foreword WELCOME TO THE SEVENTH ANNUAL REVIEW Welcome to the seventh annual review of Business Engage / the 30% Club Southern Africa (30%CSA) and the 30% Club East Africa (30%CEA). Can we say we are still in the “new normal” or are we back to the “normal”? I suppose that very much depends on your environment and your perceptions. Certainly, we are still very much in the era of change, however I do think that some level of stability has arisen over 2021 compared with the previous year. Either way 2020 was another good year for Business Engage / 30% Club. Despite the current

The events continued on-line, not ideal but better than not having them at all. The positive aspect was the fact that we were able to engage presenters from across the African continent. I think the last event that we had encapsulates the events for the year. “Fill my Jug” solicited rave reviews. The Board MasterClass Series ended on a high with the latest cohort being a joint venture

with the Women Property Network sponsored by Liberty Two Degrees. Whilst they were delayed, we were still able to hold our graduation dinners / lunches which are always enjoyable. At the end of the year, I was fortunate to be able to conduct a number of one-on-one sessions with our members. These sessions were both fruitful and insightful allowing the members to convey what we were doing right and what, in their opinion we could improve on. It also allowed us to plan selectively for 2022. As can be imagined the uptake of new members slowed during the period under review. Interestingly, the interest shown in becoming a member did increase at the end of the year. We welcome all the new members. The one negative for the year, and we never like to end anything on a negative, was the fact that we could not hold our members dinner again. Hopefully this will be something

the previous year. Add to that the increase in the geographic footprint, increased nominations and an increase in the number of judges, then the results were very pleasing.
