It was presented Tuesday, January 21, at the annual Founders Day Convocation officially opening the spring academic term. In remarks before students, faculty and staff, Dr. Rosemary Allen, Provost and Academic Dean, cited Dr. Cooper’s “quiet competence” and “extraordinary capacity to think carefully about academic matters as he serves in high stakes positions” on campus.. “He’s identified as someone with uncommon common sense,” she said. “One who sees through the muck and asks the clarifying question.”

As a teacher, Dr. Allen said this year’s Curry Award recipient is described as “challenging, influential and interesting,” someone who empowers students to take charge of their own learning, and who teaches how to think, not what to think.
