JUST FOR L AUGHS

The Army of the Lord

A

friend was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed my friend by the hand and pulled him aside. The Pastor said to him, “You need to join the Army of the Lord!” My friend replied, “I’m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor.” Pastor questioned, “How come I don’t see you except at Christmas and Easter?” He whispered back, “I’m in the secret service.”

Faithful With Much

A

t a Wednesday evening church meeting a very wealthy man rose to give his testimony.

“I’m a millionaire,” he said, “and I attribute it all to the rich blessings of God in my life. I can still remember the turning point in my faith, like it was yesterday: I had just earned my first dollar and I went to a church meeting that night. The speaker was a missionary who talked about his work. I knew that I only had a dollar bill and had to either give it all to God’s work or nothing at all. So at that moment I decided to give my whole dollar to God. I believe that God blessed that decision, and that is why I am a rich man today.”

Someone Else

O

ur church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else. Someone’s passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person’s share of the work. Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone’s list, “Let Someone Else do it.” Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; “Someone Else can work with that group.”

Toluwalase Olawale

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference. Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? When you are asked to help this year, remember — we can’t depend on Someone Else anymore.

As he finished it was clear that everyone had been moved by this man’s story. But, as he took his seat, a little old lady sitting in the same pew leaned over and said: “Wonderful story! I dare you to do it again!”

Smart People

A

fellow computer programmer for a consulting group had designed some software for one of our largest accounts. He asked my help in putting it into operation.

At first, he handled most of the work. Eventually, though, he asked me to help with the last phase of the training. When I sat down with one woman and told her I would be showing her how to make changes to the files, she sighed with relief. “I’m so glad you’re teaching me instead of him.” Surprised, I said that my colleague was far more experienced than I was. “Yes,” she said, “but I feel much more comfortable with you. I get nervous around really smart people.

COVID-19: Faith Over Fear -

A Conversation With Christian Leaders

W

ith the global outbreak of Coronavirus/COVID-19 came a lot of conspiracy theories that fueled the fears of people. These theories gave rise to so much

pandemonium despite the fact that global governmental, community and spiritual leaders have demonstrated that they are prioritizing the situation and keeping the best interests of their communities in mind. These leaders, while taking precautionary measures, can model a response that is faithful, gracious and wise — trusting God in all things, remaining calm in a time of distress, extending compassion to those who are suffering, and praying for the healing of the world. This response of calmness and godly wisdom has become even more important as this pandemic has affected the world over, at every level. In light of this, it is important to hear the right words that will fuel our faith and strengthen us to face this challenging season with confidence. We thereby sought to converse with pastors and fathers of faith the world over, to share with us on how the pandemic has affected them, and what they believe God is telling us in this season.. »

What Is Wrong With

“

I don’t understand. What is wrong with us living together?” A truly confused Kemi asked as she sat in my office. “PK, Jibola and I have always been good together. We met in university in the UK and hit it off immediately. We could barely be apart; in fact, it started with spending the weekend with him, then one weekend turned to two and two to three and before I knew it there was no point packing an overnight bag. I began leaving stuff over at his place. Eventually, he asked me to move in since we planned to get married anyway- why not start practicing? PK when he gave me the keys to his apartment it was so romantic. To be honest it made sense. Why keep an apartment when I’m always at his? their jobs, and the economy in general. There are many reasons to be concerned but instead of going through this turbulent time with eyes shut. We decided to ask a few ladies their thoughts regarding any good that can be extracted from this trying time. So we asked “what are three life lessons you have learnt from the lockdown? And hopefully you will ask yourself—“what can I learn”? Here are their answers. Ifeoluwa Olumekun, a fashion designer replied:
