INFORMATION Dear Parents, We would like to inform you that our waiting lists for the academic year 2020/2021 will be available online from the 15th January 2020 until the 15th February 2020 and can be accessed through the following link: https://www.gulfenglishschool.sch.qa/admissions/ admissions-process As mentioned previously, our admission policy has changed slightly. Priority places for our preschool classes will now be given to students attending The Gulf English Nursery. Entrance assessment will be held in March, depending on the places available. Please note that if your child is already attending The Gulf English Nursery you do not need to complete a new application at this stage. For further enquiries, kindly contact our registrar on admissions@gulfenglishschool.com Important dates: 15th January 2020: Online applications for new students will open (except Nursery children attending Gulf English Nursery). 15th February 2020: Online application will be closed. We would like to also notify parents that the school has applied for a school fees increment for the Academic Year 2020/2021, pending Ministry of Education approval. INFANTS Wow! What a fantastic Term 1 we had in Reception! Here are just some snapshots of what we have been learning about since we came back from the October break. As part of our EYIC topic, we have been learning about nursery rhymes. We have had our first Reception Class Assembly which was presented by RMS children. RMS performed the ‘Humpty Dumpty’ nursery rhyme, using ‘Talk for Writing’ actions. It was amazing to see how the children have grown in confidence and how beautifully they performed. Well done, RMS! We are looking forward to seeing more Reception classes and their performances!
As the weather has cooled down, we were happy to move some of the children’s learning outdoors. Children in Reception are now becoming more independent learners and have enjoyed accessing our outdoor continuous provision activities. In line with our school core values, the children have been learning how to be more responsible and supportive by sharing toys and resources with their peers when they choose outdoor area activities.

JUNIORS Year 4 have completed their first term of this academic year! They will now be using the new skills they have acquired in the upcoming weeks in various areas of the curriculum. Here’s what Year 4 have learnt and will pursue this term: In Writing, Year 4 were introduced to ‘Explanation Texts’ and have enjoyed producing actions and sentences to explain how different appliances work. These skills helped them to write an explanation text using the correct features. In their Reading lessons, Year 4 will be investigating and applying various skills from their reading prompts ‘VIPERS’ (Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explain, Retrieve and Summarise) to enhance their comprehension skills. In Maths, Year 4 will be exploring various multiplication and division strategies to enhance their times tables knowledge and mental maths skills. We have also introduced 'Times Tables Rockstars' in which students have the opportunity to rehearse their times tables and compete with their peers. Year 4 have been excited to start learning about their new topic in IPC this half term – ‘Explorers and Adventurers’. In this learning journey, they will be researching famous explorers and adventurers from the past, exploring the expeditions they have completed and improving their map skills. We look forward to an exciting and productive second term!

SECONDARY It has been a very busy and eventful term in the Humanities department this term; there has also been lots of interesting and noteworthy work produced by our students: In Year 7, History students have created posters on the Roman Army and leaflets on Roman towns to consolidate learning from their lessons. While in Year 9 History, students have really impressed us by creating fascinating ‘Soldier Boxes’ which recreate items that that soldiers from World War I would have had as personal possessions. In Geography, Year 7 students have been learning about plate tectonics, after brushing up on their map skills in the first half of the term. In Year 8 Geography, students have been busy studying migration, while also producing and analyzing population pyramids. The GCSE and IB groups have also been working hard, and they have just taken their mock exams. We wish everyone a happy and restful holiday and look forward to an exciting new term in 2020.
