INFANTS Al Sedra article. Leaning Support Infants GES.
In reading and phonics, students attend 30 minute small group sessions engaging in the ‘Read, Write Inc’ phonics, reading and writing programme. The programme enables the children to read accurately and fluently with good comprehension.
It has been a busy start to the new term in Learning Support in the Infant School. The students are busy working on a numeracy and a phonics and reading programme. JUNIORS Maths Skills In Learning Support we focus on the basic Maths skills to help the children understand the lessons taught in class. We use Visual Maths to help the children learn their times tables, division facts, place value and other topics.
Here the children are using Numicon to get a better understanding of what a multiplication question means.
Here the children are using buttons and small cubes to help them answer the division fact questions.
There are many ways that you can help your child with Maths at home too. • Counting with pasta, beads, cutlery and candies. • You could speak with them when cooking/ The children are using place value cards to help them baking. For example ‘we have 6 eggs and to make see the value of each digit in a number. a pancake we need 2 eggs. How many eggs will be left?’ • When cooking/baking, you could discuss how to make the recipe for more or for less people. • When you are out shopping and you see some discounts in the shops, speak with your child and discuss what the discounts mean. SECONDARY The study of Textiles at Gulf English School is both exciting and challenging. Students work with a range of different materials, and technologies, to produce original and innovative designs. They are encouraged to look at fashion designs and illustrations, and also costume designs from different fashion eras, to interpret those designs using a repertoire of different techniques and processes; these include: Lino printing, applique, pattern cutting, embroidery, knitting, draping, fabric dye and fabric manipulation.
At the end of last term, students produced skirts as their final response to the project. This term, they will continue working on skirts using different techniques to complete their projects. We are looking forward to seeing the final outcome. Well done to all the students for producing some amazing work last term.
