WELCOME TO GEORGE BROWNS Agricultural machinery specialist

Let me introduce myself, I’m James Gibbins, the Group Sales Manager (Agriculture) at George Browns. I’ve clocked up 15 years with the business, starting my journey as an apprentice in the Leighton Buzzard workshop. This hands-on experience has been a cornerstone in my current role, providing me with a deep understanding of the challenges and time constraints faced on the frontline. I’ve delved into the mechanical intricacies of our machinery, cultivating a well-rounded understanding of the relationships between parts, service, and sales. This knowledge equips me to tailor the best solutions for our customers. In 2014, I shifted gears into sales, driven by the passion for connecting with customers throughout their buying journey. Based out of the Chesham depot, I covered the eastern region, spanning from Buckingham in the north to High Wycombe in the south – and loved every minute.

In 2021, a significant opportunity arose, propelling me into the role of Group Sales Manager, a position I wholeheartedly embrace. Collaborating with an amazing portfolio of manufacturers such as Kubota, Merlo, Kverneland and others is truly inspiring. My vision in this role is clear – to elevate the sales of our key suppliers to new heights and demonstrate that Kubota will be the leading supplier of the future. This ambition hinges on the synergy of a robust, reliable sales team, coupled with a service department and parts department working seamlessly in unison. Watch this space – Kubota is poised to be a dominant force in our sales territory!

A Brief Outline

Difference between the M7 Generations 2016 – M7131, M7151, M7171 with power outputs of 130,150 and 170hp. Respective power boost of 20hp. All models powered by a turbo 6.1litre four cylinder engine with SCR emission controls. Compliant to Stage IV. Standard factory warranty 2 Years/2000Hours up to 5Yr/5000Hr as a cost option. 2019 – Stage IVb compliant M7132,M7152 and M7172. Detail changes to include reduced noise in-cab noise. 2020 – Stage V engines. Renames M7133,M7153 and M7173 but the same outputs. Upgrades include Express restart with brake to neutral, Multispeed steering with selectable reduced turns lock to lock and TIM tractor implement management on M7173 KVT. Standard warranty remains but 5 Year option sees and increase to 6000 Hours. Used Availability Although the first M7 tractor became available in late 2015, sales in the UK and Ireland start in earnest from early 2016. The traditional Kubota customer base had tended to see the company’s M135GX, which incidentally has a similar wheelbase to the M7,beingas large as they would need, so it took time for customers more familiar with higher powered models from other makes to consider an ‘Orange’ model in the 130 – 170hp power bracket.

4

As to pricing, an entry level M7131 Access would have retailed around £87,000 in 2016 a range topping M7171 KVT nearer £125,000. That was strong money back then.although finance packages helped, it took a while for users to cotton on to the fact that a Kubota tractor comes with a 5 year warranty. If the tractor is dealer serviced at the required 500hr intervals, any balance of the warranty can be passed on the the next owner. Add this to M7 models providing dependable performers and new tractors sales started to gain momentum and with it the pool of used examples are now relatively healthy. NOVEMBER

Summary This is easy, Kubota M7 tractors are generally well engineered tractors that can deliver good performance as a used buy. These models have no standout major problems. If these is a downside it is that many users expect these tractors to do what Kubota models are well know for; to keep going with little in the way of TLC. Dealers suggest a number of M7 tractors that come in for a service often need to spend a lot of time in the wash bay before they are worked on. Cosmetic wounds are also not uncommon, the rear fenders deeming to be susceptible to damage. What the M7 appears not to mind however is hard work. Tractors that are worked hard tend to be less liable to suffer problems with the engine emission control system a point to note if you are looking at a loader equipped M7 for powerful yard duties. The tractor will need to be run for long hours periodically to help the emission system clean itself.

PE Mead - A Tradition of Quality

Hertfordshire grower PE Mead and Sons Ltd

From the 900-acre mixed farm at Wilstone in the Chiltern Hills, sixth generation farmers and cousins Chris and Simon Mead, operate an extensive farm shop and farmhouse kitchen that is filled with locally sourced produce. “Our fathers started the farm shop in 1968,” explains Chris. “Back then, it was just a stall at the side of the road, to sell our produce to passing customers. When Simon and I took over the running of the farm in the 1990’s, there was opportunity to grow the shop.” “We’ve got a great relationship with Browns, which is why we now have three Kubota M7 tractors on the farm,” says Chris. “We like to be treated the same way our customers do – it’s a high standard, but we believe customer service and care is essential.” Chris says the farm bought its first Kubota, an M7-131, four years ago under the security of a five-year, 3,000-hour warranty. “Now with 3,000 hours on the clock, it’s proved totally reliable,” he says. “And on the back of its performance, we’ve since added an M7-172 KVT and more recently, an M7153 with a loader and front linkage.”

“While we do have two telehandlers, it’s also handy to have a loader on a tractor, Moving to rotational ploughing has also eased the workload, and also reduced our reliance on a high-horsepower tractor,” he says. “The toughest work is with a Simba DTX deep leg cultivator, which the M7-172 pulls really well on most of our ground. On the really heavy land, we could do with a bit more muscle, which is where our more powerful 235hp tractor comes in handy. While we don’t really need 235hp, we do have this occasional requirement for a bit more than 175hp,” he says. “And I would definitely have an all-Kubota fleet if there was a 200-210hp tractor in the range.” He says the simplicity and efficiency of the M7 range makes it a fuss-free choice. “These tractors do pretty much everything we ask of them,” he says. “It’s easy to cab-hop, and the four-cylinder engine does perform really well. And little things like the economy pto helps to get more fuel efficiency on those jobs like raking and tedding, when you don’t need maximum power.”
