I’m not superstitious, but the spiritual metaphor God’s light sheds on our lives is not lost on my little Ikea miracle that refuses (okay, knock on wood) to dim. I bought this JANSJÖ desk lamp over ten years ago, and it’s endured a handful of office moves, survived its share of tumbles with the grace of a seasoned acrobat, and continues shining a nice focused lightbeam late into the night. But aside from the astounding longevity of the irreplaceable bulb, the real story is my lamp’s sentimental value because of the man who once used it.

Larry Lederman was the Sherlock Holmes of grammatical errors, the Hercule Poirot of spelling mistakes. Armed with a red pen and an unrelenting dedication to the written word, he would drop

STEPHEN KAMIFUJI CREATIVE DIRECTOR’S NOTE

by our office, ready to sniff out any grammatical transgressions in our printed GENLUX magazine proofs. He’d strategically position the lamp, its flexible neck bending to Larry’s every whim. He’d embark on his mission in that pool of light, marking up paragraphs with a surgeon’s precision, exorcising any linguistic demons that dared to lurk in the text. And now, as I sit at my desk, basking in the steady glow of that same lamp, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia. It’s more than just a piece of furniture; it’s a conduit to the past, a vessel carrying the echoes of Larry’s meticulous editorial spirit. Sadly, Larry passed on this day seven years ago, but his memory continues to shine every time I turn on my nine-dollar and ninety-fivecent “Larry” lamp.

ON OUR COVER:

With seven Emmys, two Tonys, an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, plus countless other accolades, actress Allison Janney is by far the most decorated actress to grace our cover. This one was photographed by uberphotographer Marc Baptiste, who, only hours prior, was dutifully shooting a campaign in Paris. He arrived at LAX at 1am, or a scant 9 hours before our call time, and, though understandably beat, brought his inimitable charisma and energy.

During my interview with Allison, I learned about her crippling social anxiety and fears —our shoot notwithstanding (p90) . Janney’s latest endeavor, “Palm Royale,” is set to premiere on Apple TV+ next week, and from the snippets unveiled in the trailer, it appears destined to be a side-splitting sensation. Betting dollars to doughnuts, it’s likely another Emmy for Allison.

Stars Align for Sara

SARA SHALA’S NEW COLLECTION FINDS ITS NORTH STAR.

For nearly 17 years, Sara Shala’s odyssey through the disciplines of styling, PR , and technical design for various jewerly brands converged into a singular destiny—crafting her successful eponymous collection. Her core belief threads through her journey: “Jewelry is the element that completes the look.”

Based in the heart of Tribeca, she unfolds a narrative of passion, resilience, and creative evolution. Her aesthetic is imbued with strong design principles and organic allure, reflecting her childhood career desire to be an architect. Timelessness is her collection’s hallmark, adorned with modern and elegant nuances that ebb and flow with mood and occasion.

Beyond the atelier, Sara’s benevolent heart beats for causes close to her soul, particularly those championing the well-being of children. As a beacon of support for “Hope for Children,” she sits on the senior advisory board, passionately advocating for protecting the rights of the young.

Away from designing jewelry, Sara finds solace in traveling, tennis, hikes, her meditative yoga practice and occassional yoga retreats—the catalysts for her creative alchemy that help shape her creations.

Sara’s favorite getaway? “There is no particular place,” she shares, adding, “well, as long as it’s a peaceful, sunny environment where I can play tennis daily.”

Gratitude radiates from Sara as she reels off the A-list celebs who wear her pieces and whose talents she appreciates, “Viola Davis, Kate Hudson, Taylor Swift, Marisa Tomei, Naomi Watts, Cynthia Nixon, and many more.”

The spotlight shines on Sara’s latest opus. “I call it the North Star,” she reflects. “Because, like the North Star, it symbolizes stability and purpose—that’s also my resolution for this year.”

If you lived in LA during the 80s, Cristina Ferrare was your morning wake-up call when she co-hosted KABC’s A.M. Los Angeles with Steve Edwards. Before that, you knew her as the supermodel who stood by her then-husband, John DeLorean, during his televised 1984 drug trafficking trial. Though he was acquitted of all charges, irreparable damage was done to Cristina’s career and their marriage. Today, she’s modeling again and celebrating her 40th anniversary with Tony Thomopoulos. Cristina graciously navigates our Two-Word Interview. —Stephen Kamifuji

Your GPS? I’m sitting in our home office in Thousand Oaks.

You’re wearing? I’m going to be honest. For three days—morning to night— I’ve been in pajama bottoms, a T-shirt, and UGG slippers because I have a deadline on my e-cookbook, so I’ve been sitting here writing recipes.

Daily routine? I’m up at five o’clock in the morning. I go for my three-mile walk in the morning. I stop around six in the evening.

Bullying memories? I was a pretty little girl, and the kids would tease me. They left me out of everything and would call me names, making fun of my Italian heritage. In sports, I was always the last to get picked. I remember one party where I slipped and fell on the floor. Before I knew it, this boy, Garvin, stood over me with a couple of other boys and just started yelling at me. I thought I’ll take it in. I’ll swallow it. It’ll hurt for a minute, but I will never let anybody affect me that way. I mean, ever.

Model tribe? During my modeling days, I worked with Cheryl Tiegs, Lauren Hutton, Christie Brinkley, Brooke Shields, Pat Cleveland—who worked with Halston a lot, and Dayle Haddon. I love her. I was very fortunate. When I started in the 60s and went on through to the 80s, I got to work with the finest designers that ever lived.

What photographers? I worked with Irving Penn, Victor Skrebneski, and when I was under contract with Max Factor, Albert Watson. I was scared to death of Richard Avedon ’cause he was Avedon! I kept looking into his lens, thinking, my God, here I am in front of Avedon’s lens. It

was very surreal. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, so who knew I would end up doing what I’ve done throughout my lifetime— ever.

Met Ball? Yes! There’s a photo of me, Lauren Hutton, and Halston walking up the pink carpeted stairs. Diana Vreeland was the editor of Vogue back then. In other years, Bill Blass and Oscar de la Renta designed my gowns, and in the years I went to the Met Ball, I was on the cover of Women’s Wear Daily the following day.

house, he took all his things of me. And I said, well, that’s kinda creepy, and we started laughing. He showed me his work, and I said let’s shoot. It was the first time I stepped back in front of a camera in over 40 years. I loved what he did.

First agent? When I was 14 years old, Nina Blanchard in LA signed me. I would work after school for two days a week because my mother wouldn’t allow interference with my schoolwork. I was making $30 an hour at 14. Since I wasn’t 16, they put it into a fund.

First contract? After high school, I was under contract to Max Factor, and Eileen Ford happened to see the ads and called Nina and said, who is this girl? She needs to be here in New York. So I flew to New York with my then-husband, Nick. He’s remained a very dear friend of mine all these years.

Ford experience? Eileen Ford was like a mother to all of us and loved me. We would go to her Long Island home on the weekends. She had this huge garden with basil everywhere, and we would make pesto before pesto was even a thing.

Photo angel? A few years ago, photographer/makeup artist Troy Jensen contacted me and said I was his muse when he was a child. He followed my career, and when he moved out of the

Model redux? I forgot how much I loved modeling that was suddenly ripped out from under me when my ex-husband, John DeLorean, was arrested for drug trafficking in 1982 [John was acquitted of all charges based on police entrapment]. The day following his arrest, Eileen called me to say, Christina, I’m sorry, but all of your covers and all the contracts have been canceled. At the height of my career, it ended overnight.

Current agency? I’m with Iconic Focus Models in New York. They have Dale Haddon, Marisa Berenson, Ali MacGraw, and Beverly Johnson. After deciding to get back into modeling, I called every agency, and nobody would answer me. My friend Susie called Lori Modugno, one of the owners at Iconic. Lori said she’d ask her partners about signing me. Three days passed, and they didn’t call, so I thought, okay, it wasn’t meant to be. I was out in the garden when Susie called and said, well, I talked to Lori, and she said to tell you that they would love to bring you home. I burst into tears and started crying like a baby.

Your husband? Tony and I first met in New York. At the time, I was married to John and modeling. ABC was switching things up at”Good Morning America” and looking for a model type

for their lighter stories. I had to meet Tony, who was president of ABC, to get his approval. So it’s middle of winter—a thousand degrees below zero. I get there, and the halls are very drafty, and I tell the receptionist I’m here to see Mr. Thomopoulos. She says he’s in a meeting; we’ll call you shortly. So I sat down, and whenever somebody opened the door, my hair would fly everywhere. Oh, I was so pissed. I was getting ready to leave when she said, Mr. Thomopoulos will see you now. So I went in, and he wasn’t in the office. Finally, he walks in and doesn’t say hello and doesn’t say, I’m so sorry to keep you waiting. No, instead, he picked up the phone and started talking. I told him I had reservations at 7, it’s now 7:30, and you’ve kept me waiting for over an hour. I hated him. I thought he was a pompous ass. He hated me and gave the job to Cheryl Tiegs. The next time we met was at a dinner for Aaron Spelling. After the dinner, he walked over to me and said, I saw you on the Barbara Walters interview. You did a really nice job defending your husband. I said thank you, and I couldn’t stop thinking about him. After I divorced John, one thing led to another, and I married Tony.

Your anniversary? It’ll be 40 years in April. Between Tony and I, we have seven children and eight grandkids. My daughter, Ariana, the youngest of the seven, is having a baby any minute.

Family time? Every Sunday, we have a family Zoom call for about an hour. Everybody knows Tony and I will be on and 9 out of 10 times, everyone is present.

Cancer battle? Seven years ago, I had multiple myeloma and was given two years to live. I

said that’s not gonna happen. I had stem cell replacement and was told I’d have to stay in the hospital for a month to build my immune system back, but after only two weeks, my doctor came in one morning and said, evidently, God is not finished with you yet, you can go home. I was so relieved I started to cry. Oh, I’m always crying. I’ve been in remission ever since. My hair fell out, and it came back stark white. So now my hair and Tony’s are white, and we’re like two Q-tips walking into a room. If not for Tony, I would not be here today. He gave up everything to take care of me.

Cosmetic enhancements? A little Botox, but I don’t do much. I don’t want to look like I’ve been done and look like the women with the same face.

Latest project? My new interactive cookbook, “My Model Kitchen.” Modeling and cooking have been my whole life and passion, so I told the publisher the cover should look like the cover of a fashion magazine. I’m excited because my online books have videos. Let’s say you go to my recipe for manna sauce; you’ll press the video, and I’ll show you how to make it. There’s also an AI component—my little sous chef. If you have a question about how, say, do you clean the clams? The AI Chef will answer.

Apocalypse prep? My garage is like an Italian deli. I have every pasta lined up according to the size of the noodle. All my cans of beans are color-coordinated. We’ll be fine if we were shut in here for four months.

Charity work? I volunteer with Safe Passages in Thousand Oaks, where we feed the people in the area. I support my friend Maria Shriver and her Alzheimer’s movement. It’s near and dear to me and Maria because her father passed from Alzheimer’s, as did my mother. Also, the Multiple Myeloma Foundation.

Forgiveness lesson? I had a falling out with a friend. We hadn’t spoken for about three years. I heard she was sick and immediately called to say if there’s anything I can do for you, let me know and I’ll be there. If I did anything to hurt you, I’m asking you to forgive me. After saying that, I felt a relief—like an energy coming out of my chest. From that moment, I haven’t been angry at anybody. Sometimes, God puts things in your life to help you see things.

Binging Swans? I watched it [“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”] until the part where they were having lunch at La Côte Basque. I can’t watch it because it reminds me too much of my life when John got into trouble, our friends all dropped us. One woman, Joanna Carson [Johnny Carson’s ex-wife], was very loving and loaned me money when I didn’t have money to buy food for my kids.

Retirement future? I’d love to live in Positano with just enough beautiful things around me. I wanna have a place in the back of the kitchen where I do my pottery, and I’m going to sip on espressos, smoke cigarettes, and walk around in my muumuu. That’s all I want. G

Our ‘One-to-Watch’ attention goes to So-Cal native and Julliard-educated actress Audrey Corsa for her nuanced performances as the determined lawyer Samantha Powell in “All Rise” and in the Apple TV+ series “Dear Edward” where she showcased her ability to tackle a complex character with sincerity. The 27-year-old star opens up for our Two-Word Interview. —Stephen Kamifuji

You’re wearing? Nothing fancy. A wrap dress that I altered myself, a denim jacket, and some Adidas sneakers. I’m comfort first!

Your background? I grew up in Santa Monica as an only child and attended Crossroads for high school. It was a wonderful little world and something I needed because middle school was rough for me.

Bullying memories? Yes, all through middle school! Some mean girls relentlessly bullied me because I started hanging out with a new group of friends. They would call at night and all be together and say nasty things. I remember my mom had to get on the phone to say, please stop calling her. They stopped calling, but they didn’t stop in school. It was constant psychological warfare—as girls often do.

Forgive them? Years later, my friend and I got back in touch because we were always very close and had the same numbers. My memories of the bullying came up. And she said, yeah, you mean when you broke up with me? And I was like, no, when you made my middle school experience a living hell. At that moment, we both felt sadness. I felt so much for that girl who’d felt broken up with, and she was like, I am so sorry I wasn’t able to look at it as bullying. I started to cry, and she hugged me. It was pretty beautiful.

Best friend? Vicki. We’ve known each other since we were one. She’s like my sister. When we were 7, we would play teenagers. We would have our flip phones— maybe her mom’s or something—and play 16-year-olds, and very specifically, 16. She’d be at the top of the stairs, and I’d be at the bottom, and we’d pretend

to be talking to our boyfriends on the phone.

Julliard experience? handful of us entered right out of high school. The good news was I was exposed to exciting work and immersed in the best of the best. The flip side is that Julliard should stick to being a grad school. When you’re 18, you barely know who you are. The 12-hour days, six-days-a-week schedule is too much—a culture that asks for burnout. When I first got in, I totally drank the Kool-Aid.

maybe he was kinder

kinda flat. It fell full ... pin drop ... flat. I remember Paul looking at me like, please leave. Oh, and then, I don’t know, maybe he was kinder than that, but in my mind, it suddenly was like someone poured cold water over my head. And I was like, I am so sorry, and walked away. For years, that was one of the thoughts that just lived rent-free in my head. It would like come back in, and I would have a physical reaction.

Your heritage? Irish, Scottish, French, German, Dutch, and Belgian. I like being Belgian the best because I heard they don’t have mental institutions. If anyone in the community is having a difficult time mentally or emotionally with nowhere to live, there are people who, for generations, have been taking these people in. They know how to be gentle and caring and loving with them. I’m drawn to those kinds of people.

Embarrasing moment? I was so excited because I’d just done my first off-Broadway play, and Meryl Streep and a bunch of actors came to see it. There was a fancy opening night after-party, so I borrowed a dress that looked great, and when I got there, people were taking my photo. I was like, wow, this is so cool. I went up to the bar, and when I turned to my left, Zoe Kazan was standing there. She’s such a fantastic actress, and the lore from my piano teacher was that she taught Zoe Kazan. So I was like, oh my God, here I am right next to her, and I have something to talk to her about. We have a great conversation, and as I walk away from that interaction, having finished my second drink and feeling on top of the world like I could talk to anyone in the room, I spotted her husband, actor Paul Dano, standing next to Broadway director Sam Gold. So, of course I needed to tell him his wife and I had the same piano teacher. In my mind, it sounded like a great idea, but not enough to interrupt their conversation. Excuse me, you won’t believe this, but your wife and I had the same piano teacher. And it fell, not

Your hood? I live in Santa Monica. I know all my cool friends my age live on the east side, but I love living near the beach.

Favorite animal? My cat Goblin. I spent New Year’s Eve with her this year. I went out to dinner with a friend and had the option to go to a big fancy party, but all I really wanted to do was go home and watch a movie and snuggle with my cat. She’ll hear my car coming into the driveway and be at the window.

Nightstand material? I’ve been reading a lot of Bell Hooks lately, and Chelsea Martin, who wrote a hilarious autobiographical short story series called Caca Dolce it’s so good.

Everyday style? Comfort and utility. I like a wrap dress or a really good pair of Levi’s and a long-sleeve turtleneck or an oversized sweater. Add sneakers or my cozy Doc loafers.

Relaxation time? I’m a big bubble bath person. I have a bath table, so I’ll read a book, watch a TV show, or have dinner. Goblin jumps up on the edge and smacks at the suds. I refill the hot with my feet, of course.

Charity affiliation? I love volunteering. It’s been such a gift to me. I work with the charity Feed the Streets, where we feed the unhoused community, and I volunteer every weekend at the Boys & Girls Club.

Your hobby? My latest is pottery. I fell in love with it. It’s so fun and therapeutic. When centering the clay, you must focus on how your body feels as you mold it. I’ve also recently discovered hand-building little dragons.

Character rework? I need to ease up on the perfectionist in my head. She’s subtly there in everything that I do. Even during this interview, I hear myself wanting to give you the right answers.

Physical change? I love myself the way I am, though I am removing my four tattoos.

5-year goal? I want to be doing meaningful work with people I admire, while always listening and learning. Maybe a partnership. I’m seeing somebody now. We’ll see where it goes. We’re like two feral dogs at opposite ends of the alley. We come to the middle and like smell each other and then run away, come back together, play a little bit, and then run away again.

The unstoppable force that is Allison Janney boasts an IMDB page longer than a marathon for her film, stage, and television roles, including the indomitable C.J. Cregg from The West Wing and her powerhouse Oscar-winning performance in I, Tonya. Surprising to most is Allison’s battle with social anxiety, where she’ll opt out of Hollywood’s biggest soirées to snuggle next to the security of her trio of hounds. Here, the winner of seven Emmys, two Tonys, a Golden Globe and more, dives into our GENLUX Two-Word Interview for a peek into her remarkable life! —Stephen Kamifuji

Your GPS? I’m sitting on my bed with the door closed because there are too many people in my house right now. I’ve got two friends staying from out of town for the premiere of Palm Royale, the show I did for Apple that premieres on March 20th. My bedroom is a completely chaotic mess of suitcases and clothing. I’ve just come home from doing a movie in Albuquerque and haven’t quite unpacked. Then, I have to pack again to leave for London on Friday to do the Netflix series of The Diplomat.

Your pets? I’ve got three rescue dogs. Two are a brother and sister that I rescued when I was doing the movie in Mississippi, and then I have Henry, a terrier poodle mix. Dogs are everything to me. I love and adore them.

Three blessings? My family, my animals, and my friends.

Everyday fashion? I’ll pair some Mother, Almo, or People jeans with a T-shirt, a cashmere sweater, or a comfortable jacket. I love cashmere.

Handbag contents? I’ve got a bag of puffed organic brown rice crunchy rollers, a Praxis mindfulness journal, headbands, and $162 in cash. I have an eyebrow pencil, CHANEL lipstick, and Augustinus Bader lip balm. I’ve got doTERRA supermint beadlet mints and Tide to-go wipes. I’ve got a little glass jar of crystals that my nephew’s wife gave me for good luck and keep me safe. I’ve got some contacts and some dry-eye release by Alcon.

Fashion memory? Oh, well, that has to be my mother’s mother, Sippy. Her friends called her a tall drink of water, and then she became a sip of water, and then her nickname became Sippy. And I just loved her fashion. She

would wear silk cigarette pants in beautiful colors like bright green, pink, or red. She’d have a Pucci-style silk shirt that would match the color of her pants, and she’d go to the beach in some fabulous one-piece bathing suit. And she was so tall and thin and always had a big straw hat with a ribbon around it. I thought she was divine.

Bullying moments? I was teased a lot because I was always the tallest person in the class. And so, people would say, how’s the weather up there? And all those slightly annoying things. But I didn’t feel bullied.

Favorite quote? I don’t know when I heard of this one, but to help my niece or nephew—if they’re going through anything or afraid to do something—I’ll say, “A hundred years, all new people.” Just get it done while you can; get it, do it.

Fan memory? One night, after doing Dolly Parton’s musical Nine to Five on Broadway, a fan presented me with a quilt she made with pictures of me from every project I’d done until then. I was so overwhelmed by it that I didn’t even know what to say. It was very thoughtful of her, and I never got to thank her.

Karaoke song? I’m not that great, but if I had to pick a song, it would be These Boots Are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra.

Funniest prank? I was staying at the La Montrose Hotel in WeHo when filming American Beauty. I was taking Tate Taylor to a movie opening, so he came to my hotel room to pick me up, and we sat there talking when the phone rang. It was the front desk guy, and I said, hey Manny, what’s

up? And he said, I’m sorry to tell you this, Allison, but we don’t allow male prostitutes here. As I was looking at Tate, I said, well ... okay. And then I said, I’m gonna have to give you to him, and I handed the phone to Tate. And he gets on the phone and goes, ‘Yep, I understand. Yeah, okay. Alright, thanks. Good enough.’ And he hangs up, and he looks at me, and he says, well, I’m sorry to tell you this, but I had to do some things when I first came out to L.A. that I’m not proud of them, but I needed to do them to make money to survive. And, at this point, as he’s saying this, I’m thinking, oh, my God, I can’t believe this hotel thinks I have to hire a male prostitute. But then, I go from that to getting all Norma Ray because I’m like, they can’t tell me who I can and can’t have in my hotel room! And I got up and said, I’m going down there to speak to him. I got all fired up and headed down the hallway. Then, right before I got to the elevator, Tate said, ‘Hey, Janney, April Fools! That’s just the first of many he’s played on me.

And then I said, I’m gon-

Strangest talent? I can make a galloping horse’s sound with my tongue.

Character change? I have so much anxiety and fear. I wish I could just have a little surgery to cut that out of me. I have a lot of social anxiety, and that just makes me dread ever doing anything socially. I think people would be surprised that I had that. It’s become more acute the older I’ve gotten. Maybe it’s because I feel people have certain expectations of me. When I did C.J. on The West Wing, people

thought I was this incredibly political woman with great opinions about everything. And I was like, I’m really not C.J., though I wish I were, so I started thinking, I’m going to disappoint people when they see I’m not that character. I feel like I’m not like many of the characters I play. People tend to judge me on being that person, making me feel very shy and insecure.

FOMO trait? Yeah, sure. After the fact, I wonder why I didn’t go. Usually, when I go and do things, even if I’m dreading them, I have a good time. But it’s almost insurmountable. I can’t do it. I can’t go. So, it makes things very difficult to do.

Photoshoot anxiety? Yes, of course, I was scared. I was like, oh God, I don’t feel very pretty and have a big scar on my face when I tripped over my dog and fell into my glasses. But I ended up feeling fantastic and glamorous, thanks to Lisa, Marc, and everybody there.

Physical change? I’ve always wished I was maybe three inches shorter and not tower above everyone. I remember distinctively being the tallest in third grade, and I can look at the class pictures, and I go, yep, there I am, in the back, in the middle. Tallest person. I’d wear a long skirt to school dances and bend my knees so I wouldn’t be so tall. Even on The West Wing, I remember wanting to be in my bare feet or slippers so I didn’t have to be in heels towering above everyone.

Heels or flats? I love a high heel and the way I look in them. However, not only do I feel self-conscious being taller than everyone, but I also have a foot injury from when I was 17, so I

Flower or gardener? I wanna be the flower! I am the flower! I wish I could find a gardener to take care of me—that’s what I want.

Oscar power? Getting an Oscar [Allison won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for I, Tonya ] was one of the highlights of my life, but it doesn’t make me feel any more empowered. Maybe it has given me more confidence. But it also doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ll keep winning Oscars. It was a great moment in my life, and I hope to have more now times when I’m nominated. But I don’t feel any more secure going to a party or anything.

Celeb friends? Octavia Spencer is one of my dear friends from when we both struggled to get work as actors. Melissa McCarthy is a good friend, too.

Your philanthropy? My heart is with animal organizations, especially one that my niece started called Amelia Air Rescue. It’s a wonderful organization that rescues animals from rural areas and brings them via airplane to pet adoption agencies. I donate to Best Friends, Planned Parenthood, and schools like Miami Valley School in Dayton, Ohio.

Spiritual path? We were raised Episcopalian, and I was confirmed. We would go to church on Easter Sunday and Christmas, but my parents didn’t go regularly. Now, I search for a spiritual connection to the universe to bring peace. I’ve got tons of crystals by my bed.

DIY skills? No, I wish I was good at fixing things and keeping anything alive. I’m terrible. I don’t have a green thumb. Like I said, I’m a flower. I’m not a gardener.

Career fear? Yes, every time I finish a job, oh my God, I’m never gonna work again. Having just finished a long-running show like Mom, going through a strike and not knowing what’s coming next is hard. That feeling doesn’t seem to ever go away for anybody. The goal is to enjoy the downtime and have faith that the next job will come.

Favorite getaway? My home. Seriously.

Superpower desire? If I could blink and be wherever I wanted to be. Suppose I wanted to be with my father in Ohio—Blink! I’d be there. Or if I wanted to be on a beach in St. Tropez—Blink! I’d be there.

Lou sequel? I hope that happens, but my phone hasn’t been ringing about that. I really enjoyed playing Lou. We left it open for a possible sequel. Let’s manifest that one.

What’s next? Well, The Diplomat on Netflix. I’m excited to join that cast in London. Then, I’m doing A Simple Favor 2 with director Paul Feig. I get to film in Rome and Capri, so that’s exciting. I’ll try to take advantage of my days off and sightsee, shop, and just eat pasta. G

Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!” It’s also about new beginnings and transformations. Time to trade the warm winter clothes for the lighter fabrics and cute patterned outfits. I’m going gaga over the gorgeous duotone polka-dot Balmain dresses embellished with fabric flowers. Huge trend alert! Be ready to see lots of dots moving around the city. The " TROUSER " is a staple for your Spring "Quiet Luxury" arsenal. I love these Brunello Cucinelli trousers because they have a slight sheen that glows in the perfect light and can look as elegant in the day as at night. Brunello Cucinelli pant, $2695, Neiman Marcus, Beverly Hills, 310-550-5900

SERIOUSLY, I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT...

THE KITTEN HEEL

"Quiet Luxury" is all about the kitten heel, and Gucci hits a home run with this little minx! Now, the crystals and logo take it a bit over the top, so this is a little louder luxury, but "HEY!!" Girls gotta live, right? I personally need some bling to survive, and this baby brings a smile to my face like no other!! $1150, gucci.com

PRADA REEDITION

This Prada bag is reimagined from 1995. The Italian-made white spazzolato leather medium tote can be worn two ways: by the top handles or with the strap added to carry the crossbody. Either way, this elegant piece has made a comeback from the 90s for good reason. Prada bag, $3800, prada.com

LUXURY CELEBRATING TIMELESS REFINED ELEGANCE.

Quiet luxury dressing embodies elegance through subtlety and refinement ... favoring understated sophistication over ostentatious displays. It's a style philosophy that emphasizes quality craftsmanship, impeccable tailoring, and timeless design. Instead of flashy logos or overt branding ... which for a label whore like me may be a bit hard to hold to. Quiet luxury celebrates subtle details and superior materials, which often involves investing

in pieces that exude effortless grace and can seamlessly transition from day to night, offering versatility without compromising on sophistication .... meaning quiet luxury can be a rather expensive adventure ... but remember, these will be pieces that will stay with you forever.

In a world where excess and extravagance often dominate fashion narratives, quiet luxury dressing stands out for its understated allure and timeless appeal. It's not about following fleeting trends but rather curating a wardrobe of enduring classics that withstand the test of time. I will show you a few of my favorite timeless classics that will be on point for many years to come!!

LA PERLA

Of course, "Quiet Luxury" MUST be represented over and "under,".... meaning our bras and panties must be pristine. My favorite luxury lingerie brand is always La Perla. Not

just because the prices scream luxury but because you can feel the difference when you wear them. The crispness of the whites and the fit is always perfect. The Zephyr Collection is my favorite, with rich floral embroidery and sheer panels that add precious accents to the contemporary lycra piece. $310, laperla.com

MY NUMERO UNO!

My top choice of "Quiet Luxury" is the Balmain Cardigan with heavy gold button-down buttons. The shoulder pads bring back that 80s statement of power and stance. Throw in the thick, luxurious viscose, and this piece is my favorite top by far to scream ... shhhhhh, I mean, whisper "Quiet Luxury." Balmain cardigan, $1840 Saks Fifth Avenue, Beverly Hills, 310-275-4211 P.S. One in every color ... whispers even louder!

Closet Cleanup!

This year, your Spring Cleaning might begin in the most neglected place in your home—your closet.

PURGE OFTEN

Purging regularly ensures that the items you bring into your dream dressing room are truly the pieces

you love and will wear! If something doesn’t fit or isn’t being worn, take action. Tailor it, donate it, or consign it!

SET THE STAGE

Create a staging area. Staging areas are great for keeping your closet organized! I like to design a dedicated spot for clients to hang new and incoming pieces, or to stage their looks. This ensures pieces don’t get lost in the closet, and makes getting dressed or packing for atrip

INVEST IN HANGERS

This is an easy way to in-

functional closet is without a doubt the valet rod. Every closet needs at least one, and if you have space, the more the merrier.

So we asked Lisa Adams , CEO of LA Closet Design (laclosetdesign.com), closets for clients like Christina Aguilera, Olivia Culpo, Reese Witherspoon, Tyra Banks, Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Monica Rose, and Chrishell Stause, to recommend her 10 Best Tips for organizing your wardrobe sanctuary. G

ORGANIZ

CUSTOMIZE DRAWERS

Outfitting drawers with appropriate compartments makes your life so much easier. You can find smaller items like jewelry, wallets, clutches, and matching socks SO much faster. Partitioning deeper drawers for folded tees, sweaters, and sweats means never having to dig.

GOTTA SEE IT TO WEAR IT

If you can’t see something in your closet, you won’t wear it. Easy access to everything in the closet has to be a top priority! This means having shelves that pull out so you can access the items in back, hanging rods that lower for an easier reach, and sliding ladders to make the upper areas of your closet more usable.

PROTECT VALUABLES

Often, accessories are the most valuable pieces in our closets, and they end up overlooked! Care for your designer bags with properly-sized purse pillows, and appropriate shelf heights, so nothing gets crushed or creased. Also, incorporate safes, watch winders, and suede jewelry inserts so all your valuables are well taken care of.

YOUR FAVORITE PLACE

HAVE A SYSTEM

I like to organize clients’ clothing by style and color, so finding the piece you’re looking for is always easy! Whatever your system is, stick to it.

LIGHT UP YOUR SPACE

I like to incorporate lots of lighting in the closet, both functional in-cabinet lighting and decorative fixtures. You want to be sure the temperature is correct, so you can distinguish the color of your clothes. Wherever possible, automated lighting is a great addition!

Make the closet a place you want to be. This means incorporating creature comforts like beverage stations, vanities, TVs, and seating areas. The more you take pride in your closet, the more you’ll want to be in the space, so the more incentive you’ll have to keep it organized!

Best Kept Spring Skin Secrets

Welcome to the official season of renewal. As your GENLUX aesthetician advisor, I’m pleased to share my picks for Spring’s best skin care secrets. - Ninka B

If using sunscreen is missing from your everyday self-care list, and I encourage you to start this new habit for endless skin benefits. While enjoying the sun’s heat creates

fresh, light, formulated with antioxidants and antibacterial properties. This product will give you “a little pick me up” in your midday therefore, have one in your purse! Ninka B. recommends: Caudalie Beauty Elixir Prep, Set, Glow Face Mist, $49, us.caudalie.com

3. COPPER PEPTIDES

Have you heard about Copper Peptides? They’re one of my favorite skincare ingredients, and amongst other buzz skincare words, they’re underrated, but deserve the spotlight. Copper peptides mimic naturally occurring peptides by reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity, and uneven skin texture and tone. Proven by science, this powerful ingredient will ensure youthNinka B. recommends: CRÈME DE LA COPPER DNA Repair + Copper Peptide, $130, neova.com

crease the Retinol in the hot summer months as it makes your skin more susceptible to sun damage. Retinol is essential in creating healthy skin because it boosts cell turnover, stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin. In return, the skin is glowing! Ninka B. recommends : ZO Skin Health WRINKLE + TEXTURE REPAIR, $159, zoskinhealth.com

4. DAY TIME FREE RADICAL PROTECTION

Now is a fantastic time to start using Vitamin C if you haven’t already. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant. Its primary purpose is to protect the skin against free radicals as they bounce off the unstable molecules. Also, Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis and lightening uneven pigment. It’s a must-have as we head into warmer weather. Ninka B. recommends: Sircuit Skin Weapon+ 10% vitamin C therapy serum, $85, sircuitskin.com

Wishing you a lovely Spring. I hope these little luxuries will add to your self-care. -Ninka B, GENLUX aesthetician advisor.

Her Secret Service BEAUTY GET THE LOOK

Makeup artist MARIE DELPRETE with Celestine Agency LA reveals how she glammed actress Allison Janney for our GENLUX cover shoot!

1. SKIN PREP

Prepping the skin is essential, and I always start with using a Gua Sha tool. I used nanocurrent and microcurrent facial toning ($399, zippbeauty. to tighten, sculpt, and contour Allison’s face. I Le Mieux Esto get some moisture-enhancing peptides into the skin, and Le Mieux Essence Moisturizer ($48, lemieuxskincare.com) to pack in some lightweight moisture and get that natural glow going. I love this product because it helps get a smoother finish with your concealer and foundation.

2. FACE

Last week, I posted photos of Elizabeth Chambers, the beautiful ex-wife of troubled actor Armie Hammer, on Instagram. Like a pesky mosquito, a nasty troll arrived and my knee-jerk reaction to delete the negativity proved a mistake. Like poking a hornet’s nest, the haters doubled down. So I killed them with kindness (or so I thought) by crafting a positive and well-deserved defense of Elizabeth. Another big mistake. That antagonized the haters further, and their garrulous posts intensified. So I waved the white flag (oh, wait, is this an offensive term in 2022?) and moved on.

Another celeb who fends off her fair share of social media mayhem is our lovely and talented cover girl Katharine McPhee Foster. When Kat, 38, married David Foster, 72, their age disparity became troll fodder for days. But who can blame her? What other septuagenarian sports the coolness, charisma, and clout of a David Foster? Kat’s sparkly story showcases some of her new KMF Jewelry collection via photographer Robert Lynden’s stunning photos and chic styling by Coco DiGiaimo (p76).

Allison has beautiful skin, so I used iT Cosmetics CC Cream in Medium for a lightweight coverage to reinforce a glow but not cloud her skin with a heavy base, keeping it light and fresh. Then, I use Cle De Peau Beaute Concealer in Ivory cledepeaubeaute.com) to brighten her eyes and highlight her cheekbones. I used Hourglass Vanish Blush Stick in Sacred ($46, hourglasscosmetics.com) to give a flush of color to her checks.

In the summer of 2020, I was fortunate to work with legendary lensman Douglas Kirkland at his home studio in the Hollywood Hills. It was the first and only time that we devoted an entire GENLUX issue to one photographer. In it, Douglas shot four fabulous women—Beverly Johnson, Linda Collins, Monica Fonseca, and Mosh—and we featured many of Douglas’s iconic photos of Marilyn, Brigitte Bardot, Cher, Coco Chanel, Elle Fanning, Judy Garland, and Audrey Hepburn. The highlight of the shoots—aside from watching Douglas’s childlike heart open up when he was behind the lens—was sitting down to enjoy his wife Françoise’s delicious home-cooked lunches. Sadly, earlier this month, at the age of 88, Douglas Kirkland passed away of natural causes at his home. May he forever rest in peace.
