The peace prize honors atomic bomb survivors advocating against nuclear weapons, while the economics prize reveals how inclusive institutions can drive prosperity. As Art Basel Miami Beach prepares for its December 6-8, 2024 return, the stage is set for one of the art world’s most anticipated gatherings, boasting an expanded gallery lineup, fresh curatorial talent, and a rich program of talks and large-scale installations. The fair reflects its vibrant home region, featuring strong representation from North, Central, and South America, which is deeply valued. At the same time, it attracts galleries from Asia, Africa, and Europe, creating a dynamic blend of global viewpoints. This year, 286 leading galleries from 38 countries and territories will participate, including 34 first-time exhibitors, presenting a diverse array of Modern and contemporary works across painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia art. Key sectors, such as Meridians – curated for the first time this year by Yasmil Raymond – will showcase monumental installations, while Positions and Nova put a spotlight on emerging and mid-career artists. Together, these elements make Art Basel Miami Beach a vibrant intersection of art, culture, and global trends. Arts and culture at the heart of development First Deputy Mayor of Paris – on holistic education, arts and culture knowledge and environmental awareness Patrick Bloche is a prominent French political figure who has committed his efforts to shaping the future of the Parisian youth through art, cultural initiatives and environmental education. Bloche, a dedicated public servant, has already enjoyed a fruitful career in the field of education and cultural projects, from a long-term position as the National Assembly deputy for nearly 20 years to the more recent post as the First Deputy Mayor of Paris to Mayor Anne Hidalgo. He explains that the field of education has always been his priority, as he served as Chair of the Education and Culture Committee, as well as made special arrangements to keep focus on educational programs in his new position. Bloche talks about his priorities in arts and culture education for the younger generation in Paris, emphasising the need for in-depth environmental awareness incorporated into study programs, and delineates the space for future changes in the French educational system.

Since its transformation in 2011, the seventh floor of Louis Vuitton’s Omotesando store, designed by architect Jun Aoki, has become a cultural landmark for contemporary art. Known as Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo, this exhibition space under the auspices of the Fondation Louis Vuitton’s "Hors-les-murs" program invites audiences to explore new artistic expressions. From showcasing artists like Yang Fudong and Jesu Rafael Soto from around the globe, Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo is committed to celebrating artistic diversity. The 24th GPHG Awards Celebrate Excellence in Watchmaking The Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) returned for its 24th edition, bringing together the world’s most celebrated watchmakers, industry leaders, and enthusiasts for a dazzling evening in Geneva. Hosted by renowned French actress Carole Bouquet, the event paid homage to the unparalleled artistry and innovation that define contemporary horology. The ceremony, held at Geneva’s iconic Théâtre du Léman, showcased the culmination of months of anticipation, as the GPHG Academy and the 2024 Jury, chaired by horological expert Nick Foulkes, awarded 21 prestigious prizes. Among the evening’s highlights was the presentation of the esteemed “Aiguille d’Or” Grand Prix, which represents the pinnacle of watchmaking excellence. This year, the honor went to IWC Schaffhausen for its Portugieser Eternal Calendar, a timepiece celebrated for its groundbreaking secular mechanism and moon phase accuracy, setting a new standard for horological ingenuity.

A Step Forward for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage!

JAPAN'S SAKE CULTURE SHINES AT KURA MASTER 2024 83

The Kura Master 2024 awards ceremony for Japan's finest sake, authentic shochu, awamori, and umeshu took place on October 2 at the residence of the Japanese Ambassador to France. This year marked the 8th annual sake competition and the 4th for shochu and awamori. From a total of 1,223 entries, the President’s Award for sake went to “Shirayuki Daiginjo Itami Morohaku” (Konishi Brewery Co., Ltd., Hyogo Prefecture), while the top honor in the shochu and awamori category went to “Araoka Matsufuji” (Matsufuji Inc., Okinawa Prefecture). Additionally, the umeshu competition awarded the Grand Prize to “Umesake 8-nen Jukusei” (Eisen Shuzo Co., Ltd., Fukushima Prefecture) and the "Alliance Gastronomy" award for food pairing to “Tengumai Yamahai Jikomi Junmaishu” (Shata Shuzo Co., Ltd., Ishikawa Prefecture). The competition is organized by the Kura Master Executive Committee based in Paris. Now in its 8th year, this prestigious award promotes the excellence of Japanese sake culture in France and across Europe, serving as a significant bridge between Japanese sake and French culinary traditions.

フランス最高峰の日本酒、本格焼酎・泡盛、梅酒のコンクール、Kura Master の 2024 年度授賞式が 10 月 2 日、在フランス日本国大使公邸で開かれました。日本酒コンクールは第 8 回目、本格焼酎・泡盛コンクールは第 4 回目となる今回は、1223 銘柄の中から「超特撰白雪伊丹諸白大吟醸」（小西酒造＝兵庫県＝）、本格焼酎・泡盛コンクールでは 197 銘柄の中から「松藤粗濾過 44 度」（松藤＝沖縄県＝）がそれぞれ最高賞となるプレジデント賞を獲得。また、今年で 2 回目となる梅酒コンクールでは「UMESAKE 8 年熟成」（榮川酒造＝福島県＝）が最高賞となる審査員賞に、3 回目の食とのペアリングを評価する「アリアンスガストロノミー」賞には「天狗舞山廃仕込純米酒」（車多酒造＝石川県＝）が選ばれました。コンクールは、Kura Master 運営委員会（本部・パリ市）によって開催され、今年で 8 回目。その栄誉ある賞はフランス、さらには欧州各国へと日本の酒文化の秀逸を広げるとともに、日本の酒文化とフランスの食文化を融合させる大きな懸け橋となっています。

A CULINARY EMBASSY OF FRENCH TERROIR Loiseau de France, a newly opened bistro within the French Institute of Japan (IFJ) in Tokyo, beautifully captures the culinary spirit of renowned French chef Bernard Loiseau, celebrated for his talent in transforming simple ingredients into extraordinary dishes. Situated under the auspices of the French Embassy, the IFJ serves as a vibrant cultural hub dedicated to promoting French language and heritage. Its recently expanded building, designed by esteemed Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, reflects the charm of a French village, set against a backdrop of lush gardens that create an inviting ambiance for diners. Founded by Blanche Loiseau and her sister in June 2024, the bistro honors their family's rich culinary heritage. With a strong emphasis on simplicity, quality, and respect for ingredients, Loiseau de France aims to celebrate and elevate French culinary culture in the heart of the Kagurazaka French Quarter.

“VILLA KUJOYAMA" 日仏交流に焦点を当てたアーティスト・イン・レジデンス「ヴィラ九条山」

À Kyoto, dans le quartier de Higashiyama, un chemin escarpé mène, depuis la station de métro Keage, à un bâtiment ouvert combinant béton et verre, niché sur une montagne luxuriante. Entourée par une nature belle et tranquille et surplombant le paysage urbain de Kyoto, la Villa Kujoyama est une résidence d’artistes prestigieuse, qui a célébré en 2022 ses 30 ans d’existence. Located in Kyoto, Higashiyama, a steep climb from Keage Station leads to an open building combining concrete and glass nestled halfway up a lush mountain. Surrounded by beautiful, tranquil nature and overlooking the cityscape of Kyoto, Villa Kujoyama has been a prestigious artist residency since its opening, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. 京都、東山。蹴上駅から急な坂道を登っていくと、緑深い山の中腹にコンクリートとガラスを組み合わせた開放的な建物が姿をあらわします。美しく静かな自然に囲まれ、京都の街並みを一望できる「ヴィラ九条山」。2022 年に開館 30 周年を迎えた、伝統あるアーティスト・イン・レジデンスです。
