RMIT Bachelor of Fashion (Design) students were presented with the opportunity to design a custom outfit for one of the five local music acts to wear during their performance.

I was selected, alongside one of my peers to design for Melbourne music producer, vocalist and performer IJALE.

We drew inspiration from the artist themselves, from their heritage and musical style, collaborating with them to design an outfit reimagined for performance.

This project follows on as a case study of my graduate collection. Throughout the design process, I drew on the same concepts that I explored in my collection Psychedelia.

I furthered my focus on the theme of collaboration through working alongside another fashion design student to create a cohesive outfit. I also worked with a graphic designer to design the print of my garment and IJALE himself in order for the garment to translate into his performance as best as possible.

I thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative process and found working with designers from a variety of industries invaluable in expanding my skills and design capabilities .

DESIGNING THE PRINT

For this project, I collaborated with graphic designer Dylan Allsop from allp.des in order to create the print I used in my design for IJALE.

We took inspiration from his Nigerian heritage and his preference for earth tones, whilst maintaining a sense of both Dylan’s design aesthetic and the psychedelic visual references from my graduate collection

It was a collaborative effort to combine our three unique styles this is the result of our cumulative efforts.

I think the print is really effective and engaging and will translate well when worn for performance.
