INFANTS Since we started our distance learning, Reception students have been trying hard with completing the tasks the teachers set for them on Firefly. Reception teachers have been very busy with making the learning educational, engaging and fun for all of the students! Mrs Battah and Miss Safiyya have been busy making Maths videos, Mrs Lewis has been teaching Phonics and reading stories, Miss Mehreen has been setting Literacy projects and Miss Lorraine has been thinking a lot about making Art projects fun and exciting. Have a look at some amazing pieces of work we have received! Look at the fantastic work below. This is Ahmed Faruqi’s fantastic sentence about the jet, which is red. Look at the way he uses a capital letter at the beginning, finger spaces between the words and a full stop at the end.
Rayaan explored in his garden and found lots of different resources to make this fantastic forest for Goldilocks to walk through.
As part of the Literacy project, Ahmad has been busy making furniture from the Three Bears house using Lego. He has also been exploring what makes a comfortable and uncomfortable bed, and he knows that a Lego bed would be an uncomfortable bed to sleep on. Great work, Ahmad! We have been learning about positional language in Maths. We learnt new vocabulary to say where something is placed. AlAlya used her bears and toys and put them in different positions. We have also been learning about different types of patterns. Look at the patterns created by Judy and Fatima.
The students have been very creative with the EAD tasks set for them to complete on Firefly. Look at what Nasser has made. He has used lots of different materials to make a forest for Goldilocks. Nasser has used pipe cleaners, paper and lolly sticks for the trees. He has also made a small cottage for the Three Bears. Aisha got very creative with the resources she has found at home and made bowls for the three bears as part of our learning for Goldilocks and The Three Bears.

JUNIORS Well it has been a very strange start to the term; home learning is still taking place and teachers and students alike are taking part in lessons in their pyjamas. With the Holy month of Ramadan starting, we are fully aware that children and parents will be tested with fasting, but this has not stopped the students from wanting to continue to strive for the best that they can. In particular, there are two boys in 4MS who have found an area in which they can develop and are now taking extra writing tasks once a week with their teacher. Well done Khalid Al Kaabi and Saad Al Faddalah in 4MS for taking on extra challenges during this difficult time. You are excellent GES and global citizens. Keep up all your hard-work. Keep it up, GES! Year 4.

SECONDARY Science week – 5th March 2020 At the beginning of March was Science week, an opportunity for students to get involved in all aspects of scientific discovery and do something a little bit different for a week. For instance, Year 7s and their parents were involved in a lesson learning how to make fireworks. Also, Year 9 students carried out a scientific investigation and were due to display their findings on a whole range of subjects, such as ‘Which teacher had the dirtiest desk?’, ‘Which age of students had the fastest reaction speeds?’, ‘Can we change the petal colours of flowers?’ and even ‘Which fruit makes the best battery?’. Year 10s and 11s learnt about which careers they could get with qualifications in a Science, and how those careers were important for the future of Qatar. Unfortunately, the week was cut short due to the isolation, but this has not stopped our students from taking what they have learnt in Science lessons out of the classroom and into their own homes. We’ve had students doing dissections at home on a kidney, posters have been made on healthy diets and why it’s important to brush your teeth, as well as information sheets about plants and diseases. As a Science department we have been working hard to make our online lessons fun and engaging, but we’re also amazed at how much effort the students are putting in too!
