INFANTS To kick start an amazing year, we have centred the children’s learning around the story of ‘Zeraffa Giraffa’ by Dianne Hofmeyr and Jane Rey. This book has it all. Based on fact, it tells the tale of the 1827 journey of Zeraffa, the giraffe. Zeraffa is sent from Egypt to Paris as a gift to the king of France. In Literacy and our IPC topic, we are investigating who the characters are in ‘Zeraffa Giraffa’ and following them on their journey from Africa. We are looking at them from the perspective of the giraffe. We have had to think about our senses and what things we would be able to smell, hear and taste on our journey. So far, we have had some fantastic pieces of writing which have included all our punctuation steps to success. Children have shared their thoughts, feelings and ideas about the areas of learning we are covering during ‘topic time’. In Maths, we will continue to look at and consolidate place value, counting systems and addition/ subtraction. We look forward to having much more fun on our learning journey through this positive first term.

JUNIORS It has been a hectic start to the year in Year 6! All of our classes have settled in well and our newly appointed prefects, student council members and head boys and girls have taken to their roles like ducks to water. Being the eldest in the school, we are ensuring that we demonstrate all of our core values and are effective role models to everyone. We are really enjoying this new responsibility. Our curriculum has exploded! From the moment we arrived for the new school year, we have been engaging in ‘hands on’ learning. First stop - Space for our Space Scientist topic. We’ve been studying the Solar System and tracking the Earth’s orbit around the Sun – just take a look at our shadow drawings. Next stop, beware the clanging strides of The Iron Man! Our new class reader is about a towering metal man who invades Earth. To begin this topic, we worked in teams to create our own iron men and women. Do you think our costumes are convincing? We are inventors! We have been creating our own inventions to solve the world’s problems! Some scavenged and recycled resources are all you need to become tomorrow’s nippiest creators! This project will see us learning all about the great inventors throughout history and thinking about how we can help people in the future! This is only the beginning! Watch this space for more updates on Year 6. See you soon!

SECONDARY Greetings to all our parents and students, from the Business Studies Department, as we embark upon another exciting year ahead; with two new subjects being taught in our department. The introduction of IGCSE Enterprise is exciting, as it will allow over forty five Year 10 students, who are business minded, to participate in practical business activities over the coming months and weeks, both in the Secondary and Primary school.
We would like to extend a massive congratulations to all the BTEC Level 2&3 Business Studies and Travel & Tourism teachers who helped lasts year’s cohort of Year 11 and Sixth Form to achieve a 100% pass rate in all their studies. Special mentions must be made of Mr. Nadeem, Mr. Luke and Mr. Goodrum, whose Year 12 students all achieved Distinctions and Distinction * in all their Year 12 BTEC Business Studies qualifications. Finally, we are pleased to state that our BTEC achievement continues, as we have been selected as the only ISV (International Standards Verifier) in Qatar. Kind Regards. Lloyd Thompson.
The other subject, is AS Travel & Tourism, which has been introduced into the Sixth Form Curriculum to huge success, with over seventy three students opting to study this AS qualification. We are excited by this course, as it will allow some of our older students to organise and run a variety of events across Doha; demonstrating their skills in time management, advertising and promotion. These skills with be demonstrated within events which will focus on Qatar as an alternative world economy for entertainment, hotel management and sports and recreation, as well as embracing the 2019 Athletics World Championship and FIFA 2022 World Cup.
