EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

1.1. Introduction The German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) in Bangkok is a member of the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network (AHK), with 126 locations in 86 countries around the world. Since its establishment in Thailand in 1962, the GTCC has successfully positioned itself as a reliable intermediary between German and Thai businesses, thus contributing to the dynamism of the economic development of both countries.

In 2013, the Chamber successfully introduced a number of new initiatives as well as giving facelifts to its existing projects and publications. The Consultancy Services Depar tment gained further recognition, particularly among German and Thai investors, for its focus with regard to research on market entry. Members’ experiences were progressively enhanced to the next level through a variety of value-added events and the greater extent of exposure to contacts of mutual business interest. The Chamber successfully organised 61 events, including business delegation visits and site visits to member companies.

1.2. Membership and events The year 2013 marked a new milestone for the GTCC as it welcomed more than 500 effective members to the Chamber. This accomplishment made the GTCC one of the biggest and fastest growing foreign chambers of commerce in Thailand. The Chamber recorded renewed strong interest in membership with 82 members acquired in 2013 through direct contacts, members’ recommendations and follow-ups.

The membership list includes major German investors as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). At the end of 2013, GTCC comprised 525 members (506 effective members and 19 members pending interviews and payment).

In 2013, the Chamber and its team worked extensively to identify and organise events and activities that met the demands of its members as well as the international business community as a whole. Our events included businessorientated breakfast talks, luncheons, seminars, workshops and regular networking events; all of these events successfully provided an efficient platform for members and counterparts not only to maintain but also establish new contacts for business and industrial development.

1.3. Consultancy services – DEinternational The Consultancy Services Department supports the entry of clients to the Thai, German and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets through its various services that are flexible and tailor-made to suite specific needs. Those services include market studies, market information, business research, business match-making, translation and organising business delegations.

In order to support the export activities of German SMEs, the German Federal Ministr y of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as well as German Federal States offer various programmes. GTCC is actively involved in various programmes (for example, the initiatives “Energy Efficiency Made in Germany” and “Renewables – Made in Germany”) as well as the market development project “BMWiMar kter schließungsprogramm für KMU” (“German Mittelstand” programme) for German SMEs that are supported by BMWi. The Consultancy Services Department plays a vital role in supporting German companies from various industries in gaining first-hand experience of the Thai market, thus paving the way for potential future business activities in Thailand as well as in the forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC 2015).

1.4. Trade Fairs & More GTCC is the official representative of leading German trade fair companies with excellent reputations world-wide, including Messe Berlin GmbH, Deutsche Messe AG, Messe München GmbH, Nür nber gMesse GmbH and Spielwarenmesse eG. In order to ensure smooth and successful participation in German trade fairs, GTCC offers comprehensive services and provides a one-stop service for Thai companies. Moreover, GTCC acts as the link between Thailand and events in Asia that are organised by German trade fair companies. GTCC also organises comprehensive business delegation packages to trade fairs in Germany, including factory visits and B2B meetings. GTCC not only plays a vital role in German trade fair consultancy, it also enhances business opportunities in the European Union market.

1.5. German-Thai Dual Excellence Education German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) is the co-ordination office for higher vocational education based on German quality standards, and is operated by the GTCC. GTDEE co-ordinates directly with vocational colleges in Thailand as well as partner companies in providing and standardising the “Apprenticeship Programme.” This is a two-year vocational programme during which the students can spend less than 50 per cent of the time at colleges and more than 50 per cent working in companies. The department acts as the centre, providing GTCC member companies and colleges with all types of required support throughout the programme. GTDEE is supported by the GTCC, German International Co-operation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ) and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Thailand.

2.1. Featured events The Chamber recorded an incredible year in 2013, having hosted and organised a number of outstanding events. This further strengthened its position in the international business community as well as in co-operation with its counterparts.

Some of the highlight events are listed below.

GTCC Joint Chambers Luncheon with Prime Minister Yingluck In view of the forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, GTCC hosted a special Joint Chambers luncheon on 27 March at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel with Prime Minister Yingluck, who gave a presentation on the topic “Foreign investment in Thailand and the Kingdom’s strategy towards ASEAN liberalization in 2015”. Foreign Chambers of Commerce and Ambassadors were invited to the luncheon, which saw participation by more than 420 Thai and international company executives.

First GTCC Annual Gala Night 2013 On 30 May, GTCC unveiled its first GTCC Annual Gala Night, with the theme “The Glamour of Germany”, at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok. 300 distinguished guests enjoyed the event, which included various highlights and performances throughout the night.

The exhilarating event was made possible by the support of 19 leading German companies and other Chamber members, including Lufthansa German Airlines, BMW Group Thailand, Continental Automotive Co., Ltd., Samitivej Public Company and Thaivivat Insurance PCL.

German Design & Lifestyle Fair 2013 With the objective of promoting the German’s high-end design and lifestyle products, GTCC hosted the German Design & Lifestyle Fair 2013 (GDL 2013), which was held concurrently for the first time with the Franco-Thai Chamber of Commerce’s eleventh Bonjour French Fair (BBF 2013), from 12 to 15 December 2013 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

The event provided an important platform for further strengthening co-operation with French counterparts while allowing visitors to the fairs to experience the quality and appeal of German products.

GTCC Christmas Party and celebration of its 500+ membership achievement Marking another successful year, GTCC hosted its annual Christmas Par ty 2013 as well as a celebration of achieving a membership level of more than 500 during the year. The event took place on 17 December at the Garden Villa of the Sukhothai Bangkok Hotel where more than 400 members and friends enjoyed an evening packed with family-friendly activities that included live music, a children’s amusement station and a lucky draw. In addition, to celebrate its membership achievement, a trophy was presented during the event to Master Group Corporation (Asia) Ltd., in recognition of becoming GTCC’s 500th member in 2013.

2.2. Membership activities Adapting to economic dynamism and particular demands of German companies based in Thailand and other ASEAN countries, GTCC organised a number of events covering various topics of interests, both for large enterprises and SMEs in 2013. Some of the highlight events are listed below: 2.2.1. Breakfast talks New Investment Promotion Strategy, 2013-2017 The GTCC, in collaboration with partnering Chambers of Commerce, organised a breakfast talk on the new Board of Investment (BOI) Investment Promotion Strategy, 2013–2017, on 20 February at the Glowfish Building. The event saw the par ticipation of Ms. Ajarin Pattanapanchai, BOI Senior Advisor, as one of the keynote speakers.

Perspectives for ASEAN Industrial Growth On 4 September, the GTCC and Continental Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd. hosted a breakfast talk at the Four Seasons Hotel, Bangkok, with Mr. Wolfgang Schaefer, Continental AG’s Chief Financial Officer, as the keynote speaker. Mr. Schaefer shared his insights with more than 80 guests on the development of Continental Automotive and its product focus and goal for the future as well as speculation on the mega trend in the automotive industry, emerging countries, consumption and wor ldwide production, and the implementation of the automotive industry in AEC 2015.

2.2.2. Joint chambers luncheon with Mr. Isara Vongkusolkij The GTCC, in co-operation with other partnering Chambers of Commerce, organised a joint luncheon on 18 June at the Hilton Sukhumvit Hotel. Keynote speaker, Mr. Isara Vongkusolkij, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and Chairman of the Board of Trade of Thailand (BOT), drew on his experience as one of Thailand’s top 10 most successful business figures to give a presentation on the topic of “BOT priorities and outlook for business in Thailand”.

2.2.3. GTCC Annual Oktoberfest Night 2013 GTCC Annual Oktoberfest Night, a traditional German celebration from the Bavarian region, does justice in providing the most relaxed networking platform for German business communities and counterparts.

Following overwhelming feedback on its Annual Oktoberfest Night in the previous year, GTCC went all out and organised a two-day event in 2013 which welcomed over 700 GTCC members and friends. The festive nights took place during 1–2 November at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside, Bangkok, with a copious German and international buffet dinner complemented by original Oktoberfest beer from Paulaner, live music and entertainment.

2.3. Consultancy services – DEinternational The Consultancy Services Department can look back on an eventful and successful 2013, having organised a wide range of events, business trips and conferences as detailed below.

2.3.1. “Renewables - Made in Germany” – Solar thermal solutions at the Thai-German Technology Conference The GTCC, in collaboration with GIZ, organised a business delegation to Thailand between 14 and 18 October 2013 for selected German companies. The focus of the trip was centralised on solar thermal solutions for the industrial and commercial sector. As part of the trip, a technology conference took place on 15 October at the Sukosol Bangkok Hotel, with the objective of discussing state-ofhe-art technology for solar thermal solutions.

The conference was seen as a fur ther step towards strengthening the co-operation between Thai and German companies in the field of solar thermal energy, and part of the “Renewables - Made in Germany” initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

2.3.2. “Energy Efficiency - Made in Germany” – Energy efficiency in Buildings On 29 October 2013, the GTCC held a conference on “Energy efficiency in buildings”, as part of a business delegation organised on the same topic from 28 October to 1 November 2013 under the “Energy Efficiency - Made in Germany” initiative supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and in collaboration with GIZ. To highlight the importance of this topic, a BMWi representative participated in the business trip.

The conference focused on the issue of how energy efficiency in buildings can be ensured and how relevant solutions can assist in achieving this goal. The conference was seen as a further step towards strengthening the collaboration between Thai and German companies in the field of energy efficiency in buildings.

2.3.3. Business Delegation and German-Thai Technology Conference on “Innovative ICT solutions and services for the Thai market” As a further step in the efforts to strengthen collaboration between Thai and German companies in the field of ICT, which is being supported by BMWi, the GTCC conducted a business delegation to Thailand from 25 to 29 November 2013. To highlight the impor tance of this topic, representatives of BMWi and Bundesverband IT-Mittelstand e.V. (BITMi) participated in the visit. One highlight of the trip was a technology conference on the theme of “Innovative ICT solutions and services for the Thai market” on 26 November 2013 at Hotel Crown Plaza in Bangkok.

2.4. Trade fairs 2.4.1. Messe Berlin GmbH: ITB Berlin ITB Berlin 2013 was by far the world’s largest meeting place for international tourism policy decision-makers and business leaders. From 6 to 10 March, 10,086 exhibitors from 188 countries presented their products and services in display halls that were fully booked. Overall, some 110,000 trade visitors were registered at the event, with 43 per cent coming from abroad. There was a slight increase in buyers from the United States of America and the Middle East.

Covering 1,649 m2 of exhibition space, 182 Thai exhibitors also presented remarkable tourism products of Thailand for the thirty-ninth time.

2.4.2. NürnbergMesse GmbH: BIOFACH BIOFACH, the world’s leading trade fair for organic food, has been enthusiastic in promoting organically-produced food for many years. The 41,794 visitors to the event from 129 countries were delighted as usual by the usual high-quality, varied and innovative range of products from the 2,207 exhibitors on more than 72,000 m2. The Thai Pavilion, with support from Thailand’s Department of International Trade Promotion, hosted 11 exhibitors who presented various organic products on 108 m2.

2.4.3. Deutsche Messe AG: Hannover Messe The world’s leading showcase event for industrial technology is staged annually in Hannover, Germany. Hannover Messe is the venue of choice for international products and technology launches. Extensive international scope, sustained business leads, broad media coverage and cross-industry knowledge transfers: the statistics for 2013 demonstrated the appeal of the world’s leading trade fair for industrial technology.

Some 6,550 exhibitors from 62 nations participated in Hannover Messe 2013. Of the 217,017 visitors from 93 countries more than 93 per cent were trade visitors while 2,500 comprised journalists from 50 countries.

2.4.4. Messe München GmbH: drinktec 2013 With 66,886 visitors from 183 countries drinktec 2013, the world’s leading trade fair for the beverage and liquid food industry, exceeded all expectations. The overriding feeling among the 1,445 exhibitors from 77 countries was that drinktec was simply the best event of its type. Compared to the previous drinktec in 2009, the 2013 fair recorded a significant rise of 14 per cent in visitor numbers. What was especially pleasing was that German SMEs, many of them local and regional brewers, were rediscovering drinktec and its benefits, including the well-attended "Brewers' Meeting Point" in Hall B1, specially set up for this target group.

2.4.5 Spielwarenmesse eG: Spielwarenmesse Dialog - Feel the Spirit of Play On 1 October 2013, the GTCC and Spielwarenmesse eG hosted a press conference on “Spielwarenmesse Dialog” at the St. Regis Bangkok Hotel. At the event, Mr. Ernst Kick, Chairman of the Board of Spielwarenmesse eG, provided detailed information for potential exhibitors, visitors and members of the media on the world’s leading toy fair, Spielwarenmesse 2014, which was scheduled to take place for the sixty-fifty time between 29 January and 3 February 2014 in Nürnberg, Germany.

2.5. German-Thai Dual Excellence Education 2.5.1.GTDEE workshop with Ministry of Education On 2 October 2013, the GTCC, together with GIZ and German Embassy, organised a workshop to inform the Vice-Minister of Ministry of Education and 29 head of colleges about GTDEE. The German participants in the event included Dr. Ingo Winkelman, Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy in Bangkok, Mr. Phongsakde Chakshuvej, GTCC board member, Mr. JĂśrg Buck, GTCC Executive Director, and Mr. David Oberhuber, Director, GIZ, Malaysia and Thailand. Thai participants included Dr. Kitti Linskul, Vice-Minister of Education, Dr. Chaiyapruek Serirak, Secretar y General of Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC), and 16 Heads of vocational colleges in Thailand.

2.5.2.GTDEE visit at vocational colleges GTDEE visited 10 colleges for the initial stage of the GTDEE college partners selection. The colleges were informed about the GTDEE programme, which is aimed at helping to raise the standard of vocational education in Thailand.

The colleges included Samut Prakan Technical College, Maptaphut Technical College, Kanjanapisek Mahanakorn Technical College, Kanjanaisek Samut Prakan Technical College, Minburi Technical College, Chumpae Technical College, Baan Khai Technical College, Sattahip Technical College, Rayong Technical College and Eastern Technological College. The focus of the colleges visited cover five professions – mechatronics, mechanical, electronics, electrical power and automotive.

2.5.3. Breakfast Talk on GTDEE On 21 November 2013, the GTCC organised a Breakfast Talk on the GTDEE programme for interested companies. The event, held at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel, included an informative presentation in terms of application, qualifications and standards for 55 participants from interested companies.

3.3. Co-operation, project activities and meetings In 2013, the GTCC Executive Director participated in more than 350 meetings with member companies and counterparts of various business communities to discuss joint initiatives and exchange views. This effort contributed to positive development of the Chamber throughout the year. Importance was given to the subjects of trade and investment pertaining to the German business community as well as the Chamber’s new GTDEE initiative, which is aimed at tackling the skilledlabour shortage in Thailand through co-operation with project partners, member companies and local colleges.

In addition, the GTCC Executive Director had the honour of participating in a number of meetings and conferences as guest speaker or moderator. Some of these important occasions are highlighted below.

German companies Presentation Day and Reception, Renewable Energy Asia 2013, BITEC, 6 June 2013 The Executive Director participated as a speaker at German Companies Presentation Day, which followed by Reception of Germany Embassy on the occasion of the official German participation in the Renewable Energy Asia 2013 at BITEC.

Asia-Pacific Forum Bavaria, 10 July 2013 The Executive Director participated as a moderator of a seminar and panel discussion on Thailand, which was the partner country of the Asia-Pacific Forum Bavaria conference in 2013. The Government of Thailand was represented at the event by the Minister of Industry.

Rotary Club of Bangkok Meeting, 8 August 2013 The Executive Director participated as a guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Bangkok Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, during which he gave a presentation on GTDEE, “Shaping the Future”.

Thailand Professional Qualification Institute Workshop, 10 September 2013 The Executive Director participated as a guest speaker at the workshop on “Professional qualifications and occupational/ competency standards for property management, logistics and printing industries”, which was organised by the Thailand Professional Qualification Institute and Hong Kong Qualifications Framework at the Banyan Tree Hotel. An overview of GTDEE was also provided.

Podium Discussion at Worlddidac Asia 2013, 10 October 2013 The Executive Director participated in a podium discussion at the Workshop on the "Importance of work-based training along national standards - experiences from Germany and Thailand" at Worlddidac Asia 2013.

International TVET Experts Meeting, 6 – 8 November 2013 The Executive Director par ticipated as a guest speaker at the Workshop on “Models, approaches and experiences in education and training” held on 7 November during the International TVET Experts, which was organised by GIZ. Paradigm Shift of Logistics in Thailand, 22 November 2013 The Executive Director participated as a guest speaker at the seminar on “Paradigm shift of logistics in Thailand”, held at Lebua State Tower, Bangkok.

4.

MEMBERSHIP AND EVENTS

4.1. Membership The GTCC team actively maintained relations with Chamber members and, at the same time, attracted new members through carefully planned communications and value-added events. As the international business community is, by nature, highly diverse and dynamic, the team constantly kept pace with changes in order to meet the expectations of its members and relevant business communities.

In 2013, the Chamber welcomed 82 new members between January and December. At the end of the year, GTCC had 506 effective members, plus 19 members pending interviews and payment.

The Chamber reaches out to attract new members through various channels that include: Business Networking Events; Consultancy services; Trade fairs clients; Courtesy visits to potential member companies; Direct marketing.

4.2. 4.2.1. Working Group meetings In 2013, the Chamber organised five Working Group meetings with business experts, focusing on three main areas. The meetings provided a platform for sector-orientated participants to share information about the latest developments in their particular industries, and to discuss ways to address challenges and move the relevant industry forward. 4.2.2. Breakfast talks and business luncheons Breakfast talks The Chamber’s breakfast talks are generally organised on GTCC’s own initiative or in co-operation with partner foreign chambers of commerce and/or member companies. A breakfast talk is one of the Chamber’s more relaxed formats and networking platforms, during which participants enjoy breakfast altogether prior to, or during, a discussion/presentation by guest speakers and experts on a particular topic. Introduction of the German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) programme

Business luncheons Similar to the breakfast talks, business luncheons are organised on the Chamber’s own initiative or through joint co-operation.

Taking place at four- or five-star venues, this type of event is aimed at engaging high-profile speakers from the industrial, business and political sectors that are relevant to Germany, Thailand and other ASEAN members. The luncheons also serve as an efficient and effective business networking platform for members and counterparts to meet and discuss matters of mutual interest over a business lunch. 4.2.4. Ice Breaker networking and the Stammtisch Ice Breaker During 2013, the GTCC introduced a new business networking platform called the “Ice Breaker”. Ice Breaker events are aimed at exploring new venues and featuring special activities whenever possible in order to add more value to participants’ experience. 4.2.5. Site visits GTCC site visits are organised in co-operation with, and support from the Chamber members.

The visits allow fellow members and friends of the Chamber to experience an informative tour around a company’s premises and to learn about the operational routine. Site visits are generally free-of-charge for members. The Chamber organised four site visits in 2013 as listed in the table.

4.2.6. Sport events Apart from the usual networking platforms, GTCC also organises events where members and friends of the Chamber can meet and enjoy networking by watching or participating in team or large group sports. During 2013, the Chamber organised two sports events – the GTCC-FTCC-TICC Bowling Tournament 2013, on 7 May, and the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final, on 26 May.

4.2.7. Annual events Asia-Pacific Co-ordination Meeting The annual Asia-Pacific Co-ordination Meeting of the German Chambers of Commerce Worldwide Network was hosted

by GTCC from 21 to 22 January at the Four Seasons Hotel, Bangkok. The meeting was attended by the Executive Directors of German Chambers of Commerce (AHKs) in the Asia-Pacific region and guests from the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK), Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi), German Asia-Pacific Business Association and GIZ. During the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in which the GTCC, DIHK and the Thailand Professional Qualification Institute committed to co-operation within the framework of dual vocational education.

Ordinary General Meeting The GTCC Annual General Meeting 2013 was held on 28 February at the Shangri-La Bangkok Hotel, Bangkok. Mr. Karl-Heinz Heckhausen was re-elected as GTCC President. Mr. Pracha Chivapornthip was re-elected as Vice President. Furthermore, seven candidates were elected to replace seven Board members whose two-year term had ended.

First GTCC Annual Gala Night “The Glamour of Germany� was the theme of the first GTCC Annual Gala Night, held on 30 May. At the centre of the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, an imitation of the Brandenburg gate of Berlin served as a spectacular stage, on which various highlights and performances were presented to 300 guests throughout night.

GTCC Oktoberfest Night This is one of the Chamber’s biggest annual events, which attracts guests from the German and Thai business communities.

It provides an opportunity for German members and friends to enjoy the traditional German celebration with original Oktoberfest beer and food. Therefore, it is considered to be an excellent occasion for companies to treat their counterparts to this German celebratory experience.

In 2013, the GTCC Oktoberfest took place on 1 and 2 November at the Chatrium Hotel Riverside, Bangkok. More than 700 guests enjoyed fantastic entertainment on both nights, including a live performance by a band from Bavaria, Germany, which made the event extremely successful as usual.

GTCC Annual Christmas Party This event is organised annually and serves as another ideal opportunity for GTCC members to celebrate the festive occasion together as the year comes to an end. In 2013, the Chamber hosted its Annual Christmas Party on 17 December at the Garden Villa of the Sukhothai Bangkok hotel, where it welcomed more than 400 guests. The majority of the guests comprised executives of German and Thai companies with their families who enjoyed the family-orientated entertainment. However, the event also enabled member companies to entertain their clients.

4.3. Communications and publications Update magazine In 2013, GTCC completely revamped the look and contents of its Update magazine with the inclusion of important articles and information. All GTCC members are entitled to receiving a copy of Update on a complimentary basis. Each issue of Update, which is published every three months, contains several main sections: a special focus, Chamber activities, Business Briefs, Members’ Corner and Trade Fairs.

The focus of the magazine during the year included the automotive industry, green industry, the Greater Mekong Subregion, and food safety and food security. In general, publication space is principally offered to GTCC member companies for inclusion of articles that are relevant to the focus of each issue but which must be non-commercial.

In addition to the members’ network, Update is distributed to embassies, consulates and foreign chambers of commerce in Thailand, German Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Germany, Industry Clubs under the Federation of Thai Industries, selected universities in Thailand as well as at all GTCC events. With a circulation of 2,000 copies per issue among all GTCC contacts in Thailand and overseas, the magazine provides a valuable opportunity for interested companies to reach out to potential clients via available advertising options.

Handbook and Directory, 2013 The GTCC Handbook and Directory is published once a year and distributed to all members on a complimentary basis. It provides information on the structure, responsibility and services of the Chamber. In addition, essential information regarding doing business in Thailand is included. Most importantly, the publication offers members’ profiles and contact details in order to facilitate business interaction among the members of the German and Thai business communities. Chamber members also have an opportunity to advertise their products and services next to their company profile or elsewhere in the publication to enhance corporate brand and visibility.

German List German List provides a compilation of German companies established in Thailand, including contact details and types of products or services. German List is available for purchase from GTCC. Orders can also be placed for shipment.

ASEAN Roadmap 2015 ASEAN Roadmap 2015 is another notable result of collaboration between the GTCC, German Chambers of Commerce in ASEAN and Germany Trade and Invest. It provides information and statistics pertaining to business and market opportunities for German Mittelstand (SMEs) to ASEAN members.

GTCC Info. and GTCC Event GTCC Info. and GTCC Event, the electronic newsletters issued by the Chamber, are regularly sent to members and friends of the Chamber. GTCC Info. provides information on current news relevant to the German and Thai business communities as well as the development of business and investment in ASEAN. GTCC Event, on the other hand, informs readers of upcoming events that the Chamber is organising or in which it is involved.

‘Wirtschaft in Thailand’ business newsletter In collaboration with the German Embassy to Thailand, Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI) and GIZ, GTCC collected and prepared regular issues of a newsletter to inform German-speaking members and counterparts about current trade and economic developments in Thailand.

Newsflash In collaboration with Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), GTCC circulated a regular e-Newsflash to its German-speaking members. Newsflash provides news about various industries as well as highlights of the Thai economy and the Greater Mekong Subregion.

5.1. Projects In 2013, the Consultancy Service Department organised various projects, delegations, events and workshops that were aimed at promoting bilateral trade relations between Thailand and Germany as well as trade with the entire ASEAN region.

This was further emphasised by contributing to activities of the German-ASEAN Chamber Network.

5.2. Consultancy services Address research and market information Throughout 2013, the Consultancy Service Department supported Thai and German companies in establishing business contacts by offering and delivering its popular address research service. Within the scope of this service, the department selected potential business partners in line with clients’ requirements and delivered verified, accountable and up-to-date contact details.

Business matching For greater in-depth and value-added partner search services, the Consultancy Service Department offers German and Thai clients its widely sought-after business matching service. The service includes organising meetings with potential business partners, government officials and associations that are selected in accordance with its clients’ requirements. If initial interest is shown in co-operation with the client company, the contact is made available.

Translation, interpretation and certification services GTCC again received a very large translation order for 2013. In total, 88 translation orders for power tool instruction manuals were translated.

In addition, translations of documents were prepared for 20 clients. Interpretation services were provided to four companies.

Certification of BIO certificates, BRC food certificates as well as certificates for hygiene standards, international food standards (IFS), registration, subsidiaries, global standards for food safety and quality management system (ISO) were prepared to 55 companies. In total, 145 certifications were provided.

5.3. Other DEinternational activities Staff of Consultancy Services Department actively supported and undertook the following activities: Meetings with numerous company representatives from various industry sectors for business advisor y and consulting purposes regarding Thailand and Germany as a business location and hub; Supporting activities of the German-ASEAN Chamber Network; Fostering the relationship with partners in Myanmar, Cambodia and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Organising events hosted by the GTCC; Workshops, seminars and trade fairs.

6.2. Business delegations CeBIT 2013 Information and Communication Technology Minister Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap visited CeBIT 2013, the world's leading high-tech event showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions, which was held in Hannover. Mr. Jan Immel, GTCC Deputy Executive Director and a Deutsche Messe AG board member, welcomed the Minister and his delegation to the fair grounds on 7 March 2013. The delegation, which included the Minister and another 21 participants, attended the global conference and visited the booths of leading companies who were exhibiting their products and technology at CeBIT 2013. bauma 2013 The GTCC led a 33-member delegation from 14 major companies to bauma 2013, which was held on 17-22 April 2013 in Munich. drinktec 2013 The GTCC organised a visit by a business delegation comprising 31 participants from 10 companies to drinktec 2013 in Munich from 15-21 September 2013. The theme of drinktec 2013 was “Go with the flow”. The participants were greeted with a warm welcoming speech from the project manager in the fairground reception lounge, which was arranged by GTCC, the official representative of Messe München in Thailand.

7.3. Collaboration with the Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) 7.3.1. GTDEE Workshop with OVEC The GTCC with German Embassy and GIZ organised the second workshop with OVEC of the Ministry of Education on 2 October 2013. The aim of the event was to create mutual understanding of the GTDEE programme among Thai and German parties.

Twenty-six persons participated in the event, including Dr. Ingo Winkelman, Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy to Thailand, Mr. David Oberhuber, Director, GIZ Malaysia and Thailand, Mr. Phongsakdi Chakshuvej, member of the GTCC Board of Directors and Executive Vice-President at B. Grimm Co., Ltd., and Mr. Jörg Buck, GTCC Executive Director. The Ministry of Education was represented by Vice-Minister Dr. Kitti Linskul. Sixteen Heads of vocational colleges in Thailand also participated.

7.3.2. GTDEE-OVEC joint colleges visit GTDEE and OVEC participated in the “Chumpae Model” event in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. At the event, the GTDEE team was invited to explain the GTDEE programme to Deputy Vice-Minister of Education Dr. Akanist Klangsang and other participants.
