WELCOME TO OUR LIBRARIES Welcome to another year of fabulous programming at your library.

We are thrilled to partner with Museum Victoria, VicHealth and Artistic Merit, to bring you the Talking Difference Portable Studio – the studio brings you the opportunity to participate in a dialogue about cultural difference and diversity.

Our Autumn program includes a great line up of talented authors, musicians and producers including the fabulous Neil Murray, one of Australia's finest and most influential singer/songwrites.

The program includes plenty of eKnow How activities to help you build up your digital literacy and our children's and youth offer has a special focus on music and dance during the school holidays.

We look forward to celebrating Library & Information Week with you in May. Once again we will participate in National Simultaneous Story Time and I will be practising my presentation of Too Many Elephants in this House along with our other high-profile volunteer story time presenters.

If you're between 15 and 30 years old and have an interest in community leadership or multimedia production, you can be a Talking Difference Portable Studio Champion. WORLD POETRY DAY Once again we celebrate the achievements of local poets published in the Best Australian Poems by hosting an evening of poetry readings. TALKING DIFFERENCE PORTABLE STUDIO Talking Difference is an interactive media project created by Museum Victoria which incorporates a portable studio where you can participate in a dialogue about cultural difference and diversity.

It features a touch screen, HD camera and microphone, to allow you to view the questions, responses and ideas of others and respond with your own video, audio, text and drawing. The Talking Difference residency is a partnership between Geelong Regional Library Corporation, Museum Victoria, VicHealth and Artistic Merit. No booking required.

Kaz Paton, Meme McDonald and Rod Gear explain the story behind M~M2014, a biennial pilgrimage from mountain-top to river-mouth, creating a contemporary songline across Geelong.

SING FOR ME COUNTRYMAN: NEIL MURRAY One of Australia’s finest and most influential singer/songwriters, Neil Murray, is also a well-regarded novelist and poet.

First appearing as a founding member of the Warumpi Band, Neil was instrumental in propelling contemporary indigenous music into mainstream Australia over twenty years of performance and three albums. His work collectively describes an inner landscape to the heart of the nation – a journey which has done much to deepen and strengthen Australia’s contemporary musical heritage. Join Neil for a discussion about the creative writing process.

OPEN MIND LECTURE SERIES ANOREXIA NERVOSA: JUNE ALEXANDER At age 11, June developed anorexia nervosa, an illness that challenged and shaped her life. A love of words became a tool for survival and she became a senior writer, editor and newspaper columnist.

After recovering from her illness in 2006, June departed her long career in journalism to write books - combining life experience and professional skills to disseminate evidence-based research for health practitioners and mainstream readers. A mental health advocate, June serves on national and international mental health and advocacy organisations.

The Harp and the Ferryman traces the life of Peter Roberts as he discovers the power of music in comforting those with a terminal illness and the joy which music therapy can bring to the dying and their loved ones.

AUTHOR ENCOUNTERS Meet these authors and hear about their books and the writing process RAY WATSON: ST PATRICK’S DAY AT RISK When the Irish Orphans arrived in Geelong just before Christmas 1848, they found that they were charged with inflaming an already highly-explosive atmosphere of antagonism between Irish Catholics and English/Scottish Protestants. As a result of subsequent riots in Geelong in the early months of 1849, and in an effort to prevent future disturbances, The Advertiser proposed a ban be placed on future celebrations of St Patrick’s Day. Our Children's and Youth Services specialists will attend City of Greater Geelong's Children's Expo in the Steampacket Gardens to launch National Playgroup Week. Our staff will provide story sessions and a reading zone for parents and children. A Story time in the Geelong Botanic Gardens will form part of Playground in the Park during this special week for young children.
