INFANTS The Pre-School children’s current unit of learning is called ‘This is Me’ and they have been learning about themselves and getting to know the classroom and daily routines.

The children are enjoying their first unit of learning which is packed with many different activities that involve many skills such as fine motor, hand-eye co-ordination and imaginative thinking.

Within this unit, we have looked at building houses and who is in our family as well as looking at shapes and numbers up to 3. Students have used many different materials to explore these areas from painting, building with blocks and also using ICT. Students are also getting to know Miss Rola during Arabic and are enjoying learning through music and games.

JUNIORS During the past couple of weeks, Year 6 students have been working extremely hard on their special volcano projects which they have been working on both in and out of school as part of their Topic curriculum for Geography. In class, they have been learning all about the ways in which natural disasters are caused and the impact they can have on the people and the environment around them.

To showcase their own understanding of volcanoes and their deadly majesty, the Year 6 students have begun to construct their own incredible volcanoes and the results have been wonderful so far! Here are just a few of the examples that we have had in school to date. We look forward to showcasing more of these magnificent pieces of work in our Junior School reception area during the coming weeks. To complete the project, all students will be working with their class teachers to create miniature towns with working lights to link in with their electricity work in Science. We look forward to seeing the finished projects by the end of Term One. Well done, Year 6! Keep working hard!

One exciting upcoming department activity is a visit to Banana Island for Miss Shermira Perry’s Year 11 and 12 Travel and Tourism students. They will be visiting Banana Island as part of their coursework research into the Travel and Tourism industry in Doha.

LIBRARY What’s happening in your library this month?

Dear book lovers! For those of you who have crossed off all the titles on your summer reading list, stop by your GES library to browse our new collection. Our librarians have picked out some fantastic titles that are definitely worth your time!

Infants: Kangaroo Book Club Primary: This October, scare up some fun library activities in with Mr. Wayne.

Secondary: Bookworms club will be held the 1st Wednesday of each month during 1st break in the library.

The group will be discussing and sharing literature of their choice.

ART Art & Textiles trip KS4 Art and Textiles students had a wonderful time at the fire station this week. They were able to experience some local artists and Qatari culture linked work. Some of the work was an artist’s impression of the blockade and what impact this has on Qatar and its people – the students found this fascinating.

The next leg of the trip saw us at the W Hotel – here the students had the most amazing chance to meet Qatar’s famous artist - Ahmed bin Majed al-Maadheed, the artist behind the iconic ‘Tamim Al Majd’ portrait.

He kindly showed the students around his art collection, talked about his work and answered any questions they had. The students had a wonderful art-enriched day out and made memories which will last a lifetime!
