INFANTS We have finally reached the end of our journey in Year 2 this year. We are sad that we have missed out on saying goodbye to Year 2 children as they move up to Year 3 and start their next journey in Primary. Year 2 have spent the final term this year working hard and overcoming the tough challenge of working online. The topic this term has been “The Magic Toymaker�; the students have been learning about the history of toys, from teddy bears to action figures. As part of the topic, they have been designing their very own toy and writing adverts to try and sell it, as well as making board games to try and help pass time while learning at home. It has been a fantastic year in Year 2, and all of the teachers wish every student the very best of luck as they move up to Year 3. We hope they keep working hard, keep smiling and keep doing their best in everything they do.

JUNIORS We are still live and online in Year 6! Over the past number of weeks, Year 6 have been working extremely hard. The work which the pupils have submitted has been 'first-class.' Across all subjects, the work has been amazing. In English, we have been brushing up on our comprehension skills. In IPC, we have learnt about sound and the speed at which it travels. In Mathematics, we have been diving into division word problems and rounding. Also, we would like to give a big 'thank you' to our specialist teachers who have been providing outstanding and super creative lessons to our Year 6 students. This is the time of the year in which Year 6 pupils begin to think about the scary jump from Juniors to Secondary. The secondary staff have been providing transition activities. These will make the 'big leap' a lot easier. It is clear to see that the Year 6 pupils will continue their core values and show secondary that they are gaining a one of a kind year group. Year 6 have had the chance to meet up with their teacher and classmates during our fun and games slot. The Year 6 teachers have also released their goodbye videos. Plenty of tears, by the teachers, of course.

SECONDARY It has been a rather interesting year, and yet positive for the teachers Mr Andre Battah and Miss Heidi Goodall of the Modern Foreign Languages Department. At this time of the year, the pressure of exams becomes only too real, so we would like to take this opportunity to say: “Bonne Chance, Buena Suerte, Buona Fortuna, Viel Glück, allah yewvfikim, Powodzenia and Good Luck.” Miss Heidi and I are encouraged by the progress of our Year 11 Spanish linguists: Amna A., Amna F., Sofiia, Sara, Altheallanis, and Tochi this year, as they put in a great deal of effort last term. We are confident of seeing their hard work pay off when the IGCSE results come out in August 2020. Within Terms 2 and 3, our KS3 Spanish classes have been attending online lessons and they have been submitting their work, projects and homework on our learning platform Firefly. It is exciting to see the range of language and grammatical structures that they are routinely using with increasing confidence. These students are fortunate enough to have three sessions a week, which gives them the time to learn vocabulary thoroughly and iron out the tricky grammatical structures. Our French learners are also doing their best to keep on top of the workload by following their online lessons on Microsoft Teams and Firefly, and by completing exercises to consolidate their learning. Remember that when learning a language, repetition is all. Experts suggest that most people need to repeat a word at least seven times to fix it in their long-term memory; so remember, lots of practice! Miss Heidi and I would like to wish you a great summer holiday, remember to stay safe and see you in August 2020.
