This is an experimental soundscape design, utilizing the building’s structural skeleton as an acoustical transmission media based on “Bone Conduction Technology”.

There are many mediums that can simulate the reverberant effects of indoor soundscapes. However, there is very little experimental data on the direct use of the building structure as a solid medium for the simulation of sound transmission. For such an experimental design, it was attempted to use AI techniques to learn the idiosyncrasies of the sound of bone conduction in different material mediums and forms to simulate the possible sound field effects in the architectural space.

DESIGN WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PSEUDOCODE Concept discription: An Ai application that can simulate the sound effect of any indoor sound �ield.

The interior space of the building will produce different indoor soundscape reverberation and echo, due to various reasons. Such as the volume of the room space, the shape of the interior structure, and building materials. People can identify their own echoes when the sound re�lected back from the wall exceeds 0.1 second. When the re�lected sound is shorter than 0.1 second, people cannot recognize their own echo, which is called reverberation. Different sound effects will be formed depending on spacial environmental conditions.

The design of reverberation sound effects will be very strictly designed in relation to the architectural occasions where the sound appears. For example, theaters, concert halls, and stadiums. However, in any space, there are special soundscape based on the environmental conditions of the space itself. Therefore, this AI application plans to simulate the sound effect in any occasion by capturing the depth and width information in the indoor space photos.

This AI application is designed to assist in the �ield of architectural design and interior design to better process and study indoor soundscape effect.-Convert all space photos with a uni�ied perspective into readable depth maps through the Photo to Depth website.

Conceptual Steps

a-1. Obtain the Depth map & Spectogram for subsequent analog distribution through network existence. a-2. The depth map of the corresponding space and the sound �ield effect spectrogram are in groups.

-Through mobile phone photography, obtain photos that do not use space, uniform height, and uniform lens depth.

-Convert all space photos with a uni�ied perspective into readable depth maps through the Photo to Depth website.

Feature Space Plot

A feature space plot is similar to a scattergram. It plots the frequency of occurrance of brightness value pairs in the two-dimensional feature space of de�ined by two images. The input images are usually two bands of multispectral imagery, but any two overlapping images with the same dimensions can be used. The higher the frequency of a value pair, the brighter it is represented in the feature space plot. Note that this tool provides a means of visualizing the relation between two raster images, which is often the necessary step before either correlation analysis or regression analysis. The tool is intended to work with images of an integer data type, or with images with a �loat data type that have a large enough range that they can be rounded to integer values in a meaningful way.（From internet) Plot features extracted from an image:

This tool performs a bivariate linear regression analysis on two input raster images. The �irst image is considered to be the independent variable while the second image is considered to be the dependent variable in the analysis. The tool will output a text report summarizing the regression model, an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and the signi�icance of the regression coef�icients. The regression residuals can optionally be output as a new raster image and the user can also optionally specify to standardize the residuals.

Note that the analysis performs a linear regression; two variables may be strongly related by a non-linear association (e.g. a power function curve) which will lead to an apparently weak �itting regression model. In fact, non-linear relations are very common among spatial variables, e.g. terrain indices such as slope and contributing area. In such cases, it is advisable that the input images are transformed prior to the analysis.(From internet)

This tool can be used to estimate the Pearson product-moment correlation coef�icient (r) between two images. The r-value is a measure of the linear association in the variation of the input variables (images, in this case). The coef�icient ranges from -1, indicated a perfect negative linear association, to 1, indicated a perfect positive linear association. An r-value of 0 indicates no correlation between the test variables.

Note that this index is a measure of the linear association; two variables may be strongly related by a non-linear association (e.g. a power function curve) which will lead to an apparent weak association based on the Pearson coef�icient. In fact, non-linear associations are very common among spatial variables, e.g. terrain indices such as slope and contributing area. In such cases, it is advisable that the input images are transformed prior to the estimation of the Pearson coef�icient, or that an alternative, non-parametric statistic be used, e.g. the Spearman rank correlation coef�icient.

The user must specify the names of two or more input images. All input images must share the same grid, as the coef�icient requires a comparison of a pair of images on a grid-cell-by-grid-cell basis. If more than two image names are selected, the correlation coef�icient will be calculated for each pair of images and reported in the text output as a correlation matrix. Caution must be exercised when attempted to estimate the signi�icance of a correlation coef�icient derived from image data. The remarkably high N-value (essentially the number of pixels in the image pair) means that even small correlation coef�icients can be found to be statistically signi�icant, despite being practically insigni�icant.

By iterating the shape and length design of joint units, the overall building structure is determined to be a triangular structure with a protruding middle. In order to avoid the environmental noise of the site and achieve the best indoor sound field effect, the combination of the overall building and the Building Shell forms a single building unit for the cavity indoor area and the conductive linear area.

The structure of the building uses steel as the sound transmission medium to connect the indoor sound structure of the entire building. Because of the specific shape of the structure, the building has cavities of different sizes. The spacing between the walls of the chamber reflects sound so that each room has a different reverberation effect.

The entire building complex is connected by three building units of different sizes, spanning the river, serving as a building and also as a bridge connecting the two banks. According to the conduction characteristics of sound waves, the linear connection between the three buildings can transmit sound waves, so that the sound information at both ends of the entire building can be transmitted to each other.

The entire building serves as a physical medium and acoustic cavity condition for sound propagation. The design uses a variety of different materials to help conduct or hinder the transmission for different structures. For the facade structure connecting three individual buildings, steel can assist in achieving high-quality sound transmission over the longest distance. Steel will also be used to conduct sound within the building.

In response to LAX’s ongoing LINXS construction project, we transformed and redesigned the CTA West station space, located at the Automated People Mover (APM) terminal end. Try to create more interesting walking experiences for tourists taking the metro.

Volume pieces support and interlock each other, there are track communication channels between the volumes.

I. MARBLE TRACK MODEL

The marble falls freely, the design of different devices changes the direction and speed of the marble movement.

The detail groups design as the interpolation structure, with the purpose of emphasizing the track protruding from the volume pieces.

The pedestrian passage design has a targeted interactive relationship between indoors and outdoors. Allowing visitors to feel the different light and shadow environments interspersed in the architectural space while walking.

Channel design for more walking possibilities

Combine and optimize the channels designed for each Terminal into a continuous whole. The pedestrian space is a continuous space that combines multiple exhibition halls and passages, allowing visitors to enjoy the space while walking and visiting.

The purpose is to allow continuous architectural spaces to capture different levels of natural light in the indoor light environment. Complete model & Architectural details

During the design and learning process of the three models, we tried to create as many unexpected relationships between the track design and space as possible. More often than not, it is not pursued to completely wrap the track, but to deliberately expose the track or passage in the gaps between the buildings during specific periods, allowing people walking in it to think about the spatial relationship between themselves and the entire building.

Location: Taylor Yard, Los Angeles Partner with: Jimmy Xu Instructor: Dwayne Oyler Site Area: 112,000 sqft Project Time: 2022 Fall

Taylar Yard, as a sedimentary land in the middle of the Los Angeles River, suffers from land contamination. This project will develop this unused land as a biological laboratory to study the toxic native organisms and chemical poisoning of Los Angeles.

Morphological Deconstruction Logic

Regarding form structure and design, we first studied several photography works of Bernd & Hilla Becher, and conducted linguistic deconstruction of large factories such as boilers and tripods.

The basic unit structure is obtained by the deconstruction process of the factory language. According to different spatial requirements, spatial deformation of cantilevers, slits, and extensions is carried out to obtain the main volume block.

In order to create interstitial spaces between blocks, the spatial relationship and distance between units are adjusted in different ways to achieve different overall spatial states.

Morphological Evolution and Volume Formation

The overall expression language of the building borrows industrial elements to form a removable basic unit. There is a chimeric relationship between the units. Through the displacement, deformation and rotation of the units, multiple units can be combined to form a closed and complete spatial whole.

Incomplete Opening Process of Structure

To reform spatial relationships between the volumes, the different structural states and emotions will be produced when the overall structure undergoes different degrees of open deformation. We wanted to consider the gaps between the volumes as an architectural function by studying the openness of the structure. For the final building we chose to keep 20% of the overall form open.

Building Internal Communication System

In the main body of the building, connecting passages are designed between different blocks that are diametrically opposed to the overall exterior heroic style. Focus on softness, curves, and light transmission. This design is inspired by the extension of parasitic fungi in the parasitic body and the connection characteristics of various parts. The design purpose of the super-long curve is to achieve the connection of the super-long space and add different light-sensing spaces to the interior of the building space.

In the internal structure of the building, soft curved spaces serve as connecting channels for each building. The sunroom space used for breeding in the site is also connected by linear corridors. Except for the independent Sunroom in the center of the square, all main spaces can be walked through the indoor connecting passages.

Form design and Emotional Expression

For the film school project, I hope to express the rich emotions of this occasion through the architectural form design while meeting the functional conditions. By disassembling artist Thumbs1’s graphic art curves and reconstructing them, a tensile volume unit is obtained. These units provide multiple emotional messages in shaping the architecture.

I use the spherical curved surface of special design as the wall to distinguish different rooms, because there is no completely vertical wall in the whole building. The choice of geometric spheres in the interior without the use of irregular surfaces such as facades is intended to distinguish the relationship between the exterior and the use of curves in different styles.

Material Chunks and Details

The overall exterior facade of the building is made of GRP high-strength material to present a continuous curved surface effect.

Considering geographical and climatic factors, 40% of the top area of the building is attached with specially treated Solar Panels, allowing the building to utilize solar energy while still showing a white appearance. At the same time, considering the sustainability of the building in terms of carbon emissions, we chose to use wood instead of metal materials to make the space frame system.

Combined with Ar construction techniques, a variety of practical materials are combined to create detachable modular furniture.Taking sustainable design as the basic concept, recycled clay and metal are used as the main production media of furniture. Utilize the modular design concept to make home design a sustainable design that can be changed, disassembled, and reassembled. In the event that some parts are damaged, replacement parts can be easily made for repair due to the advantages of modular design.

This project adds a multi-functional handrail to the Riverside Museum at Glasgow by Zaha Hadid Architects. Extruded with a terrain-like profile on its horizon, the natural sunlight shines into the interior at the start and the end. Adding more dynamic aperture rhythm while maintaining the flow of the existing building, this detail aims to fuse the handrail, column and aperture in one design. Furthermore, it creates a subtle detail that enhances the interior lighting performance.

The physical model making process of this project attempts to combine more new technologies to create effects that are difficult to achieve. The process of using CNC technology to process plaster and Robot arm drawings saves a lot of work time while ensuring quality. After discovering that there are many cases around us that lead to serious diseases because potential spinal problems are not taken seriously, targeted research has found that most early-stage spinal diseases can be restored through active intervention. Through interactive design, I hope to design therapeutic instruments that remind and promote patients’ voluntary muscle control.

Social Context of Adolescent Scoliosis

Adolescent scoliosis, a spinal deformity characterized by a sideways curvature of the spine, typically develops during puberty. The causes and treatment approaches for adolescent scoliosis are varied.

The treatment for adolescent scoliosis is highly individualized, depending on the curve’s severity, the child’s age, and growth patterns.

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS): AIS is the most prevalent type of scoliosis among adolescents, with an occurrence rate ranging from 0.47 to 5.2%​​​​. It accounts for approximately 90% of cases of idiopathic scoliosis in adolescents, underscoring its significance in this age group.

Gender Differences: The prevalence of small curvatures in scoliosis is thought to be equal among girls and boys.

Treatment: Yes

Zhang is a friend of mine. During the three years I have known her, she suffered from a very serious cervical spondylosis. Because of the pain in her cervical spine, she had a long-term examination and treatment plan. At the same time, she also found a physical therapist to do rehabilitation training for her.

Mr. Yu is a professional osteopath I know. I had him check my spine for disease. He accepts conditions of all ages, but adolescent scoliosis, which he says affects the largest number of patients, is also the easiest to treat.

Among his patients, most adolescent scoliosis patients did not develop very severe spinal deformities. In the early stages of treatment, he guides patients to more autonomously control their sitting posture and body posture to prevent the disease from worsening. As for the design to help with scoliosis recovery, he believes that force-imposed treatment is dangerous and ineffective. A more efficient treatment method is to remind patients to pay attention to muscle contraction and control at special moments. It is very important for patients to develop autonomous control.

Through interviews with people around me and professional osteopaths, I learned that not a large number of patients have treatment experience, and not all patients have treatment needs. For minor illnesses, arousing the patient’s awareness of voluntary muscle control is safer and more effective than most treatments. But patients need professional guidance on how to properly control their muscles.

Model Logic & Material Refrence

After learning that most orthodontic brace materials will use 3D printing technology to customize molds for patients, I hope to design an instrument that can prompt patients to control their muscles independently by combining 3D printing technology with the tension of medical tape. Mainly for patients with early-stage spinal problems.

For the six major muscle groups of the complete spine, modular units with different directions and tensions are designed. The modular unit will be customized with special sizes and tensions for different patients to help restore specific spinal deformity problems. The three main units in the middle will determine the shape of the spine and fix it. The surrounding muscle units are transferred with a special pulling force to prompt the patient’s awareness of voluntary muscle control.

Jack, the model in the interview, has a deformation problem in the middle of his spine. The model attempts to focus on reminding Jack’s midsection muscles through the two white extra tension units in the middle.
