INFANTS ICT Reception:
In Reception, children have been learning to hold the mouse correctly to navigate to a particular area. They understand that they must use the left hand clicker for many common computer tasks. Year 2: Year 1
In Year 2, children have been using ‘PowerPoint’ to create a presentation about wild animals. They are now able to open previously saved work and use a search engine purposefully to search for information to include in their presentations. Children can now use ‘Paint’ to create a map with symbols, using shapes, brushes and selecting appropriate colours.
In Year 1, children have been using ‘Paint’ to create a treasure island, using shapes/brushes and selecting the appropriate colours. Using ‘Microsoft Word’, they have typed up their ‘Wild’ stories from a text map.

JUNIORS The children in Juniors have been working very hard in Computing this term. Learning to use word processing software is a valuable skill in today’s society. As technology develops, students are expected to understand the basics of using word processing programs.
In Year 5, the children have been learning about email safety with a focus on preventing and dealing with spam. They have considered the importance of strong passwords and learnt how to create them. SECONDARY It’s the end of Term 1 and Year 11 students have embarked upon the mock examinations. The Graphic Communication students were required to incorporate knowledge, gained thus far, into their examination pieces: Advertising, Typography and The 7 Elements of Art (including the researched topic - Climate Change). Students were given a brief; the scenario was set for students to work to deadline, as if they were employed by a real advertising company. They had to create one research sheet, one design development sheet and their final outcome: a climate change poster. The students grasped the subject matter very well and managed to do a good job of translating their ideas creatively.

SECONDARY ICT – Al Sedra This last term in ICT has included a number interesting elements. The IB1 students received a talk from the MIS Coordinator at our school, when studying the topic ‘IT Systems in Organisations’. This has proven to be very useful, as it has given the students an insight into the diverse roles of people working in the IT industry. KS4 students have been learning about, and applying, database and HTML skills and using dedicated software tools to assist them in this work. These topic areas are significant, as they will be part of the practical exams the students will be sitting in the summer. Pupils can continue practising them in their own time using websites such as ‘www.w3schools.com’. We have a group of Year 9 students who participate in weekly activities, using ICT resources as an enrichment session, in the ‘Childnet Digital Leaders Programme’. Digital Leader, Aiman Izham has started writing a blog, on a weekly basis, which reviews what the Digital Leaders have learnt. The KS3 students are working on different topic areas and will be sitting their end of topic exams in the week commencing 8th December 2019.
