It is with great enthusiasm that we invite you to our pens at the Midland Bull Test “Final Sort” Angus bull sale. We have assembled what feel may be our best pen of powerful, functional, data driven performance-tested bulls for your appraisal. Please join us in person in Columbus, Mont., or online at CCI.live on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Our goal has been the same since the beginning -– to produce performance-tested bulls and females that will accelerate and thrive in commercial and seedstock producers’ herds.
DNA data and genomic information have been collected for 17 years. We use extensive embryo transfer to grow and make rapid genetic improvement. Cattle must be sound, structurally correct with eye appeal. We believe in great cow families; females must have strong maternal traits, longevity and a docile temperament. With this mindset, consistency and function is bred deep into the pedigrees.
This year, we celebrate 25 years of performance testing and our twelfth year of testing bulls at the granddaddy of bull tests — the Midland Bull Test. Since then, we are proud to have tested over 175 bulls with more than 92 percent making the “Final Sort”. At Midland in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2023 and again in 2025 we had the champion weight per day of age bull for their respective groups, and in 2016, we produced the high indexing and best RFI (Residual Feed Intake) bull. In 2018, Deppe Angus produced the World Champion Pen of Bulls. 2020 and 2024, we produced runner-up World Champion Pens. This year, we are honored to have produced the Champion Sire Group.
In addition to these awards, our family junior members also consigned the Champion Junior bull over all breeds in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2024 and 2025.
The Midland Bull Test has provided us the opportunity to objectively test our top bulls against more than 200 different breeding programs representing 32 states each year. The data on the bulls is used to help drive decisions that impact the development of our cow herd. When push comes to shove, the cows make the difference. Many full and maternal sisters to these bulls make up the future of our program.
The development of these bulls on a high-rough ration allows them to maintain their body condition and structural integrity in the breeding pasture. These bulls will hold up regardless of the environment presented to them.
