Since Georgetown University was founded in 1789, our location in the global capital city of Washington, D.C. — the intersection of business, government, and international relations — has provided access to leading business executives and global thought leaders. Over time, we have developed unrivaled relationships to the business, government, policy, and diplomatic communities in the city. On our campus, you will find opportunities to engage with our numerous research centers, graduate students within the business school and across the university, as well as with world leaders and business executives who we regularly host on campus.

At Georgetown McDonough, we believe that business has no borders, which is why we prepare students to become globally-minded leaders by providing a depth of opportunities as only Georgetown can. EMBA students work on a real-life international consulting project, a global capstone project, and collaborate with our EMBA Dubai students on a joint team assignment. Beyond this, professors integrate global case studies into the classroom, and our diverse global community includes faculty, staff, and students with different backgrounds and viewpoints.

As the nation’s oldest Catholic, Jesuit university, Georgetown and the McDonough School of Business embrace a values-based approach to education. Here you will find a collaborative culture, with a focus on cura personalis, or care of the whole person. Lead the Way with an Executive MBA Tailored to You Success in business—whether in the United States or around the world—requires a deep understanding of both business fundamentals and the policies that influence them. Our dynamic EMBA curriculum is characterized by an interdisciplinary focus that brings to life the intersection of business and policy found in Washington, D.C. To keep pace with the changing nature of global business, the school continually updates its elective offerings and allows you to customize your experience with the choice of 11 electives throughout the 21-month program. In the first year, the core curriculum presents a common understanding of fundamental business theory and practice. Classes like accounting, management, and marketing challenge students to master the cross functions of traditional business practice before diving into advanced courses in year two. Students also complete the Structure of Global Industries residency to take an in-depth exploration of the intersection of business and policy. During the second-year advanced business courses, students learn how to think as business leaders through core courses on the foundations of business and public policy, global political economy, and strategic advocacy for business. Then students select the topics of their remaining electives and the innovative Global Capstone Project. Electives vary based on the composition of the cohort, faculty recommendations, and key business issues.

looked at several EMBA programs, but what struck me as “ Imost unique about the Georgetown EMBA program was the deep sense of community, camaraderie, and support among the cohort members I interviewed with. I was part of an incredibly collaborative cohort that remains close today. I found myself strategizing with members of my cohort about new business ventures after the entrepreneurship residency and continuing conversations with alumni and faculty about ideas for new products long after graduation. No matter which cohort you’re in, EMBA students share a vested interest in ensuring one another’s success and wellbeing, and a commitment to understanding how business can have a positive impact on society.

”

AJ Jensen, EMBA Alumna Vice President, McAllister & Quinn

EMBA program gave me a more holistic perspective “ The on my company’s business objectives and the downstream impact we have on shareholders. It’s easy to become myopic as career paths become more specialized – Georgetown helped me see the bigger picture which has had a positive impact on my career.

On-Campus Residencies Through five experiences — three domestic and two international — you will be immersed in real-life business projects, apply knowledge learned in the classroom to a specific organization or industry, and better understand the skills needed to advance your firm or to start your own business.

Opening Residency: Problem Solving and Communications

This introduction to the program provides an in-depth, live case experience, focused on ethical business decision-making and teamwork. Students apply a high-level view of finance, marketing, strategy, and other fundamental business areas to global companies facing real challenges in today’s competitive international marketplace.

Structure of Global Industries

This on-campus experience offers an integrated framework to study and practice concepts in international trade and investment, trade policy, economic growth, and monetary and fiscal policy. Teaching and learning in this on-campus residency takes place partly through lectures and principally through practicums supported by team meetings. The practicums require original, creative work by the teams of students who create a business, determine the locations of production and markets, and recommend adjustments to shocks in the business environment.

New Business Ventures

Transform a promising corporate innovation opportunity into an innovation venture concept proposal, and launch it as a new innovation concept. Learn the key steps in the venture creation process, including customer discovery, feasibility analysis, product development, marketing and internal stakeholder support, and fundraising.

EMBA has been a great asset for my career – “Georgetown’s certainly the in-class instruction was high quality and builds out practical skills for the workplace. However, beyond that was developing a network of new colleagues and friends, as well as gaining a better understanding of different industries and issues, which yields from two years of conversations, cases, and the global perspective of Georgetown.

”

Blake Barfield, EMBA Alumnus Director, Stakeholder Strategy Atmos Energy

Global Experiences Global Business Experience In this signature Georgetown McDonough experience, student consulting teams work together to solve pressing business problems facing foreign organizations and Fortune 500 companies with operations overseas. At the end of the course, the cohort travels abroad to the client’s facilities to present recommendations to senior leadership.

gave me the knowledge and confidence to start my own business. The network has been amazing. As a founder raising capital, I’ve been able to reach out to Georgetown alumni and others who are affiliated with the university for advice and they have always responded with kindness and practical advice that has moved me forward.

Global Capstone Experience: Issues for Industries Worldwide

Incorporating all components of the program, student teams study the impact of globalization at the country, industry, and firm levels. With the guidance of a faculty advisor, teams will travel to different parts of the world to conduct field research on a particular country, region, industry, and corporation and produce a research paper that highlights opportunities and challenges on particular topics of interest. To complete the experience teams highlight their research in a final presentation to the Georgetown McDonough community.

Select Projects • China Manufacturing Supply Shift (Vietnam) • Eyeglass Social Enterprise (Tanzania) • FARC Coffee Business Strategies (Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea) • Non-Payment Business Solutions (Greece) • Renewable Energy Innovations with Blockchain Technology (Switzerland) • Smart Cities (Copenhagen, Denmark, Seoul, South Korea, and Singapore) • Urban Pollution Sustainability (Copenhagen, Denmark and Naples, Italy) • Urban Waste Business Solutions (Beirut, Lebanon)

working abroad in the Middle East and Europe “ After for much of my career, the EMBA program marked a turning point in my journey, providing resources to navigate the evolving landscape of my industry and seize new opportunities. The program served as the catalyst for my return to the United States and lit my entrepreneurial spirit. Georgetown equipped me with meticulously structured guidance and a mindset focused on what is achievable. It empowered me to embrace calculated risks, identify blind spots, and elevate my thinking in terms of innovation and creativity.
