INTEGRATED THERAPY

The learning team around the child is at the heart of the Gesher way. A trans-disciplinary model is taken with every child which sees the teachers, therapists, teaching assistants, parents and carers working collaboratively, beyond discipline-specific approaches.

We pride ourselves on having a neurodiversity affirming approach which acknowledges and celebrates differences. Our practice focuses on identifying strengths and supporting our students to embrace their neurodivergent identities, be aware of their learning and communication styles and in turn become confident advocates for their chosen pathways.

The unique integrated model ensures that your child has a tailored provision of care throughout their school day, based on each student’s individual needs. The majority of therapy takes place within the classroom, as well as in the wider environment alongside peers. Research shows that this approach has a greater impact with significantly increased discussion to understand and respond to the student’s needs and better generalisation of skills.

Gesher offers a range of core therapies with students and families having access to support and advice from our onsite therapy team:

2 full-time Speech and Language Therapists

2 full-time Occupational Therapists

1 full-time Dramatherapist

1 full time Art Therapist

1 Educational Psychologist (half termly input for students, parents and staff)

1 full time Therapy Assistant

Occupational Therapy

At Gesher, we know how important it is that our students are ready to learn and they are appropriately equipped so that they are regulated and their sensory needs are being met, able to learn in the way that best suits them. This includes access to sensory circuits and spaces such as the OT room and sensory rooms where there is specialist OT equipment as well as specialist seating and sensory tools. There is a focus on creative and holistic goal-focused interventions that teach everyday life skills ranging from fine and gross motor skills to toileting, eating, self-care and dressing.

Speech & Language Therapy

Students are immersed in a language-rich and highly visual environment. We follow a Total Communication approach valuing all modes of communication to enable students to interact and engage with their learning and within the school environment. We use Evidence-based programmes and resources to ensure students meet their full communication potential include Colourful Semantics, Lego Therapy and Circles of Closeness.

Creative Therapies

Ensuring we provide a safe space to enhance the wellbeing of all our students and promote positive mental health is core to what our creative therapies offer. Through play, art, drama and music, students are given alternative means of communicating and exploring personal and social situations, where they are able to express, and learn to cope with big emotions, and the stresses that life can bring.
