JUNIORS During Week 11, Year 4 hosted an exciting gameshow and invited all of the Year 3 classes to come and watch.

This gave each Year 4 student the opportunity to let everyone know all about the fun and interesting things that they had learnt about chocolate. 4ML students hosted the gameshow and some lucky students from 4ML were invited to take part in a competition to win a special prize. All they had to do was listen carefully to each of the other classes’ presentations and answer some questions.

First up to the stage were 4MU who were showcasing all they had learnt about the history of chocolate.

Next, were 4MG who told us all about the journey a cocoa bean takes until it becomes part of a chocolate bar – how fascinating! 4MF gave us all a giggle or two when telling us all about the life of the Mayans. Finally, 4MS took to the stage to show everyone how well they had learnt their Talk for Writing text, using all the actions they had added to the text to help them to remember it. Luckily, the lucky students from 4ML had been listening very carefully and answered all of the questions correctly. Well done, everyone!

SECONDARY In the Science Department, students both new and old are making a great start to this academic year.

Year 7 students began the year exploring how to work safely in a lab and have started to look at the basics of Biology. This has meant many of the Year 7 students have used a microscope and glass slides for the first time to identify cells – not an easy task at all! Many new posters have been produced and students have been getting creative with making model cells.

Year 8 students have been studying breathing and respiration for Biology and in Chemistry they have been learning about the periodic table and metals.

These are new topics that have been quite difficult, but our Year 8 students have worked hard to learn about them, and have enjoyed some exciting practicals – such as seeing alkali metals and their reactions with water.

Year 9, 10 and 11 have all been working hard on their IGCSE course and begun doing unit tests, which has meant lots of hard work. However, when students see that they are making improvements and that their hard work is earning them results they can be proud of, it reminds us, as teachers, why we do this job.
