INSPIRING FUTURES

WELCOME TO OUR SPRING NEWSLETTER
As we start 2026 I am pleased to reflect on the hard work and efforts of our teams over the Winter period. I am pleased to be able to share so many examples of our collective efforts and achievements at this early stage in the year and am looking forward to embarking on another year of growth and success together.
This season saw Hullerhill awarded the honour of the British Aggregates Association’s “Quarry of the Year” accolade. This marks our third consecutive win following Northfield and Tams Loup. This achievement provides independent recognition of the safety, quality, and professionalism that underpin our operations and gives our customers confidence in the consistency and reliability of our supply.
We have also continued to strengthen our business to support customers across our regions. The name change from Middleton Aggregates to Tillicoultry Quarries (EA) Ltd will align the East Anglia business more closely with the wider Tillicoultry Quarries family.
Our people remain at the heart of everything we do. Ongoing investment in training, apprenticeships, and professional development, alongside a strong culture of continuous improvement, ensures our teams are well equipped to deliver safe, efficient and dependable service, even through the challenges that winter can bring.
As we move into Spring, our focus remains on building long-term partnerships, maintaining the highest standards, and continuing to support the communities in which we operate.
We are also looking forward to the launch of several enhanced products across the business. These developments reflect our continued investment in innovation and quality and are designed to meet evolving market requirements while maintaining the high standards our customers expect. Watch this space.
Thank you for your continued confidence in Tillicoultry Quarries.
Kind regards, Wallace Menzies

Middleton Aggregates to Operate as
TILLICOULTRY QUARRIES (EA) LTD.
Tillicoultry Quarries is pleased to announce Middleton Aggregates Limited changed its registered business name to Tillicoultry Quarries (EA) Ltd, aligning the East Anglia business more closely with the wider Tillicoultry Quarries Family.
The name change took effect on 2nd February 2026, establishing a clear and consistent identity across our East Anglia operations.
Wallace Menzies, Director of Tillicoultry Quarries, commented:
“Middleton Aggregates is a well-established business with strong local relationships and an excellent team. Operating under the Tillicoultry Quarries (EA) Ltd. name brings brand clarity while allowing the business to continue serving the region as it does today. We are committed to maintaining the service levels we are renowned for and supporting the construction activity that East Anglia depends on.”

HULLERHILL WINS QUARRY OF THE YEAR
We are thrilled to announce that Hullerhill has been named “Quarry of the Year” at the 2025 British Aggregates Association (BAA) Conference, marking our third consecutive win following successes at Northfield and Tams Loup.
The BAA’s “Quarry of the Year” award forms part of its respected Assessed Operating Standards (AOS) Scheme, which provides third-party accreditation for member quarries and evaluates how effectively sites are managed and operated.
Key factors in our win include, exemplary AOS performance confirming our compliance and our ability to combine high production standards with a zerocompromise approach to safety. Hullerhill Quarry’s recognition reflects its consistent commitment to these high standards, highlighting the team’s dedication to safe operations, strong leadership, and professional excellence.
Brian Woods, General Manager at Hullerhill, commented;
“At Tillicoultry Quarries, operating excellence isn’t a set of rules, it’s central to who we are. Our philosophy, led from the top down, ensures that every person on site has the training, tools, and support they need to work with confidence. This award shows that the culture we’ve built truly works, and it inspires us to keep raising the bar.”
Hullerhill Quarry’s recognition as BAA’s “Quarry of the Year” is more than an award, but a reflection of Tillicoultry Quarries’ core values of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement across our teams in Scotland, North East England and East Anglia. We are immensely proud of our team and remain committed to being a benchmark for safety and excellence in the quarrying industry.

WELCOMING ANNA TURLEY TO MIDDLESBROUGH
Team TQ were delighted to welcome Anna Turley, MP for Redcar last Autumn.
The visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the important work our team is doing here in Teesside; from supplying vital materials that support local construction and infrastructure, to providing skilled jobs and training opportunities for the community.
Anna’s engagement and interest in understanding the role our industry plays in both the local economy and the wider region was greatly valued by our team. Open
conversations like this help us highlight the challenges and opportunities facing the quarrying and construction materials sector, while ensuring that the voices of businesses and employees are heard at Westminster.
We’d like to thank Anna for taking the time to visit and for her commitment to supporting local industry. We look forward to continuing to work together to promote growth, investment, and sustainability across the North East.

MINISTERIAL VISIT TO TAMS LOUP QUARRY
Tillicoultry Quarries was pleased to welcome Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Public Finance, to Tams Loup Quarry on 18th February. The visit was organised through the Mineral Products Association (MPA) Scotland, of which Tillicoultry Quarries is a member, and was also attended by officials from the Scottish Government and Revenue Scotland.
The visit provided an important opportunity for the Minister to engage directly with industry representatives ahead of the introduction of the Scottish Aggregates Tax (SAT) in April this year. Discussions enabled Tillicoultry Quarries and MPA Scotland to outline key industry perspectives, including concerns around any potential future increases to the current tax rate, crossborder policy considerations and the need to address compliance challenges.
Tams Loup Quarry provided the ideal setting for the visit, allowing the Minister to see first-hand the work being undertaken by Tillicoultry Quarries and the wider aggregates sector to maximise the use of recycled
materials. The visit also gave the sector an opportunity to highlight the practical challenges around recycled aggregate, including limitations in availability and suitability for certain construction applications.
We welcomed the opportunity to host the visit and to contribute to constructive discussions on the future of the aggregates sector in Scotland. Continued engagement between government and industry will be essential to ensure policy supports both sustainable practices and the delivery of vital infrastructure and construction projects across the country.

KELSEY CAMPBELL’S CAREER JOURNEY
At Tillicoultry Quarries, we always take pride in supporting colleagues as they grow, develop, and take on new challenges across the business.
We’re delighted to spotlight Kelsey Campbell, whose journey from the Tulliallan Front Office to Credit Control showcases her dedication, adaptability, and drive to continually succeed in strengthening her career across the business and furthering operational excellence at TQ.
A Strong Start in the Front Office
Kelsey began her career at Tulliallan Front Office, where she quickly immersed herself in the day-today operations and developed a solid foundation of industry knowledge. During this time, she achieved her SVQ in Weighbridge Operations and completed a three-day internal auditing course, both of which strengthened her understanding of processes, systems, and customer interaction.
These early accomplishments not only demonstrated her eagerness to learn but also helped prepare her for future opportunities within the company.
A Seamless Transition to Credit Control
When the opportunity arose to move into the Credit Control team, Kelsey embraced the challenge with optimism and determination.
In her own words:
“Moving from Tulliallan Front Office to Credit Control was a big achievement for me. I learned so much in my time in the front office, including completing my SVQ in Weighbridge Operations and attending a three-day internal auditing course. Transitioning to Credit Control was a welcome challenge, with the skills I gained early in my career helped make the move seamless. The support from my colleagues has been invaluable.”
Kelsey’s ability to adapt to a new department, one that plays a crucial role in the financial stability of the business, is a testament to her strong work ethic and willingness to develop new skills.
Advice to Women Looking to Enter the Industry
Kelsey also offered her advice to young women who have not considered roles in the industry:
“There is a misconception aggregates is solely a male
dominated industry. There are so many diverse roles available in every department, to suit all interests. The opportunity to gain experience across different departments is encouraged. I’m testament to how beneficial that is.”
Looking Ahead
Kelsey’s career path is a great example of the opportunities available within Tillicoultry Quarries for those who are motivated and ready to take the next step. We’re proud of her achievements and look forward to seeing her continue to thrive in her role, and at TQ.
Thank you, Kelsey, for your hard work, dedication, and the enthusiasm you bring to our team.

INCREDIBLE SPORTSPEOPLE FLYING THE FLAG FOR TQ
JANE BARR
Tillicoultry Quarries is proud to support local talent, and few athletes demonstrate commitment, strength, and determination quite like Jane Barr of Velocity 44. At this year’s British Gravel Championships in Suffolk, Jane delivered an outstanding performance, securing a brilliant bronze medal on one of the fastest and most technical gravel courses in the UK.
Returning to the short, sharp circuits of King’s Forest, the British Gravel Championships brought together elite riders from across the country. The Women’s race was tightly contested from the outset, with intense pacing, tactical riding, and a blistering run-in to the finish.
Amid fierce competition, Alloa’s own Jane Barr showed her trademark resilience and race intelligence. In a thrilling final sprint, she powered across the line to claim third place, securing the final podium position and adding another impressive result to her growing list of achievements.
Jane’s bronze medal not only highlights her talent but also her consistency at the top end of British gravel racing.

BLAIR MCMILLAN
At Tillicoultry Quarries, we’re proud to back our team members both on and off the job. That’s why we’re excited to announce our sponsorship of Blair McMillan, one of our ADR bitumen drivers and a passionate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) competitor.

We’re proud to stand behind Blair as he takes on new challenges and demonstrates the same determination and discipline that make him an asset to our team.
Stay tuned for updates on Blair’s competitions and achievements throughout the year.

IAIN INNES
We were delighted to receive an incredible update from Iain Innes, an athlete we are proud to support, as he wraps up a successful summer season in the Alps.
Over the past few months, Iain has taken on some of Europe’s toughest vertical and skyrunning races, earning impressive results across the board.
Alongside racing, he’s tackled a series of high-alpine adventures, including his season highlight; a full traverse of the historic Voie Royale route to Mont Blanc. A 12-hour push combining endurance, technical
climbing, and flight before launching his ultralight wing and paragliding all the way back to the valley.
We’re also proud to congratulate him on being accepted into the Young Alpinist Group, an elite threeyear programme supporting the next generation of alpinists through training, mentoring, and expedition development. A fantastic achievement.
As he heads back to the Alps for the start of ski season, including GB Skimo Team training, we’re so proud to continue supporting Iain’s journey and achievements so far.

Please join us in congratulating Shaun, Ian and Michael on their hard work and well-deserved success.
SUGGESTION BOX SUCCESS
We’ve had some incredible team suggestions this season. We are delighted to recognise Barry, Paul, Ross and Lewis for their intelligent solves and making a difference.

BARRY MCGUIRE, MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR AT NORTHFIELD
Barry suggested fitting portholes to the Superior crusher, a simple yet effective modification that allows operators to clear chokes more safely and efficiently. This enhancement reduces downtime, improves visibility during maintenance, and most importantly, strengthens our commitment to workplace safety.

ROSS BISHOP, SITE OPERATIVE AT MIDDLESBROUGH ASPHALT PLANT
Ross identified a great improvement for our site operations, fitting numbered bay badges (1–13) to each bay.
This simple but effective idea ensures clear instructions can be given by the weighbridge to delivery drivers on arrival, helping to eliminate any risk of incorrect material being tipped and improving overall site efficiency and safety.

PAUL MCMAHON, ELECTRICIAN AT NORTHFIELD
Paul proposed changes to site access that will make day-to-day operations more time-efficient and costeffective for the business. By streamlining access, we can reduce delays, improve workflow, and ultimately save resources — benefits that will have a positive impact across the company.

LEWIS CAMPBELL, QUARRY OPERATIVE AT NORTHFIELD
Lewis proposed introducing a lock-off and isolation bolt for the air supply to the screening plant doors. This simple yet effective solution creates safer working conditions for anyone working inside or below the bins. By placing a metal bolt around the air supply point, the system can be securely closed and locked, reducing risk and improving operational safety.
Lewis’s suggestion not only enhances protection for our team but also demonstrates how proactive thinking can lead to meaningful improvements across our sites.
SCHOOL OUTREACH PROGRAM
FORTH VALLEY COLLEGE OPEN EVENING
In November, we were delighted to attend the Forth Valley College Open Evening, an event designed to help young people and their families explore career opportunities and pathways into employment.
Representing TQ were Craig and Dionne, who engaged with students and parents to discuss the different routes into the construction industry, including apprenticeships, trainee roles, and career development opportunities. The event provided a valuable platform for young people to ask questions and gain insight into what employers look for, while parents were able to support their children in making informed decisions about their future.
Craig and Dionne highlighted the wide range of roles available at Tillicoultry Quarries — from operational positions to technical and professional careers — and explained what candidates can expect when joining our team. They also spoke with individuals considering a career change, demonstrating that construction offers opportunities for people at all stages of life.
Events like this are essential for bridging the gap between education and employment. By engaging directly with students and parents, we help demystify the recruitment process and showcase the exciting prospects within our industry.
Tillicoultry Quarries remains committed to supporting local education initiatives and inspiring the next generation of talent. We look forward to continuing these conversations and welcoming new faces into our growing team.

DOLLAR ACADEMY FUTURES FAIR
The team were also proud to take part in the Dollar Academy Futures Fair, an event designed to help students explore career opportunities and plan for their future.
The fair brought together students aged 12 to 17, giving them the chance to learn about a wide range of industries and professions. Graeme and Dionne showcased the diverse career paths available within our wider business ans sector.
Our team highlighted the many routes into construction, from apprenticeships and vocational training to professional roles in engineering, logistics, and management. We also discussed the skills and qualifications needed for different positions, helping students understand how they can build a rewarding career in this dynamic industry.
Events like the Futures Fair are a fantastic opportunity to engage with young people, answer their questions, and inspire them to consider careers they may not have thought about before. At Tillicoultry Quarries, we believe in investing in the next generation and showing them that construction offers exciting, varied, and secure job opportunities.
We’re committed to continuing our involvement in community and education initiatives, helping students gain insight into the world of work and encouraging them to develop the skills that will shape the future of our industry.

STAYING SAFE: WHY QUARRIES ARE NOT PLAYGROUNDS
While we’re always happy to show students our sites safely during supervised visits, it’s vital to remember that quarries are not safe places to explore. Trespassing on quarry sites can be extremely dangerous. Steep drops, deep water, and heavy machinery pose serious risks, even when a site looks quiet or unused.
We work closely with local schools and communities to raise awareness of these dangers and to encourage everyone to stay safe by keeping out of quarries unless part of an organised visit.
The safety of our communities is always our top priority, and we regularly visit schools near our sites to educate young people on the dangers of entering quarries unsupervised.
GET IN TOUCH TO ARRANGE A VISIT
We attend careers fairs and community events throughout the year to talk directly with students, parents, and teachers.
Our team members share insights into the wide range of roles at Tillicoultry Quarries — from plant operators and HGV drivers to environmental officers, engineers, and business professionals.
We believe in investing in people and developing skills that last a lifetime. By engaging with young people early, we can help them see how rewarding and diverse a career in our industry can be.
Get in touch with CHunter@tillicoultryquarries.com if you have a school in mind that would benefit.

From collaborating with the customer to select a more suitable concrete for the hot ambient temperatures, to ensuring everything ran smoothly on site, the team pulled together to deliver great results.
A special mention goes to Brian Martin, our driver on the day, who went above and beyond to assist with the pour. On smaller, busier sites, challenges with space and coordination are common, but Brian’s professionalism and hands-on approach made all the difference.
