GeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegeannouncedtheappointmentof L.GaleBucknerandTorranceFordtoitsBoardofDirectors.Bucknerhas workedmorethan40yearsinlawenforcementandthejudiciary.She worksasanindependentcontractorforpost-convictionattorneyssince retiringasMurrayCounty’schiefmagistratejudgein2018.Fordhas servedasthevicepresidentofTalentManagementatShawIndustries GroupInc since2018 PreviousrolesatShawincludedirectorof CollaborativeInnovativeManufacturing,directorofSupplyChain BusinessSolutionsandmanagerofComputerIntegratedManufacturing

Morethan350childrenturnedoutforGeorgiaNorthwesternTechnical College’sfirstseriesofKidsSTEMFestivalsattheGordonCountyand WhitfieldMurrayCampuses.Thefreeeventwasopentoeveryone.GNTC encouragedstudentstocomewiththeirchildrentoengageinfun learningandSTEMactivities.

GeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegeannouncedthatithasearned the2023-24MilitaryFriendly®Schooldesignation Institutionsearningthe MilitaryFriendly®Schooldesignationwereevaluatedusingbothpublic datasourcesandresponsesfromaproprietarysurvey.Morethan1,800 schoolsparticipatedinthe2023-24surveywith665earningspecial awardsforgoingabovethestandard.

GeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegestudentSavannahAlmondhas receiveda$1,000scholarshipthatwillhelpherreachhercareer destinationasadieselservicetechnicianandmechanic Almondwas among15studentsselectedbyNoregontoreceiveaspring2023 scholarship SherecentlygraduatedwithherDieselEquipment Technologydiploma.

SalvadorGonzalez,programdirectorandinstructorofDieselEquipment TechnologyatGeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegewasnamedthe FirstRunner-UpfortheTechnicalCollegeSystemofGeorgia2023Rick PerkinsInstructoroftheYear.GonzalezwasselectedasGNTC’s2023Rick PerkinsInstructoroftheYearandwasalsonamedoneofnineregional finalistsattheGOALandRickPerkinsStateConferenceinAtlanta.He competedagainstotherregionalwinnersfromacrossGeorgiawherehe waschosentheFirstRunner-Up.

TheFlukeEducationPartnershipProgramdonated18multimetersto AutomationEngineeringTechnologystudentsatGNTC Establishedin 1948,FlukeCorp.manufacturesindustrialtesting,measurementand diagnosticequipment,includingelectronictestingequipment.TheFluke EducationPartnershipProgramofferseducatorssupportthroughtool donations,discounts,specialoffersandfreetrainingcourseandcontent forclassroomuse,accordingtoFluke.

TwoGeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegestudentshavereceivedthe college’snewNationalBoardforRespiratoryCareScholarship.Brook AtkinsonandReannaStory,bothstudentsinGNTC’sRespiratoryCare programontheFloydCountyCampusinRome,receivedthescholarship forthesummersemester Thescholarshipsupportsstudentswitha minimum20GPAenrolledintheRespiratoryCaredegreeprogram

TheAccreditationCommissionoftheNationalAllianceofConcurrent EnrollmentPartnerships(NACEP)grantedinitialaccreditationtoGNTC GNTCwasoneofsevencolleges,nationwide,toreceiveaccreditation Asthenation’sonlyaccreditingbodyfortheseuniqueandimpactful educationalpartnerships,NACEP’sstandardsserveasthemodelcriteria forensuringparityinfaculty,coursecontent,studentoutcomesand support.ReceivingNACEPaccreditationmeansaninstitutionhasmet thenation’smostrigorousstandardinconcurrentenrollmentprogram development,managementandevaluationacrossmultiple, multifacetedprogramareas.

LandonStephensisoneofthenewestgraduatesofGeorgia NorthwesternTechnicalCollegefromtheElectricalSystemsTechnology program.Stephensdecidedtoapplyforscholarshipstohelphis academicendeavors.Theresult?Hewastherecipientofmultiplethat helpedpayforhiseducationinitsentirety.“Untilmysenioryearofhigh school,itdidn’treallyhitmethatIneededtoplanmyfutureandfigure outwhatIwantedtodo,”saidStephens.“Inhighschool,Iwas completingclassesformath,readingandgeneralcourseworkatthe technicalcollegetogetstarted”Stephensscoredtwoscholarships throughtheGeorgiaNorthwesternTechnicalCollegeFoundationthanks tosupportfromtheRomeHomeBuildersAssociation(RHBA)andan individualdonor.Stephenscompletedtheprograminlessthanayear.

Economic Development

The Office of Economic Development serves the workforce development needs of northwest Georgia by offering customized training solutions to employers, as well as professional continuing education courses to individuals throughout our service area In addition, we are actively involved in the recruitment of new businesses and the expansion of existing businesses in partnership with various local and state partners Whether at one of our six campus locations or at a company site, the Office of Economic Development offers a variety of flexible training options ranging from leadership, workplace safety, industrial maintenance, computer skills and professional development Whatever the need, our mission is to customize the solution When collaborating with the Office of Economic Development, a wide variety of incentives are available to help offset your training costs Some of the incentives include the Georgia Retraining Tax Credit program, Training Reimbursement Incentive program and the Georgia Quick Start® program offered through the Georgia Department of Economic Development to qualifying new and expanding companies It is our goal to build effective partnerships to provide training that motivates as well as educates Contact us at 706-295-6994 or econdev@gntc edu

Mission

Georgia Northwestern Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, promotes community, educational, and economic development by providing a skilled workforce throughout the communities of northwest Georgia The college achieves its mission by supporting student success and providing quality technical and academic instruction through traditional and distance education delivery methods leading to associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit programs, as well as through customized business and industry training, and adult education services.
