Well, I hope you all had a great Fourth of July, and that Beef was a big part of your celebration. It’s always a great time to celebrate living in the greatest country on earth – and to know that Beef is a big part of that celebration!

I know that a lot of the state has gotten some rain; that takes a lot of pressure off our industry and the people in it who are trying to raise beef or any other agricultural commodity. Let’s hope that it continues, or that if you haven’t gotten any rain, hopefully you will soon.

By the time you read this, the Cattlemen’s Connection Quarterly meeting will already have been held in Bartow County. Hopefully, this event was of great value to everyone; we will all learn from it and try to make each one better than the last one. If you have any suggestions, please let one of the members of the Board of Directors or your Region VP know, so that it may be considered for future events. The next Cattlemen’s Connection will be held in Moultrie on Sept. 22, so watch for details about this event in the Georgia Cattleman or on Facebook.

I know that everyone is busy this time of the year with hay, working cattle, or just vacation time – but please try to come to these events if possible. You might pick up ideas to use at home, or just the connections that you make with fellow cattlemen can become valuable later on; you never know.

Also, we have a new staff member: Shelby Kirton, who is the new Organizational Coordinator. Shelby has an impressive background in the cattle industry as well as an excellent educational background; I look forward to the many great things that she will add to our association. When you see Shelby, please welcome her aboard!

If you have any questions, concerns or ideas, please let me or one of the Board of Directors know. In the meantime, as of this writing, our membership is almost 300 ahead of last year; so if you have neighbors or friends who aren’t GCA members, please explain the benefits of being a member and ask them to join!

Until next time,
