Governor's Letter Hello Georgia Circle K!

Happy fall, everyone! You guys never cease to amaze me with everything you accomplish. It has been amazing seeing everyone's efforts with recruitment, service, socials, and more—especially after the year we just had.

There are multiple clubs that have come out of the pandemic with membership growth, and I couldn’t be more proud. I appreciate all the work you guys have put into this year, and I thank you for letting me be a part of it.

Since my last letter, Georgia District has had a successful District Day of Service with over 50 members present from around the state. A huge shout-out to our District Service Chair NelSilva Wolf for organizing the event! Nelsilva planned food (with honey banana vegan options that turned out to be better than we thought), fellowship activities, and our service project with Habitat for Humanity, so be sure to commend her on how great the event was! I think I can speak for all of us when I say we made a huge difference on the Augusta Habitat for Humanity Restore, and it was really fun to meet everyone who came.

6 - Words from our leaders

Governor's Letter (cont.) Another shoutout to our Conventions Chair Hyeran Park and her committee who planned a Fall Membership Retreat like never bee-fore (sorry not sorry for all the bee puns) early November! It was a great weekend of service, workshops, s’mores, karaoke, and other fellowship activities in Covington! Unfortunately, I was ill during the time, but I was super excited to see everyone there on Saturday. Special thanks to our International Trustee Tyler Kearns for flying out from New York to join us for this amazing weekend. I hope all our attendees had a wonderful time meeting other members of GACKI, learning about Circle K International, and tidying Newton Trails!

Once again, thank you all for the dedication and hard work you have put into this organization. Everything we do would not be possible without the hard work of our members. If you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out! I look forward to doing more visits and meeting more of you throughout the year.

7 - Words from our leaders

Letter from the Editor Hello, Friends!

I hope everyone's semester has been going well. This has been a busy time for us all between school, work, play, and Circle K ;).

With so much going on, I hope everyone has had a chance to partake in your club activities. If not, that's okay. My job is to help you catch up on some of the things you may have missed this fall, as well as help those who were able to partake in district activities relive some of those great moments we shared as a district.

In this issue of the Kronicle, you can look forward to reading about division updates, District Day of Service, Fall Membership Retreat, and more. Hear from both our leaders and fellow members as they share what it is they love about GACKI.

As I have mentioned before, it is a goal of mine to include more of the voices of those who make GACKI what it is in the Kronicle. As you may notice, this issue features many photos of our members at district events. I would love to showcase what everyone is doing on the club level as well, so please send me photos and descriptions of projects or activities you all have been working on at

editor@georgiacirclek.org

- I would

greatly appreciate it.

I hope you all enjoy your read-through(s) of the Kronicle and feel a sense of pride when reading about all the great things everyone has been doing in our community, and I hope they may inspire you to step out and do something good as well. Happy fall, y'all!

8 - Words from our leaders

A Word: International President Hello, Georgia District!

I hope you’re enjoying the fall and have settled into the semester. It’s hard to believe that 2022 is right around the corner. I wanted to take this opportunity to write to you all and share some exciting things that the Circle K International Board has been working on this year!

One of our main priorities has been creating a better connection amongst all aspects of CKI and the Kiwanis Family. This includes our club advisors, alumni, and sponsoring Kiwanians.

We’ve been connecting with club advisors in ways that we’ve never done before. We hosted our first ever CKI Advisor Roundtable to hear from club and Kiwanis advisors from across the organization. We started a Facebook group to allow advisors to connect and learn from each other. Additionally, we started a database of advisors so we can connect you and your club to advisors at other clubs.

We’ve also continued the work of previous years to connect with CKI Alumni. We will be launching an alumni network in early 2022 to allow alumni and members to reconnect or network. More information on this initiative will be out soon!

And finally, we’ve been working on planning Circle K International Convention in Austin, Texas from July 24th through July 27th. Vice President Leah always hypes up the Georgia district, so I expect an excellent showing from you all. This will be our first inperson convention since 2019!

If there are any ways I can support you during this time, please let me know. I love hearing from you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out any time. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to talking to you all soon!

Yours in Service,

Kyle Lank president@circlek.org (302) 753-0072

9 - Words from our leaders

Meet Our International Trustee Hello Georgia District!!

My name is Tyler Kearns and I have the honor and pleasure of serving you this year as your International Trustee! I am a senior at St. Lawrence University in Upstate New York where I also serve as the Membership Chair for my home club. I study Conservation Biology, so if any of you are also avid plant parents, I’m more than open to talking about plants!

As the semester starts to wind down, I want to say how awesome you and your club are for all of the work that you put in since I became your Trustee in July. You turned out in awesome numbers for District Day of Service, helped raise hundreds of dollars for WASH, and were amazing hosts to me when I visited you all at the Fall Membership Retreat in November (on top of meeting all of you, it was nice to get out of the New York snow :) ). Your clubs have rebounded strongly from the past year in both membership and involvement, and I cannot be more proud and cannot wait to see what the rest of the service year brings us!

On the International side of things, make sure you are checking out all the great benefits that you get for being part of Circle K International! Our Global Leadership Certificate will be rolling out more certification courses soon, so be on the lookout for those in the coming weeks! In the meantime, check out the courses that are already available to our members that can be found on our website.

Overall, I want to make sure that you all know that I am an open resource to you for whatever and whenever you may need. As a Trustee, I want to be another person in CKI that you can reach out to whenever you need help, have a problem, or need someone to bounce ideas off of. My inbox and phone is always open to you no matter what! Keep doing amazing things and I hope to see all of you again very soon!

Until Next Time,

Tyler Kearns

Daniel Scarborough, Perimeter Division LTG Hey, ya’ll! My name is Daniel Scarborough, and I’m very excited to be serving as your Perimeter Lieutenant Governor this year. I’m a senior at Georgia Tech studying electrical engineering, and I’ve been in Circle K for the past two and a half years. I’ve had a blast volunteering at countless amazing service projects, and I’ve gotten to meet some incredible people from all around Georgia who care deeply about serving their communities. I truly found my college home in Circle K, and I hope that I can help others have a great experience as well. I look forward to working with the clubs in my division to make it a great year of service and fellowship!

Division Updates: UGA has been regularly volunteering with City of Hope Athens, a nonprofit ministry that is dedicated to serving people in need throughout the Athens area by providing meals and other essential items. District Day of Service Recap BY: ERICA ZHENG

This year, District Day of Service (DDoS) took place in Augusta, GA on October 2nd. It was a warm and sunny day perfect for outdoor games and picnicking! Members from clubs across the Georgia District of Circle K International met up at a nearby park, where we had icebreakers both with the group at large and with smaller groups. Lunch consisted of

pinwheels of various flavors. After lunch, everyone headed over to the Augusta Habitat for Humanity ReStore. With so many hardworking hands on deck, the store was reorganized, cleaned out, and looked better than before. Everyone was exhausted afterwards - which makes sense given the great work we had just completed.

15

I hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time meeting other GACKI members and doing some good service. To those who were not able to attend: I hope you will consider joining us next time!

Fall Membership Retreat November 5-7, 2021

S'mores and Bonfire

Fall Membership Retreat BY: HYERAN PARK

On November 5th, the Georgia District Board hosted this year’s Fall Membership Retreat at the Georgia FFAFCCLA Center in Covington! Eight clubs in the district attended the event, as well as our Kiwanis Vice President, Darryl Gumz. During the 3-day weekend, 18

the event was full of service, fellowship, and leadership - all with the theme of "Busy Bees". It was amazing seeing everyone become closer to each other and bond. Our members worked hard during the off-site service project at Newton Trails where they collected piles of trash

and many, many tires. During group team activity times, teams got to compete against other teams in Mad Gab, Balloon Popping, and Poncho. They also got the chance to bond further with their group through vulnerability questions.

19

20

Members attended workshops hosted by the District Board members. We had the highest rating/review for the workshops in the recent years of the history of FMR! Overall, the event was a big success! Not only did members make an impact on the community, but they also built lasting friendships.

24 - Tips for Members and Clubs

Build Up Your Website BY: JORDON MOSES

Looking for a way to keep your club members and club visitors up to date on club events and information? Considering using a website. A nicely-taken-care-of website can help attract great attention that can help your club to grow.

Here are tips to keep your website looking professional

and usable. Keep things updated. Change in leadership or new meeting time? Be sure to update your website with that information so things are easy to understand for visitors.

Don’t be afraid to change things up. Your website is a reflection of your club, and if its style has been unchanged for years, then it may not reflect your current club. Think about adding different layouts and colors to make it pop.

People like pictures. Too many words can bore people. Add art or videos to your website to make things interesting for visitors.

Always be reachable. On your website, there should be a way to get in contact with officers or advisors in the club. Be sure to reply quickly to those correspondences.

Keep things organized. A good website is easy to navigate. Using properly named pages and putting the correct information on each page make things easy to find.

Don’t neglect spell check. Writing is not that easy… that’s why we all need someone to proofread our work and make sure we’ve written properly. Don’t forget to go over any changes made to the website to make sure there are no writing errors before posting.

Check your website's phone view. Websites look different on phone and computer so be sure to make sure it looks professional on both devices.

Need a website? There are many website builders out there that will make it easy to make a website for your club. Ones such as Wix, Squarespace, and or GoDaddy can help you make a nice and professionallooking website. There are plenty of resources online that provide tutorials on how to make a visually-stunning website. Always feel free to reach out to the District Webmaster Jordon Moses at

webmaster@georgiacirclek.org for help.

25 - Tips for Members and Clubs

Fundraising Ideas BY: WENDY YAO

Virtual Fundraisers: Fundraising Dares Create tiers for amounts of money fundraised that correspond to dares for your club’s board or members to do! Examples of tiers: $50 – board members do karaoke to songs chosen by sponsors $100 – live-streamed art challenges $200 – egg roulette where players take turns cracking eggs on their head with half the eggs being hardboiled and the other half raw Virtual Raffle Sell raffle tickets virtually and announce winners via a video call or social media post! Prizes can include both goods such as gift baskets and experiences such as movie tickets. Prize ideas include: Club merch or discounts to district events Gift cards to local restaurants Tickets to events and concerts on campus or in the local area How-To Lessons Have members with interesting skills or hobbies, such as knitting or painting, lead a session either online or in-person with a registration fee that includes the cost of materials for participants! If there is continued interest, consider offering intermediate-level classes. Partnering with other organizations on campus is a great way to offer more options and increase participation and interest.

26 - Tips for Members and Clubs

In-Person Fundraisers: Restaurant Fundraisers Many local and chain restaurants offer percentage nights or allow digital fundraisers so that your club gets a percentage of their sales! Tips: Check with fast-food restaurants on or near campus like Panda Express, Chick-filA, and Chipotle. Restaurants often require customers to show a flyer or QR code for their order to count, so plan ahead for advertising and distributing flyers. Many restaurants now count sales from pickup orders along with dine-ins toward the fundraiser, but be sure to confirm. Gift Wrapping Fundraiser Closer to the holiday season, stores like Barnes & Noble have the option for shoppers to get their gifts wrapped by volunteers and leave a tip/donation! Tips: Schedule ahead of time to reserve a time and day that works well for your club. Be ready to talk about Circle K and what you are fundraising for. This fundraiser can also be done on campus instead of at a store. Bake/Drink Sale Make baked goods like cupcakes or drinks like bubble tea to sell on campus! Tips: Your school may have guidelines regarding food safety and sanitation, so be sure to confirm that food sales are allowed. Warm drinks like hot cocoa or tea are especially nice during the colder months and easily customizable with different flavors and add-ons. Having themed food items linked to holidays or events on campus can be a great way to increase sales.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

27 - Tips for Members and Clubs

Social Media To-do's for Your Club BY: JESSICA CRUZ

Using social media is one of the best ways to advertise your CKI events and engage club members. Here are some tips I learned that I hope you can use for your own page.

1. USE MULTIPLE PLATFORMS! Some people prefer Instagram, others prefer Facebook, some prefer Twitter. To make sure you reach all of your intended audience, use more than one platform! It’s not too difficult to manage, especially since Facebook automatically reposts your Instagram posts if they are linked together.

2. CREATE A LINKTREE! Linktree is a site where you can gather all your links together. It’s free, it’s convenient, and it's easily manageable. An awesome feature is the analytics and insights you see for every time a person clicks on each link. With this feature, for instance, I’m able to see how many people have read the Kronicle!

Linktree is especially important to have if your club has a website, application links, event signups, etc. so that you don’t have to constantly change your biography. Plus, it makes your page look more professional.

3. PROMOTE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA AT CIRCLE K EVENTS! Promote your club’s social media handles at every CKI event! It’s especially important when there are new attendees. Nearly everyone uses social media, so by promoting it and posting about every event, your club is ought to increase in participation.

Follow us on our socials! Reach out!

Words from our Kiwanis Governor

Hello Georgia Circle K,

I am Byron Mullican, Governor for the Georgia District of Kiwanis International for 2021-22. It is my honor to serve this year with our great District with many leaders in Kiwanis clubs and our Student Leadership Programs. As most of you know, Georgia District is respected throughout Kiwanis International and Circle K is the leader in our SLP’s. It is such an honor to have both Circle K and Key Club Kiwanis International Vice Presidents this year along with KI Vice President Katrina Baranko.

I have been in Kiwanis for 12 years, first serving in the Kiwanis Club of Brooklet and for the past year and a half with the Kiwanis Club of Tattnall County. My wife Susan and I live in Statesboro and I have a daughter in Richmond, Va. I spent 9 years in the US Army as a Military Policeman and then served in the US Postal Service where I retired with 36 years of service.

My Governor pin says, “IF not US, WHO!” This is to say if not for Kiwanis WHO will serve our communities, Georgia, and the world? Service is our mission and each of our organizations does wonderful jobs serving the best they can. I know how hard each of you works with organizing, governing, and making a difference in this world. Remember to have fun as you go about this service.

My goal for this year is to concentrate on membership and service. To encourage all clubs to attempt to get back to “normal” operations in a safe manner. Each of our organizations in our Kiwanis family needs more serving hearts which will make our organization stronger. Best wishes for a great year.

“Hello, my name is Vyom Shah and I am serving as the fundraising chair for the UGA Circle K International. This is my 4th year as a part of this organization and my 3rd being on the executive board, and I could not ask for a more supportive and rewarding group to be a part of. What I really love about the club is the people who get to help on the weekly basis. We partner up with local organizations throughout the Athens community to serve underrepresented individuals and special groups in and around the Athens- Clarke county. I was fortunate to grow with all the resources provided by both of my parents but living in Athens for 4 years taught that a large population cannot and does not live like that, so I love giving back as much as I can. Circle K gives me opportunities and a community of students and faculty to support these individuals.”

“I love Circle K because it gives me an opportunity to network with like-minded people who care about giving back to their community. I especially appreciate the international service aspect such as The Wash Project which partners with UNICEF to provide clean drinking water to children in underdeveloped regions.” Mykia Conyers University of West Georgia
