It is with great excitement that WACPC presents the 2023 Year In Review program!
As I reflect on the 2022-2023 season, I see the many highs and lows we have all experienced together. It brings to mind so many quotes from icons current and past, but one that we can all probably most relate to is the words of Winston Churchill, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal - it is the courage to continue that counts.” The measure of success and failure is different for all of our cheer and dance teams, as well as our organization. The rollercoaster of our season, the commitment to excel, it all takes a toll that can be heavy at times. As Henry Ford once said, “Failure is an opportunity to begin again”. From the tough moments of our respective experiences this year comes the chance to grow and improve. To push through and face the challenge. Mickey Rooney echoed that we must ”pass failure along our way to success”. As teams across the state close out their season and start to plan for the future, it is our hope all will celebrate the “wins’’ of the season - not necessarily the trophies, but the triumph of individual and team progression. Rejoice and appreciate the sacrifices made, and the hard work put in. Savor the relationships forged among your team and across the state. Each season is a journey, and it is along that path where we find our true success. Looking forward to the 2023-2024 season, the board of directors and committee members are fast at work in their planning. As an organization we will be learning from our own failures and experiences. It is our commitment to bring forward to our members better experiences in the coming year. We are working to collect constructive feedback via the committee surveys, website idea/feedback form, and through individual communications directed to our representatives. This spring and summer the Board of Directors and various committees will be meeting to make decisions and set goals for the coming season. Among those goals:
• WACPC’s Fall Coaches and Captains Conference will return to the Wilderness, Wisconsin Dells on the weekend of November 17th - 19th, 2023; with plans already underway!
• WACPC’s cheer and dance committees continue to increase their commitment to education, as a part of our focus on the association’s mission statement. And in addition will be evaluating all processes and functions of our championship events.
• Membership registration will open July 1st, 2023 and we encourage members to take advantage of benefits for the coming season by registering early!
As we do every year, WACPC encourages our members to keep connected by reviewing Board of Director Minutes posted to our website following meetings; to connect with your district and at large representatives, or utilize the website’s idea/feedback form that is on the homepage of our website.
As we close the chapter on the 2022-2023 season, it is a time to recognize those who have given so selflessly. WACPC is grateful to have so many board members and committee members who were willing to sacrifice their personal and family time to serve our members through the year. Each has been selfless in their efforts to help!
As this publication reaches our members, we hope it is to find everyone in good spirits and excited for what the future holds!
Sincerely,
Carrie Luedtke, President Wisconsin Association of Cheer & Pom Coaches, Inc.
Excitement filled the air at the Wilderness Lodge Convention Center as athletes and coaches from throughout the state attended a sold out WACPC Fall Conference in November 2022. The theme, We’ve Got Spirit, resonated throughout the conference with new classes, opportunities and recognitions. In addition, familiar faces brought back popular educational experiences.
The conference kicked off on Friday evening with a Coaches Welcome Reception. On Saturday morning, foregoing a keynote address, attendees were introduced to the line-up of speakers and jumped right into workshops. Twentytwo presenters from throughout the country offered their expertise on a wide range of topics. Action workshops included conditioning programs, cheer and dance technique, tumbling and yoga. New classroom workshop topics included Diversity and Inclusion, Dealing with Performance Anxiety, Preventing Athlete Abuse, Rebounding from an Injury, Pep Rally Ideas, Fan Camp, Team Culture, and Mindfulness. In preparation for other WACPC activities, workshops were presented on Creating All State Cheer and Dance Performances as well as focus on the various elements of Cheer Game Day Routines.
Our Saturday luncheon included Inductions into the WACPC Hall of Fame, Cheer and Dance Coaches of the Year recognitions, and Cheer and Dance Sportsmanship award winner acknowledgements. Following lunch, our annual Cheer and Dance coaches roundtables were held along with new High School and Middle School Athlete roundtable updates.
In addition to a number of sponsors, vendors and college booths offering special sales and information, three new opportunities were popular: Robb Webb Studio Images Photo Shoots, the Continuing Education Program sponsored by Concordia University to allow coaches to earn CEU’s and discounted NDCA memberships.
The Fall Conference Committee thanks our numerous sponsors, vendors, and the UW Eau Claire and Stevens Point cheer teams for their action class assistance.

The nomination letters sent truly demonstrated Tina’s commitment to the four pillars of WACPC’s mission which has been abbreviated as E=MC squared. Success equals education, motivation, collaboration, and celebration. Tina’s experience with her team demonstrates all these qualities. She is constantly on a quest to learn and grow and to help all her athletes to grow.
Tina stays in touch with trends and other information and skills needed to be a top notch coach, but especially works hard to educate her athletes not only in the sport of cheer, but in the art of living as demonstrated by these quotes:
Tina insists that her cheerleaders engage with the local community, participating in Stars and Stripes Honor Flights, representing at the annual Dan Mattes Memorial Golf Outing benefit, as well numerous activities for children.
She also is a strong motivator, creating a safe place for her athletes and acknowledging strengths while giving empathetic and beneficial feedback to help each of them grow and succeed. Each feels recognized as individuals. One nominator described this coach as a positive female influence who sets her cheerleaders on a solid path to be strong, successful, compassionate, hardworking women who lead and give back.
Tina also demonstrates the quality of collaboration not only through her work with her cheerleaders, but with her administration, her athletes’ parents, and with the community. She has also been collaborative with her state coaches’ association, WACPC, serving as a board and committee member.
Celebration obviously includes competitive accomplishments, but it also is quite apparent that this team and their coach celebrate each other’s differences, contributions to the team, and the relationships they have been building as they work together.
These are just some of the reasons and examples that demonstrate why Tina Zamjahn has been selected as the WACPC Cheer Coach of the Year—Congratulations!
The nomination letters sent truly demonstrated Jackie’s commitment to the four pillars of WACPC’s mission which has been abbreviated as E=MC squared. Success equals education, motivation, collaboration, and celebration. Jackie’s experience with her team demonstrates all these qualities. According to one nominator, even though she is a very invested mom and nurse, she has made these dancers her priority.
Jackie stays in touch with trends and other information and skills needed to be a top notch coach, but especially works hard to educate her dancers not only in the art of dance, but in the art of living as demonstrated by these quotes:
“In the first two years on Jackie’s team, I learned more skills than I had the previous five years. (She) also has taught important life skills…like holding ourselves accountable, speaking up for ourselves, how to cope with difficulty, how to increase selfconfidence, and that hard work is worth it.”
She also is a strong motivator, creating a safe place for her dancers and acknowledging strengths while giving empathetic and beneficial feedback to help each of them grow and succeed. Each feels recognized as individuals. One nominator described this coach as having “the perfect balance of understanding, support, challenges, advice, and trust.”
Jackie also demonstrates the quality of collaboration not only through her work with her dancers, but with her administration, her dancers’ parents, and with the community, having established a community service committee and has been active with the local JDRF Walk, the Walk to End Lupus, Tri 4 School events, and more.
Celebration obviously includes competitive accomplishments, but it also is quite apparent that this team and their coach celebrate each other’s differences, contributions to the team, and the relationships they have been building as they work together.
These are just some of the reasons and examples that demonstrate why Jackie Rehberg has been selected as the WACPC Dance Coach of the Year—Congratulations!

• Provide educational opportunities for the development of cheer and dance coaching skills.
• Provide resources for cheer and dance coaches increasing motivation for personal development.
• Develop guidelines and recommendations for the improvement of cheer and dance programs providing opportunities for collaboration.
• Promote and recognize cheer and dance programs throughout the state of Wisconsin.
The WIAA and its member schools have recognized and endorsed the Wisconsin Association of Cheer and Pom Coaches as the organization aligned with school-based programs in the state since 2003.
Although a number of other non-school competitions are offered by profit-seeking interests, the WACPC provides competitions and education for cheer and dance teams that embrace the ideals of interscholastic activities.
WACPC Member Coaches should….
• Consistently uphold the integrity of the profession.
• Have thorough knowledge of the safety rules.
• Respect and support competing athletes, teams, coaches, competition administrators, and judges
• Actively use their influence to promote sportsmanship.
Coaching ethics means conforming to professional standards or moral conduct. Cheer and Dance coaches have a tremendous influence in the education of an athlete. Never place the value of winning above the value of instilling the highest ideals of character.
• Coaches should consistently uphold the integrity of the profession; strive to set an example of highest ethical and moral conduct.
• Coaches should have thorough knowledge of the safety rules.
• Competition administrators and judges shall have the respect and support of the coach. Public criticism of competing athletes, teams, coaches, competition administrators, or judges is unethical. Conduct that incites athletes or spectators against these personnel is unethical constructive criticism or concerns should be directed to the WACPC Board of Directors.
• Coaches shall actively use their influence to promote sportsmanship. While it is impossible for competition administrators or judges to monitor the ethical behavior of athletes, teams, or coaches, these rules exist on an honor system.
Examples of unethical coaching may be, but are not limited to:
• Using choreography from a camp, youtube, or other video sources in its entirety or in large sections.
• Displaying poor sportsmanship during or after the competition or awards.
• Using ineligible athletes.
• Failure to show proper respect during National Anthem or Pledge of Allegiance.
• Using social media to publicly criticize or bully individual athletes, entire teams, coaches, competition administrators, or judges.
