COMMUNITY UPDATE
NEW CIVIC PRECINCT UNVEILED

THE CITY’S NEW CENTRAL OFFICE WILL CREATE A VIBRANT NEW CIVIC PRECINCT, ACCESSIBLE AND WELCOMING TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY. Due to be completed in 2022, our new Mercer Street office will bring together our central Geelong workforce from seven locations. We’re excited to unveil the design for this clever and creative new precinct and announce Quintessential Equity as our appointed development partners. Designed by COX Architecture, our new office will feature a beautiful and sustainable timber design. It will achieve the highest standards of sustainable design, with a 6 Star Green Star Design and As-Built Rating, as well as a 6 Star NABERS Energy Rating. This successfully contributes to our environmental aspirations as a UNESCO City of Design.

We’re investing $102.5 million into our new office and Civic Precinct, and our partnership with Quintessential Equity brings the total investment in our region to $200 million. The partnership will drive collaboration, reduce costs and future-proof our workplace needs, without an increase in costs to ratepayers. In fact, the project is expected to generate positive cash flow of $1.2 million per year. Construction of the Civic Precinct is expected to commence in mid-2020 and create almost 900 local jobs, with an estimated 43 per cent of construction costs sourced locally. The design of the new Civic Precinct includes a second commercial
