INFANTS Over the past weeks, Year 1 students have impressed us all with the work completed on Firefly. They have proven how responsible and independent they are as home learners, and we are so proud of all of their efforts. In literacy, we have enjoyed reading the students’ versions of Leon and the Place Between. It has shown just how well they understood our new fantasy fiction novel. They have included a fantastic range of adjectives, conjunctions and have displayed just how far their handwriting has come along over their time on Year 1. In our IPC we have been looking at an inspiring new unit all about ‘The Circus.’ Students have been looking at the different roles you would expect to find in a circus. It has been exciting to compare how circuses in the past are different from those in the present. Our favourite week of learning was all about clowns, and our students used face paint to transform themselves into clowns. We nearly didn’t recognize them! As Year 1 is soon coming to an end, it is important to reflect on how far our students have come this year. They have developed as learners and as global citizens. Our students show us daily the GES core values, and we could not be prouder. Although the end of the academic year has taken an unexpected turn, we cannot wait to see them after this time apart as they go into the next part of their GES journey. JUNIORS Alongside the usual home learning activities of Maths, English Reading and English Writing, Year 5 have been getting creative in the kitchen as part of their new IPC topic: Going Global. We have been learning about trade and commodities around the world. As part of this topic, we have been looking at where our food products have come from. We were pleased to discover that lots of our food products are now grown and produced in Qatar, and so the students were challenged to cook or bake something using as many products as possible from Qatar. Fatima Al Hitmi in 5MF chose to make Crème Caramel using milk, eggs and water from Qatar. Fatima Al Humaidi made a delicious vanilla cake using majority Qatari ingredients! During our IPC lessons, we have been discussing the importance of buying products grown or produced locally to boost the local economy and reduce pollution due to shipping and transporting goods. GES have been lucky enough to visit Baladna farm during Week Without Walls over the past few years, to learn about the production of milk, cheese, cream and other dairy products. So Year 5 would like to challenge you all at home to try and cook or bake something that uses entirely Qatari products! Who is up for the challenge?

SECONDARY There are always amazing things happening in The Gulf English School Art Department; this post is a quick highlight on a few special things from Term 3. During Term 3 students have spent quality time focusing on their course work, which required students to produce textile products with an accompanying portfolio. The Gulf English School Art and Textiles Department congratulates all those that submitted pieces, and, hopefully, look forward to a productive and positive run to the finish line!
