BUSINESS AND TRADE REQUESTS

Executive summary Introduction The German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) in Bangkok is a member of the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network (AHK), with 140 locations in 92 countries. Since its establishment in Bangkok in 1962, the GTCC has maintained itself as a reliable intermediary between German and Thai businesses, thus contributing to the dynamism of the economic development in both countries. In the course of 2021, GTCC put together about 166 events in total (83 events of the Membership, Events and Communications Department, 6 events of the Corporate Services Department, 1 event of the Trade Fair Department and 76 events of the GTDEE Department) and activities that encouraged further development and interaction of the German-Thai business community within Thailand and abroad. Despite the challenges of ever-changing covid-19 safety measures, GTCC team learnt to adapt to the situation. The reputation of being able to offer variety of opportunities and collaborations to members, partners and counterparts had been maintained through new/ adapted GTCC services and activities.

Membership, Events and Communications By the end of 2021, GTCC managed to sustain 526 members in the face of the covid-19 pandemic in Thailand and worldwide which largely affected business activities. There were 462 members in Thailand (including 6 honourary members), plus 64 members in Germany and other countries. The Board of the GTCC has decided to initiate the establishment of GTCC Industry Committees on Human Resources, Tourism and Hospitality and Logistics to enhance the active participation of our members in GTCC activities, offer platforms for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among our members and discuss suggestions and proposals GTCC can put forward in the cooperation with our Thai partners in business, government and society. The GTCC HR committee organised two webinars and a virtual exchange. There was also a virtual preparatory meeting of the GTCC Tourism and Hospitality Committee. GTCC members actively participated in GTCC’s virtual and physical events. Although GTCC Ball, GTCC Wine Dinner as well as GTCC Oktoberfest could not be organised due to the Covid-19 outbreak, GTCC held GTCC connects: Welcome New Year and GTCC Year End Cocktail Reception successfully with a limited number of participants to comply with the Thai government’s Covid-19 safety measures. GTCC also organised two member exclusive site visits to Bader Asia Co., Ltd. and Continental Tyres (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Monthly “GTCC Clean Air Initiative (CAI) Series - Green Solutions from Germany” webinars and monthly virtual get-together GTCC Open Forums had served as the alternative platforms for members to stay connect when it was not possible to organise the physical events. GTCC continued utilising social media platforms such as facebook, LinkedIn, and twitter, to keep its members, business partners informed about events, activities and key changes in the business community. #IntroducingGTCCMembers media campaign was continued throughout the year to promote new members to the public. GTCC also fully supported its members by promoting their activities through its website’s members news section and a weekly e-newsletter “GTCC members promotions”. A biweekly GTCC e-UPDATE newsletter is the main channel for updated economic and selected member news. Quarterly UPDATE e-magazine remains a major publication providing essential information about the business and industry sectors in Thailand. Our online membership directory offered more relevant and up-to-date database with dedicated user account and password to access members’ profiles and contact details.

Corporate services The Corporate Services Department supports the market entry process of clients to Thailand, Germany and ASEAN through its services offered: flexible and tailor-made to suite the individual needs of companies. Those services include market studies, market information, business research, business matchmaking, technical workshops, conferences, and the organization of exclusive business delegations. In 2021, the digital adoption of various business formats and services continued creating value for our customers and also helped streamlining internal processes during the coronavirus pandemic.In order to support the export activities of German SMEs, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) as well as German Federal States offer various programs. The GTCC is actively involved in these programs: for example, German Energy Solutions Initiative (BMWK) and the Foreign Market Entry Programme (BMWK). The Corporate Services Department plays a vital role supporting German companies from various industry backgrounds and from the service sector in gaining first-hand knowledge of the Thai market, thus paving the way for potential future business activities in Thailand as well as in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Trade Fairs GTCC is the official representative of leading German trade fair companies with excellent reputations worldwide, including Messe Berlin GmbH, Deutsche Messe AG, Messe München GmbH, NürnbergMesse GmbH and Spielwarenmesse eG. In order to ensure smooth and successful participation in German trade fairs, GTCC offers comprehensive services and provides a one-stop service for Thai companies. Moreover, GTCC acts as the link between Thailand and events in Asia that are organised by German trade fair companies. GTCC also organises comprehensive business delegation packages to trade fairs in Germany, including factory visits and B2B meetings. The trade fair landscape in 2021 has seen great disruption, with shows being canceled or postponed, some gone completely digital or featuring hybrid trade fair concepts. The new trade fair concepts pose new challenges for trade show organizers, but also present unique opportunities, with digital reach in general becoming a key success factor also after the Covid-19 crisis.

German-Thai Dual Excellence Education GTDEE-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) is the coordination and consultation office for higher vocational education based on German quality standard in the “Apprenticeship Programme” and is operated by GTCC. Participating in the GTDEE apprenticeship programme, apprentices spend less than 30 per cent of the time at partner vocational colleges and at least 70 per cent in partner companies. Besides the consultation on dual vocational education, GTDEE offers a service called Quality Assurance (QA) for Vocational Educational and Training for Thai vocational institutions. The QA aims to standardise college quality in light of the development and performances of teachers and students. In addition, the GTDEE provides the service for trainers from various companies called “AdA International - Train the Trainer” (copyrights from DIHK, Germany) to allow the trainers to learn the important steps in preparing training for their respective companies and to acquire how to create an in-company training plan, define and implement the training goals. The GTDEE “Implementation of mechatronics vocational training” project laid the foundation for basic training. The main objective of this measure is the development and implementation of the first steps of mechatronics vocational training oriented to German standards. For this purpose, the textbook “Specialist Mechatronics” had been translated from German into Thai and finally launched in 2021. The textbook is based on the learning fields of the German framework curriculum and contains the basic and specialist knowledge in the fields of metal technology, electrical engineering, electronics and information processing. The book provides all the necessary information for the area OF Industry 4.0 across learning fields and teaching subjects.

Featured events GTCC BUSINESS LUNCHEON: THAILAND ECONOMIC OUTLOOK 2021 GTCC organised the eight Thailand Economic Outlook Luncheon on 23 February 2021 at the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit. The luncheon attracted about 100 guests from a variety of industrial sectors. They were asked to participate in a live survey that was a shorter version of the AHK World Business Outlook survey conducted in October 2020 among the members of the network of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHKs). Mr. Wirat Uanarumit, Vice-Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), who is also Chief Executive Officer and President of Thai Oil Public Company Limited delivered a keynote speech on “the current situation of Thailand’s economy and its prospects and challenges amidst fundamental changes in the global economy and uncertainties in the post-covid era”. The panel discussion on the challenges ahead for 2021 was moderated by Ms. Thira Nuntametha, Senior Representative, Commerzbank AG Representative Office Bangkok. The panelists included: Mr. Roland Folger, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited, for the automotive sector; Mr. Tomasz Mazur, CEO, Siemens Mobility Limited Thailand for mobility; Mr. Bjorn Schoon, Managing Director, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Kuehne + Nagel Limited, for logistics; and Mr. Papong Pramoj Na Ayudhya, Managing Director, BayWa r.e. (Thailand) Co., Ltd., for the topic of energy.

MEETING WITH THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION On 3 December 2021, the GTCC Executive Director together with the GTDEE Project Director participated in a meeting with German Ambassador to Thailand, H.E. Georg Schmidt, and Thailand’s Minister of Education, H.E. Trinuch Thienthong. The topics of discussion included the introduction of the German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) project by the GTCC. The German Ambassador handed over Thailand’s first mechatronics engineering textbook based on German standards, produced by GTCC, to the Minister of Education. With the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), the textbook was translated from “Fachkunde Mechatronik” (6. Auflage, 2019, Europa Lehrmittel) into Thai by a team of experts from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB).

GTCC YEAR-END COCKTAIL RECEPTION

About 130 distinguished guests, including German Ambassador H.E. Georg Schmidt, GTCC members, their spouses and friends, joined the GTCC Year End Cocktail Reception on 16 December 2021 to celebrate the completion of 2021 together. The event was held in the wonderful ambiance of Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok surrounded by the spectacular skyline of Bangkok at night. Thanks are due to Event Partners Hansen Beck and Scheuco, Food and Beverage Partners KCG and Serenity Wines, as well as Venue Partner Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok, for their great support.

GTCC BUSINESS WOMEN NETWORKING: “GENDER EQUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE” Women have proved themselves as strong and competent leaders and have put great efforts into driving work progress and supporting their teams. Women’s representation in the workplace has improved, but in many companies there is still a lack of gender equality and respect. Thus, businesses need to recognise this equality and prepare employees at all levels to fill the gap. At the GTCC Business Women Networking event organised on 1 December 2021 at Altitude, The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, GTCC Acting President Khun Waranya Pratumtin as well as Directors of the GTCC Board Khun Thira Nuntametha and Khun Suwannee Singluedej shared their experiences and perspectives as female leaders on how they overcome the challenge of gender equality. More than 30 participants engaged in an open discussion of the effects of professional gender equality, and their perspectives as women leaders on gender equality in workplace.

GTCC YOUNG PROFESSIONALS NETWORK EVENING ON “E-MOBILITY IN BANGKOK’S URBAN CANAL SYSTEM” GTCC held the first GTCC Young Professional Network Evening of 2021 on 18 March 2021 which was a success, with the participation of about 80 guests. The chamber would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Marcus Magiar, President and Managing Director of Torqeedo Asia Pacific Ltd., for sharing insightful information and his experiences in E-mobility in Bangkok’s urban canal system. This includes Thailand’s first electric passenger ferry fleet powered by Torqeedo and the potential of electric ferries for a greener future of Thailand. The chamber also would like to thank GTCC Board Member Khun Waranya Pratumtin for the warm support as master of ceremonies. In addition, special thanks to Venue Partner, 64 Restaurant, for supporting the event with a very nice venue and good food and drinks.

GTCC CONNECTS: WELCOME NEW YEAR 2021 GTCC’s first networking event of 2021, GTCC connects was amazingly successful with the participation of about 180 guests who are GTCC Members, partners and friends. The event was held on 11 March 2021 at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok and started with welcoming remarks by GTCC Vice President Mr. Michael Welser. The chamber appreciates the generous support from the Event Partner, Mazars in Thailand, the Venue Partner, Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, and the Beverage Partner, Supreme Beverages Asia.

GTCC SITE VISIT TO CONTINENTAL TYRES (THAILAND)

Thirty-seven GTCC members gained valuable experience and insights into the world of quality tyre production during a chamber site visit to Continental Tyres (Thailand) Co., Ltd., on 19 March 2021. Mr. Vignesh Devasenapathy, Plant Manager of Continental Tyres (Thailand) and his team welcomed the visiting group and guided them to explore the company’s world-class tyre manufacturing facilities and processes. Continental, which is one of the world’s technology leaders in tyre production, offers a broad product range for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and two-wheelers.

THE LAUNCH OF GTCC CAI WEBINAR SERIES AND THE WEBINAR ON BOSCH MOBILITY Following the launch of “GTCC Clean Air Initiative (CAI) Series – Green Solutions from Germany” to introduce state-of-the-art technologies and solutions for air pollution issues from Germany, GTCC kicked off a successful webinar in the GTCC CAI series on 13 July 2021. The event attracted about 70 participants, including key representatives from relevant Thai governmental organisations and educational institutes. Mr. Andreas Richter, GTCC CAI Working Group Chair/Director, GTCC Board of Directors, delivered opening remarks and introduced the series. The webinar discussed various topics on clean air technologies and mobility solutions by the speakers from Robert Bosch GmbH: Mr. Dirk Naber, Vice-President, Engineering Diesel Engine and EGT Systems; and Mr. Stephan Gröger, Head of Product Management Business, Field Electrification and Market Segment Electric Vehicles.

GTCC OPEN FORUM

GTCC Open Forum took place online for the third time on 20 July 2021 and moderated by GTCC Vice President, Ms. Waranya Pratumtin. A wide range of business situations and opinions as well as speed networking among current and new GTCC members were fruitfully discussed. Moreover, our members shared their outlook for staffing in the second half of 2021 via a poll; the majority of our members, 56 per cent, said they would not change their staffing plan.

THE FIRST WEBINAR BY GTCC HR COMMITTEE On 8 September 2021, the GTCC HR Committee organised its first exclusive webinar for GTCC members. The webinar focused on updates and practical guides on important HR issues during the Covid-19 pandemic, such as wage adjustments, work-from-home and staff relocation, employees’ vaccinations, the Social Security Office (SSO), business closures and issues on employment termination, which were discussed by Mr. Wichai Somboonchokpisal, Partner at Mazars (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The webinar was moderated by the GTCC HR Committee Chair, Mr. Tom Sorensen, Managing Partner at Tom Sorensen (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The GTCC HR Committee established by the Board of the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, experience exchanges and relationship-building among HR experts and other professionals.

Corporate Services FACT-FINDING MISSION THAILAND “SUSTAINABLE ENERGY GENERATION & INFRASTRUCTURE IN CITIES” On 9 March 2021, GTCC took part in the kick-off event of the virtual Fact-finding Mission Thailand on “sustainable energy generation and infrastructure in cities” organised by eclareon GmbH. A total of 23 participants from Thailand were joining the project within the framework of the German Energy Solutions Initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The virtual mission ran until 11 March 2021.

BUSINESS DELEGATION AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE ON “BIOGAS (INCLUDING BIOGAS UPGRADING)” GTCC organised a Thai-German virtual conference on “Biogas (including Biogas upgrading)” on 16 March 2021, in co-operation with eclareon GmbH, to discuss state-of-the-art technology solutions for biogas and biogas upgrading. The conference began with welcoming remarks by GTCC Executive Director Dr. Roland Wein, and Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the German Embassy Bangkok’s Dr. Alexander Raubold. The keynote presentation on the future of biogas development in Thailand” was delivered by Assistant Secretary-General of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Dr. Prasit Siritiprussamee. Guest speakers were Dr. Athapol Pecharaply, Assistant Vice President of CPF (Thailand) PLC., Dr. Jan Adolph, Biogas Expert at DABEC – Bioenergy Consulting and Mr. Sebastian Ulm, Consultant at eclareon GmbH.

Exclusive presentations on products and technology solutions were given by representatives from eight German companies in the field of biogas: Agraferm GmbH; agriKomp GmbH; APROVIS Energy Systems GmbH; Biogas Hochreiter GmbH; Carbotech Gas Systems GmbH; HeGo Biotec GmbH; Paulmichl GmbH; and Snow Leopard Projects GmbH. The conference was followed by a series of online business matchmakings between the participating German companies and qualified business partners in Thailand.

WEBINAR “MEDTEC INDUSTRY IN THAILAND” WITH IHK REGION STUTTGART – MAY 2021 Asia is the third-largest market for medical technology after North America and Europe. Thus, it is an attractive market for German medical technology companies. This important fact was discussed at a webinar on “Medical Technology in Asia” which was organised by IHK Region Stuttgart on 5 May 2021. GTCC Deputy Executive Director Mr. Marius Mehner, together with Mr. Thomas Hundt, GTAI Director Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, provided insightful information on the Thai market for medical technology.

GERMAN BUSINESS DELEGATION ON “CIVIL SECURITY SOLUTIONS” TO THAILAND – SEPTEMBER 2021

A digital business mission for German companies to Thailand with a focus on technology solutions in the field of civil security, was organised between 13 and 17 September 2021 by the GTCC on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), The mission took place within the framework of the foreign market entry programme of BMWK. Participating German companies included 3S Simons Security Systems GmbH, AIRSENSE Analytics GmbH, BioID GmbH, Neos IT Services GmbH, Perimeter Protection Germany GmbH, Retarus GmbH, Secunet International GmbH & Co. KG – SIG and TASSTA GmbH. The participants focused on cybersecurity solutions, biometric technologies, homeland security, push-to-talk solutions, critical infrastructure protection, access control, sensor array technology and counterfeit protection/consumer protection. On the kick-off day, 13 September 2021, eight participating German technology providers received an overview of Thailand’s economy and investment opportunities by Dr. Alexander Raubold from German Embassy in Thailand, Mr. Thomas Hundt from GTAI and Mr. Marius Mehner from the GTCC. The briefing session was followed by an exclusive site visit to U-tapao International Airport to learn about its facilities and new investment project.

GERMAN BUSINESS DELEGATION AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE ON “ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN INDUSTRY” A digital business mission for German companies to visit Thailand with a focus on technology solutions in the field of energy efficiency in the industrial sector, was organised between 15 and 19 November 2021 by GTCC on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), The mission took place within the framework of the foreign market entry programme of BMWK as a further step towards increasing the co-operation between Thai and German companies. On 15 November 2021, eight participating German technology providers – AR-Experts GmbH, celano GmbH, CS Instruments GmbH & Co. KG, INTEC Engineering GmbH, Kisters AG, MIG mbH, RGU GmbH and Weihe GmbH – received an overview of Thailand’s economy and investment opportunities by Mr. Marius Mehner from the GTCC and Mr. Thomas Hundt from GTAI. On 16 November 2021, they joined a virtual Technology Conference on “Energy Efficiency in the Industrial Sector” organised by GTCC in co-operation with eclareon GmbH. The aim of the conference was to discuss state-of-the-art energy efficiency technology solutions. GTCC Executive Director, Dr. Roland Wein and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Bangkok, Mr. Hans-Ulrich Südbeck delivered the opening remarks. They were followed by insightful market intelligence presentations by Mr. Arthit Vejkit, Committee and Secretary, The Institute of Industrial Energy The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Henning Meschede, Paderborn University. Industry expert Mr. Pan Piyasil, Technical advisor of GIZ’sTRANSfer Project Based in Bangkok, moderated the conference and shared his perspectives on current technologies. The virtual conference was followed a business matching session during 17-19 November 2021 to connect the eight participating German companies with potential business partners and relevant market players operating in Thailand. www.thailand.ahk.de

Trade Fairs ITAP VOICE OF THE MARKETS 2021, THAILAND On 19 of August 2021, ITAP (Industrial Transformation ASIA-Pacific) brought together international innovative manufacturing experts once again, but this time virtually. In collaboration with GTCC, Constellar Exhibitions successfully organised ITAP Voice of the Markets: Thailand, an insightful online forum focusing on Thailand’s manufacturing landscape. Among the many expert speakers were Marius Mehner (Deputy Executive Director at GTCC), James Boey (Executive Director at Constellar Exhibitions), Sakda Sarapatwittaya (Vice President at TARA), Dr. Rutchanee Gullayanon, Executive Vice President, Computer Engineering, KMITL Research & Innovation Services (KRIS), Krisda Utamote (President at EVAT), Somboon Anantathanasarn (Head of Software Business, at Siemens - Thailand), Lynn Lee (Director at Voltrium Systems – Singapore and member of AEIS), Volker Blandow (Global Head of E-Mobility, TÜV SÜD Thailand), Sorawit Wanitanukul (Director of Electric Vehicle Program NSTDA), Waranya Pratumtin (Director International Sales at Thai Switchboard and Metal Work & VP at GTCC), Niwat Phansilpakom (Asst. President at EEI), Dr. Nara Samattapapong (Chair of School of Industrial Engineering of Suranaree University of Technology & Representative of Advent2 Labs Consultation Pte Ltd), Rajan Rajgopal (President & CEO, DenseLight Semiconductors Pte Ltd). The forum with multiple panels were moderated by Glen Tan (Group Partner at Tandem-X), Dr. Andreas Hauser (Managing Director Digital Service at Tüv Süd Asia Pacific) and Nupat Khusribanchong (Project Manager at GTCC)

The ITAP Voice of Markets: THAILAND was focusing on automotive, MedTech, electrical and electronics among other sectors. This forum aimed for providing confidence and facilitating industry transformation during this challenging period. The forum emphasised that digital transformation is the key to maintain the pace of development, innovation, productivity, and business resilience.

BIOFACH / VIVANESS 2021 eSPECIAL The organic food & natural and organic personal care products community came together for their annual sector gathering on 17-19 February 2021. This year’s event was entirely digital. With 775 sessions during the three-day event, divided between Congress, exhibitor presentations and round tables involving 1,442 exhibitors from around the world, the BIOFACH/VIVANESS eSPECIAL provided a wealth of highlights for a total of 13,800 registered participants from 136 countries. More than 400,000 chat messages were sent and over 10,000 video meetings held as the participants interacted at a highly professional level. This year’s BIOFACH and VIVANESS Congress proved very popular. The session “The German Organic Market: Facts, Figures, Analysis 2021”, for example, achieved record participant numbers with more than 700 attendees. Many sessions were contributed by Thai organic experts and activists. Most of them are members of Thai Organic Trade Association (TOTA), a long-term partner of GTCC in promoting organic trade between Thailand and Germany.

IAA MOBILITY 2021, GERMANY

The first IAA MOBILITY in Munich was a resounding success. It took place under the slogan ‘What will move us next’, from 7-12 September. It was the first major international event in Germany since the easing of the lockdown restrictions and was dedicated to the transformation to climate neutrality. The organisers, visitors and exhibitors were very satisfied with the new concept. Under the name of IAA MOBILITY, the first platform for the mobility of the future brought together the most varied modes of transport – from cars and bicycles to digital solutions and urban air mobility.

In total, 744 exhibitors and 936 speakers from 32 countries took part at the IAA MOBILITY, presenting and discussing their innovations and visions for the climate-neutral mobility of the future. The participating exhibitors included automotive companies with 98 exhibition areas, 75 bicycle brands, 152 supply firms, tech companies and 78 startups. Overall, the IAA MOBILITY was attended by 400,000 participants and 3,500 journalists from 95 countries. The new IAA MOBILITY attracted 32 percent more visitors per day compared to the average number of visitors at the last IAA in Frankfurt – despite the continuing COVID-19 restrictions on international travel.

ITB Asia 2021, SINGAPORE ITB Asia 2021 Virtual marked the successful conclusion of the extensive event programme, networking opportunities and business-driven discussions. For the first time, Asia’s leading travel trade show spanned an entire week from 25-29 October, and as usual covered both current and forward-looking leisure, MICE, corporate travel and travel technology topics. An impressive 42,100 business meetings and exchanges were recorded throughout the week, representing an increase of 31 percent from 2020. The event featured more than 3,200 exhibitor showcases and hosted over 900 buyers and 400 sponsors & exhibitors from around the world who participated in the show’s vibrant agenda of conferences and networking sessions. The show was hosted virtually on the wellestablished online platform, ITB Community in Asia (ITB Community), and also played host to MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia. Being a global stage, the virtual ITB Asia featured leading global companies and destinations as well as participations from the National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) including Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). The local offices of TAT from Phang Nga, Koh Samui, Phuket and Krabi participated to engage with key clients and partners.

German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE)

ADA INTERNATIONAL – TRAIN THE TRAINER AT KMUTNB On 5 March 2021, the GTDEE team organised the “AdA International – Train the Trainer” (Ausbildung der Ausbilder – AdA) for practical teachers, which is being held from March 2021 to June 2021 at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). The 13 participants are representatives of the ThaiGerman Pre-engineering School.

MEETING ON PREPARING INDUSTRIAL MEISTER IN MECHATRONICS EXAMINATION On 17 May 2021, the GTDEE team organised an online meeting with KM Boonrawd Head Office, Pathumthani Brewery, TGDE, KMUTNB. They discussed on planning for pilot programme’s mechatronics Industrial Meister examination. Four examinees as in-company trainers have already achieved the AdA (train the trainers) qualification, Thai-German Highly Skilled Technical Trainer Development Programme (TGTT) qualification, which is part of Meister training development led by Mr. Paul Koelker, German expert at TGDE, KMUTNB.

PAL FINAL EXAMINATION FOR BMW SERVICE APPRENTICE BATCH 2019

Between 29 November and 4 December 2021, the GTDEE team members organised the PAL Final Examination Part 2 in theoretical and practical, in Automotive Mechatronics and Motorrad Maintenance for BMW Service Apprentice batch 2019. Mr. Markus Hoffmann, Dr. Kamonsak Suradom and independent examiners oversaw the examination, which was held at the BMW Group Thailand Training Centre.

PAL FINAL EXAMINATION FOR MERCEDES-BENZ (THAILAND) APPRENTICE BATCH 2019 Between 10 and 12 November 2021, the GTDEE team organised the PAL Final Examination Part 2 on theoretical and practical Automotive Mechatronics for the Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Apprenticeship Programme 2019. General tasks The general tasks that are the responsibility of the Executive Director’s office include: • General management of the Chamber; • Initiating a digitalization process for our members, customers and internally • Maintaining close co-ordination with the GTCC Board of Directors; • Representing the GTCC at functions and conferences, delivering speeches and making presentations; • Engagement with DIHK and AHK Committees; • Arranging and coordinating GTCC, membership affairs, media events, trade delegations and visiting German companies, and trade fair representation (together with the relevant managers); • Finance/personnel; • Liaising with government authorities in Germany and Thailand; • Liaising with Business Associations/Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Germany, Thailand and Asia Pacific and the German Embassy Bangkok and other embassies

German Chamber ASEAN Business Council The German Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Delegations in Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam established the German Chamber ASEAN Business Council (GCABC) in order to provide a dialogue platform, strengthen regional co-operation, and support regional trade and investment. The GCABC provides mechanisms to: • Enable ASEAN policymakers to identify bottlenecks of strategic importance for the implementation of the AEC Blueprint, including economic policies influencing ASEAN’s trade and investment climate; • Exchange information between businesses and Chambers with the objective of improving the institutional representation and, ultimately, institutional support from Chambers to businesses; • Formulate joint positions on issues concerning ASEAN trade and investment, in order to enable companies to adjust their business rationale to current policy thinking of ASEAN key stakeholders as well as expected changes in ASEAN’s trade and investment climate. The Executive Director attended telephone conferences between the Executive Directors in ASEAN. The Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director presented the ASEAN market and its growth potential at the following events to German companies interested in expanding to ASEAN: • Virtual International Consultation Day by IHK Region Stuttgart, 29 June • International Consultation Day by IHK Frankfurt, 10 December The Chamber representatives gave first-hand accounts of recent economic trends and developments in South-East Asia, such as the increasing international integration through free trade agreements. They also provided valuable tips on market entry options for German companies and described the opportunities and challenges of business expansion in this highly dynamic region.

Co-operation, project activities and meetings In 2021, the Executive Director participated in more than 100 meetings with member companies and counterparts of various business communities to discuss joint initiatives and exchange views.

AHK network Asia-Pacific The Executive Director was a member of the AHK Beirat since 2016 until 13 June 2021 as regional speaker of the Asia-Pacific Region. In this function he attended the virtual AHK Beirat Meeting on 27 April 2021.

GTCC Clean Air Initiative Working Group Since 2020 GTCC has initiated GTCC Clean Air Initiative Working Group, in which around 20 representatives from member companies participated. The meeting and webinars of the Clean Air Initiative Working Group were organized on the following dates: • 15 February • 14 September • 13 July • 12 October • 10 August • 9 November

GTCC Industry Committees In 2021 GTCC Board of Directors has decided to initiate GTCC Industrial Committees on Human Resources, Tourism & Hospitality and Logistics to enhance the active participation of our members in GTCC activities. Staff activity STAFF OUTING The Chamber organized staff outing from 21 to 23 December at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin, during that all staff joined team building activities and on 23 December they celebrated Pre-Christmas Party together.

Membership Despite the ongoing challenges from second year of covid-19 pandemic, GTCC had successfully retained 526 active members in 2021. There were 462 members in Thailand (including 6 honourary members), plus 64 members in Germany and other countries. Among discontinued members, a significant number of them were terminated because 180 days-overdue membership fee invoices. The rest were SMEs whose operation in Thailand had been shut down or their German management had been replaced and selected members in the hospitality industry whose operations had been suspended or limited during strict covid-19 safety measures from April to October last year. The number of new members in 2021 was 48, among them 41 from Thailand and 7 from Germany and other countries. Among them, 26 were represented by Germans, 9 were represented by Thais, and 13 were represented by other nationalities. New members were introduced to GTCC via other chambers services such as business delegations, events, and member referrals. With the impact of second and third waves of covid-19 in 2021, new members and new representatives had been introduced to the community via GTCC Virtual Members Speed Networking in January and a series of newly introduced GTCC Open Forum from May to November. Even without physical events, the engagement between new and existing members could successfully continue with these virtual get-together format.

GTCC Industry Committees on Human Resources, Tourism & Hospitality and Logistics chaired by experienced member in each industry had been established as a new platform to enhance the German-Thai business community engagement. It offered opportunities to exchange of knowledge and experiences among our members. The suggestions and proposals can put forward in the cooperation with our Thai partners in business, government and society. The weekly newsletter “GTCC’s member special promotions” continued to be popular among members in hospitality and healthcare sectors. Members from other sectors had as well started to adopt it as an alternative to promote their events, corporate news to the community.

Communications and publications UPDATE E-MAGAZINE In 2021, GTCC UPDATE e-magazine featured major trends in various industries, especially in Thailand. It contained several sections: a special focus; Chamber activities; GTDEE Insight; Business Briefs; Members’ Corner; and Trade Fairs. The themes of the magazine during 2021 were Biotechnology, Innovative Agriculture, E-Mobility, and Renewable Energy.

ONLINE MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY Our Membership Directory is fully available on GTCC Website. With a user account and password, members can get access to information on members’ profiles and contact details in order to facilitate business interaction among the members of the German and Thai business communities. Chamber members can still put their company logo at their company profile, in order to enhance corporate brand and visibility.

E-UPDATE GTCC e-UPDATE is a bi-weekly e-newsletter which summarises the latest information on GTCC events and updates on Thailand’s economic development, industry sectors, investment, green technology, ASEAN growth and prospects, bilateral business relations as well as the major activities of GTCC members. It is provided to more than three thousand subscribers, mainly comprising executives of German and Thai companies operating in Thailand, trade/academic institutions, embassies, other foreign chambers of commerce in Thailand as well as counterparts in Germany.

GTCC website was facelifted in December 2021 to be more user-friendly. Several new pages such as GTCC Industry Committees and GTCC Clean Air Initiative, were also added to provide members, partners and customers updates and important information on the chamber’s activities. A webpage about Covid-19 situations in Thailand was regularly updated.

GTCC MEMBERS PROMOTIONS E-NEWSLETTER GTCC members promotions, another electronic newsletter issued by the Chamber, has been sent to members and friends of the Chamber every Wednesday in response to the Covid-19 outbreak, in attempts to support the Chamber’s members in promoting their products, services and activities.

SOCIAL MEDIA Apart from the GTCC website, members and friends of the German-Thai business community are able to stay connected and receive daily updates on GTCC services and events through Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Join today on German-Thai Chamber of Commerce.

GTCC ADVERTISING SERVICE The Chamber offers valuable advertising alternatives in its digital materials which allow companies the flexibility and benefit of reaching out to specific target groups. GTCC advertisement channels in 2021 included: • GTCC UPDATE e-Magazine; • GTCC website (flash logo/banner); • GTCC Membership Directory (logo); • GTCC newsletter (banner in e-UPDATE); • Electronic direct mail (e-blast); • Social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter). GTCC continued using the branding terms of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK), which were suggested by the German Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK). The hashtags #PartnerForSuccess, #PartnerWorldwide, and #PartnerInThailand as well as #PartnerForDVET have been utilised in various GTCC communication platforms such as corporate banners, business cards, website, UPDATE magazine, and social media channels. Logo and weblink of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) remain on GTCC e-newsletters and electronic direct mails (EDMs) as our supporter.

ONLINE CONSULTING APPOINTMENTS

Projects In 2021, the GTCC Corporate Services Department once again organized numerous target groupspecific projects, business delegations, events and workshops that were aimed at fostering bilateral trade relations between Thailand and Germany. In response to the continuous challenges faced related to the Covid-19 pandemic most of these activities had been organized as online formats. In addition, consulting days and related activities with local Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Germany (IHKs) and leading associations (e.g., Association for Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics, BME) were supported. Moreover, the department processed around 900 business and trade requests and did 100+ online consulting appointments in 2021. The portfolio of activities in 2021 included (but was not limited to) projects supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), private sector businesses, government/federal state agencies, industry associations and authorities as well as content-driven events (see list below). In 2021 GTCC organized several online business missions to Thailand, as well as an online business mission for Thai decision-makers to Germany.

Corporate services A selection of activities of the GTCC corporate services portfolio is detailed below.

ADDRESS RESEARCH AND MARKET INFORMATION In 2021, the Corporate Services Department supported Thai and German companies in establishing business contacts by offering and providing its market entry services. Within the scope of this service, the department identified and selected potential business partners in line with clients’ requirements and delivered verified, accountable, and up-to-date contact details.

BUSINESS MATCHING For a more advanced, in-depth and value-added partner search service, the Corporate Services Department offers German and Thai clients its widely sought-after business matching service. The service includes organizing individual target group meetings with potential business partners from the private sector, government agencies, public organizations and associations that are preselected in accordance with clients’ requirements. Driven by Covid-19, the department continued to offer clients the opportunity to do online B2B matchmakings in 2021 to provide access to the Thai and German market even in times of a pandemic.

OTHER DEINTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES Team members of the Corporate Services Department actively supported and undertook the following activities: • Numerous (online) meetings with company representatives from various industry sectors for business advisory and service purposes regarding Thailand and Germany as strategic business locations and hubs. • Supporting activities of the German Chamber ASEAN Business Council (GCABC) • Organizing (online) events hosted by the GTCC. • Organizing (online) seminars and support (virtual) trade fairs.

Trade Fairs and More

TRADE FAIRS SUPPORTED BY GTCC

Trade fair representation 2021 marked the second year in a row that Germany as a trade fair destination has been hit by massive economic downturns caused by the corona pandemic. Only 101 of the 380 planned trade fairs could take place in the third and fourth quarters of 2021. Only from September to the end of the year are trade fairs in Germany possible again which accountable for only 29% of planned trade fairs. The Association of the German Trade Fair Industry AUMA reported that nearly 700,000 square meters of stand space, 35,000 exhibitors, and 2.1 million visitors were counted at German trade fair grounds. That is 85% fewer exhibitors and visitors than in a typical trade show year prior to the Corona pandemic. Many organizers have created virtual platforms as replacement formats, particularly for canceled trade shows. Throughout the year, approximately 60 digital formats were held. Despite these challenges and uncertainties, GTCC stands firm in supporting Thai companies by providing up-to-date information on travel restrictions and participation conditions to German trade fairs. We collaborate with our representing German trade fair organizations such as Deutsche Messe AG, Messe Berlin GmbH, Messe München GmbH, NürnbergMesse GmbH, and Spielwarenmesse eG to promote their physical and digital trade fairs.

GTDEE’S PARTNER COMPANIES AND EDUCATION INSTITUTE IN 2021

GTDEE service portfolio German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) is a training programme of the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Thailand) in which trainees work with a practical focus in companies and also attend technical college. The college addresses practical topics relating to the profession and also teaches general education subjects such as communication techniques, English for professional, mathematic and social study. From the start, the aim was to implement a sustainable training structure in line with the German Model. Learning content from the German general training plan and the framework curriculum has been adapted within the context of the Thai Vocational Education and Training (VET) structure. The AHK Thailand identified Thai training content which was equivalent to the German training framework. This has resulted in three-years VET courses which follow the German training regulation and include its qualifications.

Activities planned for 2022 These activities are related to the progress of the sustainability of dual vocational education development in Thailand. Since education is a continuous development process, GTDEE will continue to work on refining dual vocational education and training standards in Thailand, with the goal of sustainability in order to support vocational education in Thailand towards becoming the hub in ASEAN as follows: 1. GTDEE Vocation Education Committee meeting twice a year in March and November 2022. 2. EV Car Technology Curriculum and Training Plan Guideline. 3. GTCC Final Examination in Mechatronics Level B for 18 students at E.Tech under Project-based Learning. 4. Mechatronics Technician Co-Cer tification between GTCC and Thailand Professional Qualification Institute (Public Organisation) in May 2022. 5. PAL Final Examination part 2 for Automotive Mechatronics (batch 2020) level A = 29 apprentices and Level B = 34 apprentices. 6. GTCC Final Examination in Mechatronics Level C = 18 apprentices 7. GTCC Final Examination in Production Techniques = 5 students 8. PAL Final Examination part 1 for Automotive Mechatronics (batch 2020) Level A = 10 apprentices and Level B = 27 apprentices 9. AdA International-Train the Trainer for 3 batch 9.1 For Technical Teacher Training Course, Pre-Engineering School at KMUTNB. 9.2 For In-Company Trainer. 9.3 For Technical Teacher Training Course cooperation with Don Bosco Technology Bangkok, RMUTL and Chitralada Vocational School. 10. Industrial Meister Examination in pilot programme under cooperation with KMUTNB. 11. Implement Mechatronics under Project-based Learning for 5 years programme at Don Bosco Technological College Bangkok, start with 20 students in Por-wor-chor 1 12. Training delivery on the topics as follow 12.1 English conversation 12.2 Productivity improvement 12.3 Critical thinking 12.4 Quality control concept. 12.5 Electrical measurement and safety regulation. 12.6 PAL Final Examination guideline. 12.7 Mind mapping 12.8 Mathematics for technicians in mechatronics and automotive mechatronics. 13. Promote programme and pre-selection for 13.1 BMW Service Apprentice Programme batch 2022. 13.2 Mercedes-Benz Apprenticeship Programme batch 2022 13.3 Rober t Bosch Technologies Thailand (Amata city Plant) 13.4 Bangkok Cable Co., Ltd. 13.5 RMUTL 14.
