WHOLE SCHOOL Dear Parents, As we approach our assessment weeks, we would like to encourage our learners and families to try their best. It has been a while since students were able to sit formal assessments and this experience will be a small opportunity to return to what was remembered as ‘normal’ education. Within these assessments, we also want to remind our learners to maintain healthy routines. Make sure you have plenty of rest and eat well. Whilst we encourage all our students to do their best, this can only be done when they are feeling physically well. We regularly encourage our students to strive for success and use these assessments as opportunities to reflect and deepen their understanding. Parents will inevitably worry for their child’s scores, but should always remember this as part of their developmental process. Use these as opportunities to improve and focus on your areas for development. Learning has never been simplified to a number and is a very delicate process. So we remind our learners to prepare, try your best and reflect on the outcomes of your assessment so that you may continue to strive for greatness.

WHOLE SCHOOL Last week, some of our students visited the Education City Golf Club to learn about diabetes and how to have a healthy diet. There, we learned about what our diet should be like and how we should exercise. We also did two activities, which were Foot Golf and putting with tennis balls. The visit was nice and fun. Thank you so much Education City Golf Club for giving us a wonderful opportunity! By Albara Shraim, 4160

INFANTS
We welcomed back many more students after half term, and our classrooms are now filled with chatter, laughter and students going about their work diligently. We as teachers have been 'blown away' by the work that has been produced online – we have immensely enjoyed watching the recordings of students retelling their instructions and stories using their 'maps' and actions. This half-term, students have been learning to use Base 10 to add and subtract in Maths. They have worked hard to understand the concept of exchanging when crossing the ten. The students' information text writing has come on well, and they used time words, conjunctions and strong adjectives to make their writing better. They are now working on writing a journey story based on the book Meerkat Mail. During IPC, students have learnt so much about maps and how to 'read' them. They also made ancient, pirate maps plotting the position of the buried treasure. Now, as the term draws to an end, students are looking forward to learning about transport through the ages. The student's creative skills will be put to the test as they make a timeline to stretch down the passage past all the classrooms. Despite the setbacks that we have faced, learning in Year 2 has surged ahead in leaps and bounds.

JUNIORS Congratulations and Good Luck to Fatima Al Hamaidi and Tarfa Al Jaba, led by Year 6 teacher Mr Paul McKeown, who extensively researched ‘How can you mitigate climate change challenges and promote sustainability in your home and surroundings?’This is a subject the students have been studying in IPC within our ‘What Price Progress’ topic. They are very passionate about making people aware of the necessary changes that need to be made by all of us for this magnificent planet of ours to be preserved.

SECONDARY What an exciting second half term we have had this Autumn! Not only have more students been coming into school but we have also seen an exciting range of responses to the Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum art competition. Our Key Stage Three students explored a wide variety of creative ideas for logos and slogans for the new sports museum. They were encouraged to rigorously research and improve their ideas as budding graphic designers, using small thumbnail sketches to visually show the development of their work. They looked at a wide variety of designers work and many of them completed work at home to an impressive standard. Now we have the difficult task of choosing only two entries to put forward for this national competition!
Meanwhile, our Key Stage Four Art students have been working incredibly hard to explore various artists’ work as part of their on-going portfolio development. Despite the many difficulties they face taking such a practical subject during lockdown and our current phased blended return to school, they are all trying their best and are creating some amazing work. One of our Year 10 students, although stuck in Canada, has attempted using oil paints for the first time with some remarkable results. We are positive that their determination and ability to face challenges will help them over the years to come.
