INFORMATION This is the 13th Annual College Fair, here at The Gulf English School, and we are proud to welcome a wide variety of the most prestigious businesses and universities here in Qatar. The event is aimed to provide the students with information which can help them when choosing a career path, as well as helping to improve their future university applications. I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to the 6th Form students, here at GES, who have organised the fair and made all of this possible. They have demonstrated a variety of skills in areas such as: negotiation in financial management, design and media and communication. They have worked extremely effectively within a collaborative team. All of these skills are transferable and imperative, when working in the professional world. I would like to also thank H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassem Al Thani and Sheikha Maha for their continuous support of GES and our initiatives, as well as Al Faisal Holdings and Espresso Lab for sponsoring the College Fair. Dear Parent/Guardian, As the calendar year comes to an end, the students at the Gulf English School decided that we should all end our year charitably. One form of donation which is often overlooked, is the donation of blood. For this reason, the IB students of our school have generously collaborated with Al Faisal Without Borders, a charitable company, to host a Blood Drive in Katara from the 11th to the 19th of December (excluding the 13th and 14th). While we understand that school will not be open during this period, we sincerely encourage all individuals to attend the blood drive and donate if possible. (Further information regarding the blood drive will be released closer to the above dates.) To help raise awareness of the importance of donating blood, a Non-Uniform Day will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of December. The assigned colours of the day will be Red and White and the day will be held throughout all four schools. Please inform your child that, to participate in the non-uniform day, 10 riyals must be presented to their form teacher at the start of the day. We hope to see you at the Blood Drive! INFANTS During our EAL sessions, children in Reception have been working hard on their phonics by learning to recognise, read and write their initial sounds. This has taken the form of many different activities, including writing sounds in sand, fishing sounds out of water, matching items to match the sounds as well as identifying objects that start with our ‘sound of the week’. Following on from this, we have also been working, as a team, on group work activities to widen the children’s vocabulary. This has included the completion of various jigsaws and puzzles. We have discussed numbers and colours, naming and identifying different objects within the picture. We have also practised the use of prepositions. The children have worked well with each other, developing the key skills of listening, sharing and taking turns while having fun at the same time. Activities of this nature also allow children to develop their fine motor skills which, in turn, will benefit them within the classroom setting.

SECONDARY Dear Parents This week pupils in years 7, 8 & 9 will be doing their key stage 3 end of term assessments and the following week the year 10’s will have their end of term assessment. The Maths department are expecting some excellent results as pupils have been working really hard. Year 11 will be starting their mock exams as of next week and we would like to wish them the very best of luck. We look forward to seeing them again in January.
