INFANTS The Pre School children have just started their new unit on ‘Mini Beast’They have been learning about ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. This has involved many learning area’s including arts and craft as the children made butterflies and caterpillar, by carefully using their hand eye co-ordination and painting with their fingers and making different colours through mixing the primary colours. The children also looked at how the caterpillar changed into a butterfly. There was also math skills involved as the children counted dots on the butterflies and lady birds.

JUNIORS Welcome back! All of us in Year 4 hope you had a wonderful, restful break and are ready for the exciting weeks ahead in Term 3.

During Term 2, we were learning all about electricity and sound in our Science lessons. In our Topic lessons, we were learning all about the different communities we belong to. On Thursday 7th March, we hosted a Community Event which we invited parents and other classes to. This gave us the wonderful opportunity to show everyone all about the interesting and exciting things we had been learning about. There was even a ‘Community Wall’ which everyone signed on their way out, leaving a special comment.

In Term 3, we will be learning all about how to write a book review. To help us with this, we hosted a book swap out in the quiet area. We got a ‘taster’ of all the excellent books our peers are reading in other classes and gave the books a short review and star rating.

It was an extremely busy few weeks in Term 2 and we are all very excited about the last term ahead of us.

SECONDARY The last few weeks have been a busy time for our Year 7 Geographers and Historians. In History, we have been busy building castles depicting realistic medieval features. In Geography, we have been researching and giving presentations explaining the link between Geography and different sports around the world.

We commend all of our students who have worked hard this term and wish them a pleasant Spring Break.

We wish our GCSE, AS and IB classes, in History, Geography, Psychology and General Studies the very best of luck in their final exams this summer.

We remind them to check the Firefly tasks and resources areas regularly for revision materials sent by their teachers.

INFORMATION On the 28th of March, The Gulf English School held its 12th annual Careers Fair, with many esteemed universities and companies attending. For this Careers Fair, the Year 12 students worked alongside the school counsellors to design and plan for the event with the aim of making it different than other years.

Through a lot of hard work and determination, we achieved our goal and created the Careers Fair with many new ideas, such as including booths for the vendors as well as carpeting the floors.

One of the various new additions was the media coverage was done by Al Jazeera, which was a huge opportunity for the Careers Fair to be made more well known to the public, which is beneficial to the coming years as it could increase the audience. Our Careers Fair included a wide range of options for the students, there was a variety of universities and companies, everything from working in a telephone company to becoming a professional drag racer was present on the day. As for universities, we had many popular and well-known as well as local ones since we wanted to offer as many options as possible to our students.

This was the first big event that the Year 12 and IB1 students have planned collaboratively and we recognise the huge responsibility that came with it. It was extremely challenging at first and we felt stressed throughout the whole event since we wanted this Careers Fair to present the best options for the students and offer them the chance to decide, or at least get an idea of, what career or study to pursue in the future. Thankfully all of our hard work paid off and the Careers Fair was a success and had a large number of sponsors including Ooredoo, Aamal Holdings, QIIB and Faisal holdings.

Personally, I feel like this activity really helped our class regarding teamwork and working collaboratively.

We learnt many things that are essential to planning and designing a big event, such as contacting companies, getting quotes as well as how to handle last minute changes. As this event was something that was led by three students, including me, we felt like getting guidance from the counselors and then passing that on to the other students was extremely important, and in the end all of our effort and hard work paid off and we had a, thankfully, successful Careers Fair.
