WHY WE LOVE HIM:
He’s 92, and he is still working for a better world, standing up for the arts, education, hunger relief, civil and human rights and more.
HARRY BELAFONTE ARTISTIC IMPACT AWARD
His life story is an inspiration: The son of immigrants who became one of the most influential and respected Americans of our time through his dignified and courageous work as a performer and activist.
actor and singer of many best-selling hit recordings including “The Banana Boat Song,” “Matilda” and “Jump in the Line.” He made his Broadway debut in John Murray Anderson’s Almanac in 1953 for which he won a Best Featured Actor in a Musical Tony Award. His Broadway credits include 3 for Tonight, Moonbirds, a special concert entitled Belafonte at the Palace, & Asinamali!
This legendary American singer, songwriter, actor and activist has brought (and continues to bring) endless joy and inspiration to billions and to all generations.
May we never forget his story, his courage, his contributions to our lives, and the impact he has had on the world.
He is beloved for his unparalleled career as an acclaimed Academy Award, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning producer,
this artistic genius and courageous humanitarian.
Thank you for being here tonight to help honor

WHY WE LOVE HER:
LILY TOMLIN
DISTINCTION IN THEATER AWARD
She is a living comedy legend making a name for herself on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In where she developed a host of characters that became part of the national culture.
She is an activist for the arts, women’s rights, gay rights, health care, the homeless, and the rights of animals, including elephants!
She was the first woman to appear solo in a Broadway show, Appearing Nitely in 1977.
Grace and Frankie, her current show on Netflix deals with issues that haven’t before been discussed on television including an older woman’s sexuality, starting a business, and starting over. The show gives people hope.
She’s been nominated for 73 various awards, with 43 wins among them. That includes two Tonys, a Grammy, six Emmys (plus a Daytime Emmy), the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a Kennedy Center Honor. She has been paving the way for female artists for decades. Before her, most female comics performed material based on marriage and children. Her act embraced the civil rights movement and the sexual revolution.
Thank you for being here tonight to help honor this comedy genius and legendary humanitarian.
