PAC Intensive Program

The George Junior Republic Preventative Aftercare (PAC) Intensive Program is structured to provide services to at-risk children/youth and their families in the home, school, and community and tailored to meet the needs of each client's social, emotional, behavioral, and educational well-being.

Intensive, in-home supports are implemented through regular contact with the client, families, schools, and other systems involved in the client's life to collaboratively address identified treatment and behavioral needs and create sustainable plans. In addition, these supports are designed to be mobile, bringing services to the family, thereby eliminating environmental and transportation barriers.

PROGRAM GOALS

Out-of-home placement prevention

Provide reintegration and aftercare services following residential placement

Enhance family structure and function

Support incarcerated parents' relationship with their children and parenting skills

Improve school attendance and performance

Increase problem-solving ability and identify natural resources

Reduce family dependency on outside systems, such as OCYF, JPO

Reduce or eliminate juvenile recidivism

SERVICES

Youth-specific services

Weekly individual counseling is offered following a needs assessment and treatment planning for social, behavioral, emotional, and academic/vocational needs

Family-specific services

Weekly family counseling is offered in the home and community to enhance communication and problemsolving and improve family functioning.

Parent-specific services

Weekly psychoeducational sessions are offered in the home or community to enhance parenting, coping, limit-setting, and positive discipline skills.

School-specific services

Frequent contact with school staff to monitor behavior, attendance, and performance; PAC Mental Health Professionals/Workers also participate in all school meetings.

Other systems collaboration

PAC Mental Health Professionals/Workers maintain contact with other systems involved with the family.

TREATMENT

The GJR PAC Intensive program offers mobile, familyfocused services that provide structure, supervision, and support to maintain children and youth in their homes and avoid higher care levels. PAC Mental Health Professionals/Workers develop safety and crisis plans with families and case management services to assist families in identifying additional resources and natural supports.

Evidence-based practice

PAC Mental Health Professionals/Workers are trained in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) along with using Cognitive Behavior Therapy principles. PAC also partners with specified county juvenile probation departments and Penn State’s Evidence-based Prevention and Intervention Support (EPIS) Standardized Program Evaluation Protocol (SPEP) Implementation Specialists

REFERRALS & INTAKE

The Office of Children and Youth Services, Juvenile Probation Departments, and schools (depending on the county contract) make referrals.

The GJR PAC Intensive program accepts clients from birth to 20 years of age (depending upon county contract)

The average length of service is 3 to 9 months (depending upon county contract).
