60 YEARS
Engage. Connect. Inspire. The frost and snow are slowly giving way to the sights and sounds of spring and summer, and that means it's a perfect time to tell our patrons about the exciting events that the Geauga County Public Library has planned for this upcoming season.
First, with the end of the school year in sight, Geauga County Public Library is preparing for our annual summer reading program for all our patrons. The goal behind our hosting of the summer reading program is important to the members of our community; through this program and its activity and reading challenges, we aim to prepare young children for lifelong learning by helping them develop early language and reading skills, motivate teens to read, discuss, and most importantly, enjoy reading, and encourage adults to maintain their love for pleasure reading. As each year of summer reading has a specific topic, we are happy to announce that this year’s theme is ”All Together Now,” a theme focused on kindness, friendship, and unity. And what better way is there to kickstart 2023’s summer reading program by joining us at the Geauga County Fair Grounds (14373 N Cheshire St, Burton, OH 44021) on June 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., where we can connect, engage, and inspire one another to tackle this year’s challenge!
Secondly, Geauga County Public Library has planned a series of events throughout 2023 that celebrate the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Geauga County Public Library system we all know and love. While there have been various libraries spread throughout Geauga County since 1848, it was not until July 6th, 1963, that the county-wide system was established through the consolidation of independent libraries in Bainbridge, Chardon, Chesterland, and Middlefield. Since that day, Geauga County Public Library has become a staple to Geauga County as a whole, as well as to the smaller communities each one of our six libraries serve. In order to celebrate this historic achievement for both Geauga County and Geauga County Public Library in the best way possible, we are hosting a fun-filled anniversary party at Veterans Legacy Woods (14085 Ravenna Rd., Newbury Township, OH 44065) on August 12th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., complete with family-friendly entertainment, games, crafts, and much more! Keep on the lookout on our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages, as well as for our digital Lines & Links Lite, for more information about the event!
This summer is sure to be an exciting one, and I and the rest of the Geauga County Public Library staff cannot wait to spend it with you!
