Titles ................... 8 All-SEC Honors.................. 3 Courtney Kupets Carter was named the eighth head coach of the Georgia GymDogs in May of 2017, nine years after completing the most illustrious career in NCAA gymnastics history.

In 2022, Kupets Carter’s fifth year at the helm, ten gymnasts notched 20 career-high scores including 13 scores of 9.900 or better. Senior Rachel Baumann scored a Perfect 10 on floor against Florida in Stegeman Coliseum. It was the first Perfect 10 scored by a GymDog since 2019. Georgia’s last three Perfect 10s on floor were all against Florida. Georgia scored a 49.625 on floor against Missouri, marking the highest event score of the Kupets Carter era. In the anchor position, Soraya Hawthorne scored a 9.975 after Baumann and Megan Roberts earned a 9.950 each. Haley de Jong and Alyssa Perez-Lugones added scores of 9.900 and 9.9850, respectively. Junior Victoria Nguyen earned All-SEC Honors after scoring a 9.900 on bars at the SEC Championship. The GymDogs collected 19 event titles across all events- six on floor, five on vault and four and both bars and beam. The GymDogs continued to excel in the classroom with all eligible athletes being named to the Winter SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Kupets Carter faced challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic during her fourth year as head coach in 2021. Competing an allconference schedule, Georgia defeated Missouri, Alabama, and Kentucky. The team posted its highest score of the season- a 197.325 against the Wildcats in the regular season finale before missing the SEC Championship due to COVID protocols. The GymDogs finished third in the first round of regionals, missing the finals by .025 with a 196.750. Seven gymnasts hit 14 season highs of 9.900 or better across all four events and together the team collected 18 event titles, including two in the all-around.

Junior Megan Roberts was named SEC Specialist of the Week after her stellar performance against Kentucky. She ranked 14th nationally on vault and highlighted Georgia’s season-best performance against Kentucky with three career-high scores and two event titles. She matched her top score of 9.950 on vault to win the event title for the third time this season. She continued to shine with a 9.925 on bars- the highest bars score of the night and another matched career-high, which is also her best of the season. She contributed her third careerhigh on floor as Georgia’s leading scorer with a 9.900.

In her third year at the helm of the GymDogs, Kupets Carter saw a steady build, until the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the end of the 2020 season the GymDogs were ranked 12th, with all four apparatuses also ranked in the Top 25- floor and beam ranked seventh and eighth, respectively. Georgia was one of the first six schools in the country to hit a 197.325, which they hit in week three against Iowa State. At the time it was the third best score in the SEC. The GymDogs notched the highest event score of the Kupets Carter era after scoring five 9.900s or better to post a 49.600 on floor against Auburn.

The team suffered injuries throughout the season, but the gymnasts continued to step up to the challenge and face the adversity. Three freshmen hit six scores of 9.900 or better for their routines and eight returning gymnasts scored 16 career-best scores on their way to

Under Kupets Carter’s direction, Sabrina Vega was tabbed an ESPN Top-10 “Should go viral” floor routine and earned back-to-back SEC Specialist of the Week honors after performances against Auburn and at Arkansas. She finished the season ranked 9th in the nation on floor and earned WCGA regular-season All-America honors as a secondteamer on floor.

The GymDog faithful supported the team throughout the season, totaling 47,572 in attendance. There was an average of 9,515 fans at each meet, which ranked fourth in the nation.

Kupets Carter brought the GymDogs to new heights in 2019 and was named the WCGA Southeast Regional Coach of the Year. Georgia posted its highest season-opening score since 2007- a 196.600 against Ohio State, and was the fifth school in the nation to record a 197.000. For the first time since 2008, Georgia defeated Florida in Gainesville. The then-No. 7 GymDogs upset No. 3 Florida, 197.450197.375, handing the Gators their first SEC loss of the season. At the NCAA Regional in Athens, the GymDogs posted its highest score in a decade with a 198.050 to advance to the NCAA National Championships.

Many GymDogs shined individually under Kupets Carter’s direction in 2019. Sabrina Vega was named SEC Specialist of the Year and Rachael Lukacs earned three SEC Freshman of the Week honors. Marissa Oakley scored Georgia’s first Perfect 10 on bars since 2009. Megan Roberts and Alexa Al-Hameed earned SEC All-Freshman honors. Four Georgia gymnasts earned regular season All-American honors, in addition to Sydney Snead, Sabrina Vega, and Rachel Dickson earning NCAA Second Team All-American honors.

In her first year as head coach in 2018, Kupets Carter led the GymDogs to a seventh place overall ranking. The GymDogs scored a 196.500 to advance to the NCAA National Championship Semifinals in St. Louis. Under her direction, Sydney Snead (vault), Marissa Oakley (bars), Rachel Dickson (bars), and Sabrina Vega (floor) claimed NCAA First Team All-America honors.

Over the course of the regular season, the GymDogs brought in an average of 10,102 fans per meet, the highest number in program history, breaking the attendance record of 10,055 set in 2017.

Additionally, in her first year at the helm, Georgia Gymnastics made history with the highest annual donations to the Gymnastics Endowment Fund, raising a record $235,000, also marking the highest number of season tickets sold in a single season.

In her four years as a Gym Dog from 2006 to 2009, Kupets Carter won four team national championships, eight SEC event championships, nine individual NCAA titles and was a 15-time All-American. She was Team MVP in 2006 and 2009, and won the Honda Award in 2007 and 2009. Kupets Carter holds the distinction of being the first gymnast to win individual championships on all four events and the all-around title.

Kupets Carter, Georgia’s only Honda Broderick Cup award winner, also excelled in the classroom with two CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-America honors and was the recipient of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Outside of her collegiate career, Kupets Carter won a team silver medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece in addition to an individual bronze on uneven bars. Kupets Carter is married to Chris Carter. The couple has three daughters, Brooklyn (Dec. 2015), Savannah (Dec. 2018), and Charlotte (July 2022), and a son, Bentley (June 2017).
