INFANTS RML have been learning about more and fewer In RMF, we have been practising to identify in Maths. We have been practising writing tricky initial sounds in words and some of us have words (I, no, go, the, and to) and blending simple started to copy and segment simple CVC words. CVC words. During our IPC unit, ‘To the Rescue’, we have been learning about people who help us. All Reception and Pre-School children attended a special assembly to which we invited real firefighters! Capitan Michael and Firefighter Ed came to talk to the children about their jobs, the responsibilities of a real firefighter and their role in the local community. The children had a look at Mr Ed’s uniform and were able to ask questions during the assembly and classroom visits.
In RMF we have been learning about people who help us and made thank you cards for our Pre-School teachers for all the hard work they put in last year.
In RMS, children were inspired by the firefighters’ visit and we experimented with mixing colours to create orange, which children said was the colour of fire. We managed to get orange by mixing red and yellow paints.

INFANTS In RMS, we have been super busy with conducting different types of scientific experiments. We tested different types of surfaces to check which one was the best for a car to go faster down the ramp. We discovered that smooth surfaces were better than bumpy ones.
In RMG and RMS we have been busy learning the nursery rhyme, ‘Humpty Dumpty’. We have been ‘mini’ scientists this term. In RMG and RMS we experimented with real eggs to see what would happen if they landed on different surfaces. We discovered that if they landed on something soft like a cushion they would not break, but if they landed on something hard like the floor they broke! RMS tested if Humpty Dumpty (a hardboiled egg which was wrapped in different types of materials each time and placed in a ziploc bag) would crack or remain a whole egg when dropped from a height. In RMG, we experimented with real eggs to see what would happen if they landed on different surfaces.
As part of the White Rose Mastery approach to teaching Maths in Early Years, students in RMS have been learning how to sort objects. One skill that the students had to learn was to work out which object was the ‘odd one out’. The children needed to be able to explain the reasons why they decided that a particular object didn’t fit into the category.
In RMG we had a messy and fun time, exploring how to build a wall using shaving foam and wooden bricks.
In RMU this term, we have been developing our maths and literacy skills. We have been playing games and matching familiar pictures with phonics letter sounds. We have been working in groups to improve our communication skills and practise listening to each other. We have been sorting objects by colour and shape and comparing groups to see which one has more and which one has less. We have also been counting with our peers and practising our number formation.

JUNIORS Year 3 enjoyed learning all about the human body in Term 1, so they thought what a good idea it would be to share their new learning with their parents and friends. They worked very hard in their classes to show off everything we have learnt through posters, activities and demonstrations. 3MU showed their knowledge of the human skeleton and displayed all the different bones we have in our bodies. 3MF showed their knowledge of the 5 senses: touch, taste, smell, hear and feel with lots of fun activities for all of the parents and children to join in with. 3MS designed hearing and eyesight tests to see if any of the parents or children needed to wear glasses, they know that it is important to regularly check your eyes and ears so that they stay healthy. 3ML showed everyone how to stay fit and keep their hearts healthy as their activity included doing some exercise and seeing how this effects the heart. 3MG showed their knowledge of a healthy and balanced diet, and how what they eat can impact on their teeth. They even had a giant set of teeth and a giant toothbrush to show us how it is done! The showcase was a success and everyone that came showed they learned something by ‘tweeting’ us at the end on the giant twitter board.
