IMPORTANT INFORMATION On the 12th of September, a Back to School bake sale was held at the secondary campus of the school. The bake sale was promoted and run by the IB students who, not only planned the bake sale, but, in addition, took part in selling ribbons and food/drink, giving students information and also ensured that everything went splendidly.
The strenuous efforts of the IB students alongside the teachers were certainly not for nothing. We are proud to announce that 10,485QR was raised from the bake sale! It was a great success which was pleasing to all. The money will be donated directly to the National Diabetes Association, as mentioned previously.
Now, you may be asking what this bake sale was for? Well, while this was a Back to School bake sale, there is a specific reason as to why this bake sale was held: A short time before the academic year started we, unfortunately, lost a teacher who was dear to us all, Mr. John Hughes (May he rest in peace). We understood that this must have been hard on both the student body and the teachers, and we therefore decided to create a charity bake sale. All the proceeds from the bake sale were donated to the National Diabetes Association, as the late Mr. Hughes was diabetic.
We would like to personally thank the students for donating, as well as participating, in the bake sale, as they have aided in amassing the final amount for a noble cause. INFANTS Yet again, what an amazing week at The Gulf English School! ‘Week Without Walls’ has been packed with a range of exciting activities for both the children and members of staff. From learning Taekwondo, building robotics, playing football to sliding down a cold icy slope, the children have had an amazing time outdoors and in school. Every activity was carefully planned to ensure that our children would learn and develop new skills in a different environment. The children represented the school’s core values in an outstanding way, and we all ended the week with huge smiles on our faces. We look forward to next year!

JUNIORS What an incredible ‘Week Without Walls’ for Year 6! All of our classes have had such a fun and enjoyable week participating in a range of engaging and stimulating activities. Furthermore, the week has been an exciting opportunity for us to see another side to our children’s personalities outside of the classroom and this has brought us closer together as a year group. Some of the year group were fortunate enough to spend the week at Limington PGL in England. During their time at PGL, they took part in climbing, aero ball, riding the giant swing and other team building games. Whilst in London, they attended Laser Tag and learnt lots of exciting new facts in the interesting exhibitions of the Natural History Museum. They also visited Manchester and took part in i-fly where they stood in a capsule that had air pushing underneath them in an upward direction that gave the impression that they were actually flying. The remaining children in the year group who did not leave the country had a fun time on trips outside of school for three days. On Sunday, they enjoyed the activities in the freezing, cold conditions of the Snow Dunes. The children had such an enjoyable time riding down the steep and icy slopes, picking up pace before they reached the bottom. The following day they visited Virtuocity, a gaming arena where the children had an opportunity to put their skills to the test, battling against friends on a games console. On Wednesday, the children attended Sheikh Faisal’s farm. The children had opportunity to participate in a range of activities. These included a five kilometre run, taekwondo, zumba, football, rounders, volleyball, visiting the museum and taking part in ‘Paint the Pony’. For two days, the children participated in different activities in school. Our activities included making brownies, finding letters in a treasure hunt and taking part in a Science experiment in which we created toothpaste by using yeast, food colouring and acid. We also created pieces of art where we displayed
the meanings of words through artistic representations. After all these amazing activities at the end of the week, the children had an opportunity to watch the ‘Snow Queen’ show, which was thoroughly enjoyable! Sadly, the fun week had to come to an end. However, we are now looking forward to what the rest of this term has in store. Watch this space for more updates on Year 6. See you soon!

SECONDARY Year 11 Graphic Communication The students have been exploring different artistic techniques, including: Meaning of colour, collage, portrait, and positive/negative space. They have also embarked on an artist study, and are currently looking at the work of the Boyle Family. The students have researched the family through studying their artwork and ethos. The student tasks, which have resulted from this study, have included: Taking pictures of their local environment (the school grounds), and practising techniques such as enlargement, (both black and white versions); grid techniques, plastic 3D manipulation and charcoal rubbing. Using all of the above gained skills will help the students create their final pieces, which will be posters based around the theme of climate change. The posters will display, not only the own art work inspired by the Boyle Family study, but text skills learnt through typography study.
