With a focus on supporting students to be work ready and future-focussed, the College has developed an online Skills Portfolio. The Skills Portfolio is an online hub that assists students to identify, track, monitor and upload evidence of the skills they have acquired during the schooling years. Skills are categorised into four different areas including:

• Work ready

• Future ready

• ‘The extra mile’

• Areas of excellence

The Skills Portfolio can be accessed through the Future Pathways intranet or through Student Café. Students in Years 10 and 11 now have access.

The benefit of the Skills Portfolio is that is allows students to record and store evidence of skills, but also visually identifies areas which perhaps require further attention.

Looking for a job?

Use the Skills Portfolio to stand out from the crowd by providing a prospective employer a summary copy of your portfolio.

Short Courses and Micro-credentialling Opportunities

Additionally, if students are looking to upskill in an area or gain additional qualifications/credentials, we have developed a partnership with Australian Online Courses. These courses are self-managed and selffunded and additional to a student’s workload. Students in Year 10 and 11 are encouraged to take a look as there are courses which focus on a diverse range of skills. The College has secured a 15% discount on all course fees. Please use the code genesis23 to obtain this discount.

Students will be assisted in navigating and accessing the Skills Portfolio during Personal Development lessons.

At Genesis, we are committed to constantly evolving and improving the way we deliver communication and information to our families.

Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing some exciting new changes to the way you access and action information related to the College and your child/ren.

The first phase in this journey is the introduction of Single Sign On (SSO). SSO will make your login experience with Parent Lounge, the new APP and My School Connect completely seamless – no more remembering multiple passwords.

SSO for the currently App and Parent Lounge launched Thursday, 17 Aug. Keep an eye on your inbox for an email with a link to set up your account. This will replace the need for you to use and remember your parent code and password and will reduce the number of times you have to login.

You will be able to login to Parent Lounge using one of the following four identity providers: Google, Microsoft, Apple and Facebook, provided that the email address with the provider matches the one we have on record for you.

If you currently have one email address registered with us, then you will have one login account that you will need to share with your spouse/partner if applicable. If you have provided an email address within the Email 1 (Mother) and Email 2 (Father) fields, then both email addresses will receive their own login account. To check or update the email address/es on file for your family, please log in to Parent Lounge and update your email as soon as possible.

If you have any questions about SSO or need help updating your email address, please contact the Parent Lounge Helpdesk.

Did you – or do you know – a student who finished Year 12 in 2013 or 2003? If so, please share our upcoming Alumni Reunions!

Genesis Rowing has had an extremely successful Term 2, with excellent number medals being won at the Conference Trophy Regatta. Particularly pleasing to see is the development and success of our younger rowers and hopefully this will lead onto further success in the future. Last weekend the squad took part in the South Queensland Schools Rowing Regatta and came away with 3 golds and 1 bronze medal. This is a fantastic result and proves that the early mornings and hard work are paying off. A special thankyou to the coaches and parents that are encouraging and supporting the Genesis Rowing squad. Family Friday Pancake Breakfast:

The Family Friday Pancake Breakfast is has fast become a much-loved tradition at Genesis. More than 300 pancakes were served to early risers who braved a chilly morning in favour of a delicious breakfast and community connection.

Following the breakfast, families joined together for a short time of worship in Oasis Church.

Thanks goes to our P&F Association for hosting the breakfast, the many volunteers who came and served and our Pastoral Care team for putting together a wonderful worship service. Family Friday will be back again next term.

Youth Sports Stars Breakfast:

The energy was electric at our inaugural Youth Sports Stars Breakfast earlier this month!

Hosted by Genesis, this event brought together schools from across Moreton Bay for a morning of camaraderie and inspiration as students heard the incredible stories of some of Queensland’s brightest sporting stars.

Genesis students, including participants in our STEEP program attended the event which was held at Norths Leagues Club.

Paralympian Blake Cochrane (OAM) set the stage for an unforgettable morning as our MC. Students then heard from world champion Iron Woman Courtney Hancock, Queensland Reds Ryan Smith, Queensland Firebirds Lara Dunkley, and Former Australian Boomer Matthew Hodgson.

A highlight of the morning was the coveted game of captain ball where some lucky students had the chance to join a team with one of the sporting stars and battle it out for bragging rights (and some chocolate)!

The morning concluded with a Question-and-Answer session and a special opportunity for students to meet each of the stars, take some photos and get some autographs.

The event would not have been possible without our sponsors including Best Wilson Buckley Family Law, Norths Leagues Club Kallangur, Moreton Bay Regional Council (inc. Mayor Peter Flannery, Cr Yvonne Barlow, Cr Mick Gillam, and Cr Cath Tonks) and Peter Dutton. Thanks also to Genesis Sports and Aquatics and Vorgee for their donation of lucky door prizes.

The event was a wonderful display of community and a great celebration of sport in our region. We are already looking forward to next year!

The Great Genesis Picnic:

What an incredible day we had at The Great Genesis Picnic! It was GREAT to see so many Genesis families come together as a community for an afternoon of great food, great music, and great community connection.

Hosted by the Genesis P&F Association, the event featured performances by Emerge Youth Band, Ethan Beer, and Dan Warlow. There was also lots of fun to be had on the inflatables and in the animal farm.

The highlight of the event was The Great Race, which saw students, parents and teachers come together for some friendly competition.

The heats saw Team Alex claim victory – twice, but they were pipped at the post in a contentious finale event. The teachers joined in the fun for the final and battled it out against the students. After a fierce contest it was Team Jake who took home the trophy… and some goodies from our friends at GYG Warner.

Big thanks to our Hospitality students who prepared more than 500 delicious meals on the day and of course to the Genesis P&F Association all their efforts in planning the picnic.
