As the Paris Olympics 2024 are fast approaching, the Executive Director of the Olympic Games Christophe Dubi emphasises the event’s inclusivity and consistent push for international unity. Known as the most anticipated sports competition of the year, the Summer Olympics in Paris are expected to attract athletes and visitors from all over the world to the capital of France this year.
Beyond being the biggest sporting event of the time, the Games are likely to create a lasting legacy for Paris, showcasing the city’s iconic landmarks as venues for the events, as well as sharing the beauty of French culture with all who arrive to watch the competition. With accessibility as a guiding principle, Paris Olympics will welcome visitors to many spectacular events, while fostering an atmosphere of generosity, openness and cooperation. The CEO at Watches and Wonders Geneva Foundation (WWGF), Matthieu Humair, has taken his post only recently, in February 2023, while the world was still recovering from the pandemic. In the world of history and architecture, Professor Antoine Picon stands as a prominent figure in contemporary studies. Holding the prestigious title of G. Ware Travelstead Professor of the History of Architecture and Technology, as well as currently serving as the Director of Doctoral Programs at Harvard University, Picon passes on his all-encompassing expertise to his students, all the while continuing his own research to conceptualise the newest trends in architectural design. Some of Picon’s seminal works include French Architects and Engineers in the Age of Enlightenment (1988), Digital Culture in Architecture: An Introduction for the Design Profession (2010), Ornament: The Politics of Architecture and Subjectivity (2013), Smart Cities: A Spatialised Intelligence (2015), and The Materiality of Architecture (2021). In these books, the scholar delves into the “deep structures” of architectural evolution, discussing the complex interconnections between disciplines including architecture, design, and engineering. The achievements of his academic career have been recognised with multiple awards for writing, including the Medaille de la Ville de Paris and the Prix du Livre d'Architecture de la ville de Briey. He is also the Chairman of Fondation Le Corbusier, the organisation that manages all the properties and artworks left from one of the most influential architects in modern history and promotes his heritage to the public. Professor Antoine Picon shares his insights into the evolving landscape of architecture, the intrinsic meanings embedded within its structures, and reflects on his own journey with the focus on his role as chairman at Foundation Le Corbusier.

Communicating the INVISIBLE through MIWA KOMATSU's Eyes 祈りと死生観 目に見えないものを観る者に伝える小松美羽
The canvas bursts with vibrant colors and bizarre creatures that seem to almost spill out of the frame. Each creature stares out with large, glaring eyes. Though they might appear grotesque at first glance, there is a warmth to them that captivates and draws in the viewer. "Just as anyone can recognize a Picasso, anyone can recognize a Komatsu," people say about Miwa Komatsu's work. Komatsu first came into the media spotlight around 2009 and has garnered considerable attention since. Later, she began to create unique, one-of-a-kind paintings, leading to a bold and vivid touch. Her works have been consecrated at Izumo Grand Shrine in 2014, collected by the British Museum in 2015, and have fetched high prices at international auction houses, quickly elevating her acclaim. 極彩色の画面に、はみ出さんばかりに描かれた異形のものたち。どれも目が大きく見開かれ、こ ちらを睨みつけるようです。一見グロテスクにも見えますが、どこか温かみも感じられ、観るも のを惹きつける不思議な絵です。 「ピカソは誰が見てもピカソであるように、小松は誰が見ても小松だ」。小松美羽氏の作品はこ う評されます。小松氏は 2009 年頃からメディアに取り上げられ、注目を集めます。その後は一 点モノの作品を描きたいと絵画を手掛け、大胆で鮮やかなタッチが生まれました。作品は、2014 年に出雲大社に奉納、2015 年には大英博物館にコレクションされ、世界的オークションハウスで 高額落札されるなどその評価は急激に高まりました。

“VILLA KUJOYAMA" 日仏交流に焦点を当てた アーティスト・イン・レジデンス「ヴィラ九条山」
À Kyoto, dans le quartier de Higashiyama, un chemin escarpé mène, depuis la station de métro Keage, à un bâtiment ouvert combinant béton et verre, niché sur une montagne luxuriante. Entourée par une nature belle et tranquille et surplombant le paysage urbain de Kyoto, la Villa Kujoyama est une résidence d’artistes prestigieuse, qui a célébré en 2022 ses 30 ans d’existence. Located in Kyoto, Higashiyama, a steep climb from Keage Station leads to an open building combining concrete and glass nestled halfway up a lush mountain. Surrounded by beautiful, tranquil nature and overlooking the cityscape of Kyoto, Villa Kujoyama has been a prestigious artist residency since its opening, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2022. 京都、東山。蹴上駅から急な坂道を登っていくと、緑深い山の中腹にコンクリートとガ ラスを組み合わせた開放的な建物が姿をあらわします。美しく静かな自然に囲まれ、京 都の街並みを一望できる「ヴィラ九条山」。2022 年に開館 30 周年を迎えた、伝統あ るアーティスト・イン・レジデンスです。

SIMOSE ART MUSEUM In the midst of the magnificent natural scenery facing Hiroshima Bay in the Seto Inland Sea, Simose Art Museum, which opened in March 2023, is celebrating its first anniversary with an exhibition titled "Matazo Kayama - Seeking Innovative Styles." This exhibition features the works of Matazo Kayama (1927-2004), a Japanese painter who was active from the Showa to the Heisei period and had ties to Hiroshima. The exhibition runs until June 30th. In addition to the exhibition, the museum is part of a larger complex known as "Simose Art Garden Villa," which includes villas and a restaurant, enhancing the overall appeal of the venue. 瀬戸内海の広島湾に面した雄大な自然の中に佇む下瀬美術館。2023 年 3 月にオ ープンした同館の開館一周年記念として、昭和から平成にかけて活躍した広島と ゆかりのある日本画家、加山又造（1927―2004）の作品展「加山又造―革新 をもとめて」が開催されています（6 月 30 日まで）。作品展、そして美術館を 中心にヴィラやレストランなども併設する複合施設「SIMOSE ART GARDEN VILLA」の魅力を併せて伝えます。

JANOS STARKER Celebrates Timeless Influence Commemorating the legacy of one of the most influential figures in classical music, the Janos Starker 100th Anniversary Cello Festival that will take place this year in locations across Seoul and Tokyo to celebrate the lasting impact of the legendary Hungarian-American cellist. The event pays homage to Starker’s extraordinary contributions to the world of cello performance. The festival takes place under the close supervision of its distinguished artistic directors – Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi from Japan and Sung-Won Yang from Korea.
