the water that the scientists then collect for samples.
March of the Crabs RED CRABS, CHRISTMAS ISLAND As the first drop of monsoon rain falls, it’s time for the red crabs of Christmas Island, located in the Indian Ocean, to get moving. Over the following week, 50 million crabs scuttle from their rainforest burrows to the sandy beaches on the northwestern shore of the island. Red crabs need to keep their shells moist because if they get too dry they can die. That’s why they live in damp underground burrows and only start their journey when the wet season starts.
Orcas live in tight-knit family groups often made up of three generations: a mother, her children, and grandchildren. While males can live up to 40 years in the wild, females regularly live into their sixties—and sometimes their nineties. Females are particularly important to the survival of orcas because they pass on skills such as dialects, hunting techniques, and how to find foraging grounds. Female orcas share over 90 percent of the food they catch with their family members. Male offspring receive food from their mothers throughout their lives.
Watch out Migrating across a busy island isn’t without its dangers for a red crab. Christmas Island has lots of roads that the crabs have to cross on their route, so the people there have built bridges and underpasses to help them cross safely. Some residents even use “car shoes” to gently sweep any crabs out of the way of their tires.
Although the baby crabs are no bigger than a grain of rice, they are ready to make a nine-day migration to the rainforest.
Southern Resident orcas have been observed using seaweed “tools” to help scratch each other’s backs.
MIGRATION: from the rainforest to the coast of Christmas Island. HOW FAR: 0.3–2.5 miles (0.5–4 kilometers) each way.
8
When the time is right Red crabs migrate so that the females can lay their eggs in the sea in a process called spawning. Female crabs need to spawn at high tide, when the water is at its calmest. The special tide only happens once a month, so as soon as the rains come, the crabs must travel 0.3 – 2.5 miles (0.5 – 4 kilometers) to the sea. Once they reach the coast, the first thing they do is take a refreshing dip.
9
16
Growing into life Female red crabs brood their eggs for two weeks before releasing them into the sea. One female can carry up to 100,000 eggs.
In the sea, the eggs hatch into small, shrimp-like larvae. Over the next three to four weeks the larvae grow into tiny crabs.
A few days before they are ready to emerge from the water, the crabs gather along the shore. To have the best chance of survival, the baby crabs leave the sea together, sometimes millions at a time.

So … you want to know about life, huh?
